Birth Control (Contraception) for Women

When the time is right, you will have multiple options for very effective pregnancy protection. Remember that whatever you choose for pregnancy protection, you still want to use condoms if starting a new relationship.

One more question to determine if you should avoid estrogen-containing birth control pills, patches or vaginal rings. Also if you currently smoke and are age 35 or older, you have a higher risk of clots and strokes with estrogen.

Women should generally avoid estrogen-containing contraceptives if they

-- Have high blood pressure that is difficult to control

-- Have complex migraine (migraine with neurological symptoms)

-- Smoke and are 35 years of age or older

Do any of the above apply to you?

Yes
