Camyzos' mechanism of action (how it works) is by binding to a protein called myosin in the heart muscle and releasing another protein called actin. This action allows the heart to relax and more easily fill with blood which can help improve shortness of breath, tiredness and allow you to be more active.

Camzyos (mavacamten) is an oral prescription medicine called a cardiac myosin inhibitor. It is approved by the FDA to treat symptomatic New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II-III obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in adults.

What is symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?

Normally, the heart pumps blood to tissues in your body as the heart muscle contracts (“squeeze”) and releases (“lets go”). Heart muscles contract when two proteins called myosin and actin join together, and then relax when myosin and actin move apart.

In obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), the heart has trouble relaxing because myosin and actin form too many connections in the heart muscle. The walls of the heart contract too much, making them stiff and not able to relax.

Camzyos can help with relaxing your heart muscles. When Camzyos binds to myosin, actin is released which allows the heart muscle to more easily relax and fill with blood to improve your symptoms.

Symptoms of obstructive HCM include:

  • shortness of breath
  • rapid heartbeat
  • feeling dizzy or light-headed
  • chest pain
  • fainting
  • tiredness and fatigue

Is Camyzyos taken every day?

Yes, Camzyos is an oral capsule that is taken once a day by mouth. You can take it with or without food. You should swallow the capsule whole. Do not break, open, crush, split or chew the capsule.

Camzyos comes as a capsule in 4 different strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 15mg. Your doctor will determine your dose.

Take your medicine and dose exactly as directed by your doctor. In some cases, your doctor may change your dose, or temporarily or permanently stop your medicine if you have certain side effects. Do not change your dose without talking to your healthcare provider first.

You must have an echocardiogram before you take your first dose and during your treatment. An echocardiogram is a common, low-risk and painless ultrasound test that takes a picture of your heart while it is beating. This test will help your healthcare provider understand how your heart responds to treatment.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible and take your next dose at your regularly scheduled time the next day. Do not take 2 doses on the same day to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much of this medicine or overdose, call your healthcare provider or emergency services (911 in the U.S.), or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
