Serious side effects

Along with its needed effects, hydroxyamphetamine/tropicamide ophthalmic may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking hydroxyamphetamine / tropicamide ophthalmic:

Rare side effects

• blurred vision
• chest pain or discomfort
• confusion
• dizziness
• faintness or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
• fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
• nausea
• pain or discomfort in arms, jaw, back or neck
• shortness of breath
• sudden sweating
• unusual tiredness or weakness

Frequency of side effects not known

• agitation
• anxiety
• cold, clammy, pale skin
• cough
• difficulty swallowing
• eye pain
• failure to recognize people
• hives
• irritability
• itching
• hyperactivity or restlessness
• loss of consciousness
• loss of vision
• mood or mental changes
• nervousness
• nightmares
• pounding heartbeat or pulse
• puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
• seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
• skin rash
• tightness in chest
• tremor
• unusual behavior such as disorientation to time or place
• unusual feeling of excitement
• wheezing

Symptoms of Overdose

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking hydroxyamphetamine / tropicamide ophthalmic:

• bloating
• blurred vision
• chest pain or discomfort
• diarrhea
• dizziness
• enlarged pupils
• fainting
• fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
• gas
• headache
• heartburn
• indigestion
• lightheadedness
• loss of appetite
• nausea
• nervousness
• pounding in the ears
• pounding or rapid pulse
• stomach pain
• sweating
• vomiting

Other side effects

Some side effects of hydroxyamphetamine / tropicamide ophthalmic may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.

• difficulty seeing at night
• dry mouth
• headache
• increased sensitivity of eyes to sunlight
• muscle stiffness or tightness
• temporary stinging in the eyes

General adverse events

Transient stinging, dry mouth, blurred vision, photophobia with or without corneal staining, tachycardia, headache, allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, pallor, and muscle rigidity have been reported following use of tropicamide and/or hydroxyamphetamine hydrobromide and thus may occur with the combination product. Rare but serious cardiovascular events (including death due to myocardial infarction, ventricular fibrillation, and significant hypotensive episodes) have occurred shortly following instillation of this drug.^[Ref]
