Symptom Checker

Step 4: Read and complete the decision guide to learn more about your symptoms.

Head Injury in Children

Keep a close eye on your child for 24 to 48 hours after the injury.

Your child may be sleepy after a head injury. You can let your child sleep but make sure he or she can be easily awakened every few hours.

It is normal to have a headache for a day or two, but call your doctor if the headache starts getting worse instead of better.

Vomiting once or twice after a head injury is common. Call your doctor if your child vomits more than that, or starts vomiting for no apparent reason several hours after the injury.

Call your doctor if you notice any change in your child's personality, or if you notice changes in the way he is moving or talking.
