Yes, Omnitrope (somatropin) needs to be refrigerated between 36°F and 46°F (2°C and 8°C). Before using it, it will last in the refrigerator until the expiration date on the package. Once you use Omnitrope, keep it in the refrigerator.

Depending on which formulation you are using, it will last for 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator after your first injection.

  • 5 mg/1.5 mL cartridge: refrigerate up to 28 days
  • 10 mg/1/5 mL cartridge: refrigerate up to 28 days
  • 5.8 mg per vial: refrigerate up to 21 days

Throw away any unused medication after the recommended amount of days once you open it.

How long can Omnitrope stay out of the fridge?

Before giving yourself an injection using the pen and cartridges, take a cartridge out of the refrigerator and let it warm up to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This will help make the injection less uncomfortable for you.

If you have left Omnitrope out of the refrigerator for more than 30 minutes, it might not work as well. Seek guidance from your healthcare provider.

Key Takeaways

  • Omnitrope is sensitive to both temperature and light and must be kept in the refrigerator.
  • Always store it in its original carton whenever possible.
  • If there is any question about if the medication is still good, contact your healthcare provider.
