Kesimpta (ofatumumab) is injected under the skin (subcutaneously). It should be injected into the stomach area, thigh, or outer upper arm. Kesimpta is available as prefilled syringes and prefilled Sensoready pens.

While Kesimpta may be injected at home, the first injection should be given under the supervision of a healthcare professional. You should also receive training on how to inject Kesimpta safely and properly.

What are the best Kesimpta injection sites?

According to the manufacturer, Kesimpta should be injected under the skin on the lower part of the stomach (except 2 inches around the belly button), front of the thigh, or outer upper arm.

If you are giving the injection to yourself, it is recommended to use the stomach or thigh as the place of injection. If someone else is giving you your Kesimpta injection, they can also inject your dose into the outer upper arm. This site is hard to reach on your own.

Do not inject Kesimpta into areas of skin that are tender, red, or bruised. Also, avoid areas of skin that have moles, stretch marks, or scars.

How is Kesimpta administered?

A healthcare professional will show you how to inject Kesimpta Here are a few tips on how to inject your dose:

  1. Take Kesimpta out of the refrigerator and let it reach room temperature (15 to 30 minutes).
  2. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  3. Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe and allow it to dry.
  4. If using the Sensoready pen, it must be used within 5 minutes of removing the cap. Hold the pen at 90 degrees to the injection site. You will hear a click to signal the injection starting, and a second click to signal the injection is almost done. Continue holding the pen against your skin until the green indicator fills the window and is not moving anymore.
  5. If using the prefilled syringe, gently pinch your skin at the injection site and insert the needle at a 45 degree angle. Push the plunger in all the way and hold the syringe in place for 5 seconds.
  6. Remove the needle or pen and place it into a sharps disposal container.

This is not all of the information you need to know to inject Kesimpta safely. Follow your prescriber’s directions carefully about how and when you should inject Kesimpta. Read the Instructions for Use that came with your medication, and contact your prescriber or pharmacist if you have any questions.
