How do you take Solosec?
Solosec (secnidazole) is a nitroimidazole antimicrobial used to treat bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis in female patients 12 years of age and older. Solosec comes in the form of oral granules, which are sealed in a small packet.
Each packet contains a single dose of Solosec 2g and one entire packet of Solosec should be taken at a time. Solosec may be taken before, after or during a meal.
To prepare and take Solosec:
- Fold and tear the corner of the Solosec packet to open.
- Sprinkle all of the Solosec oral granules onto applesauce, yoghurt or pudding. Stir the granules to mix them in. The granules will not dissolve.
- Swallow all of the mixture straight away (within a maximum of 30 minutes) without chewing or crunching the granules.
- After taking Solosec you can drink a glass of water to help wash the mixture down, but do not dissolve the medicine in water or another liquid. Dinking alcohol should be avoided during treatment and for 48 hours after a dose is taken.
