Symptom Checker

Step 4: Read and complete the decision guide to learn more about your symptoms.

Dry Skin

You may have an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism).

You can find out whether you have hypothyroidism with a simple blood test that determines the levels of a hormone called TSH. Contact your doctor's office to find out whether you have had a TSH test in the past.

Even if you do have an underactive thyroid, there may also be other reasons for your dry skin.
