Drug Interactions between Talwin Nx and tramadol
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Talwin Nx (naloxone/pentazocine)
- tramadol
Interactions between your drugs
pentazocine traMADol
Applies to: Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine) and tramadol
Ask your doctor before using pentazocine together with traMADol. This can increase the seizure risk if you are taking other opioids. Contact your doctor if you experience extreme drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme weakness, cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, fainting, or seizures. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naloxone pentazocine
Applies to: Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine) and Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine)
The following interaction applies only if you are using naloxone in an injectable formulation:
naloxone can reverse the effects of pentazocine. If you are a physically dependent patient you may experience withdrawal symptoms. This can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, aches, fever, runny nose, sneezing, nervousness, irritability, shivering, and abdominal cramps. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naloxone traMADol
Applies to: Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine) and tramadol
Using naloxone together with traMADol may block the effects of traMADol and make the medication less effective in treating your condition. If you have been receiving traMADol for a while (for example, a week or longer), naloxone can also precipitate withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
pentazocine food
Applies to: Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine)
Smoking tobacco may reduce the blood levels and effects of pentazocine. Contact your doctor if pentazocine is not adequately controlling your symptoms.
traMADol food
Applies to: tramadol
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of traMADol such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with traMADol. Do not use more than the recommended dose of traMADol, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
pentazocine food
Applies to: Talwin Nx (naloxone / pentazocine)
Do not use alcohol or medications that contain alcohol while you are receiving treatment with pentazocine. This may increase nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, and impairment in thinking and judgment. In severe cases, low blood pressure, respiratory distress, fainting, coma, or even death may occur. With certain long-acting formulations of narcotic pain medication, consumption of alcohol may also cause rapid release of the drug, resulting in high blood levels that may be potentially lethal. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. Do not use more than the recommended dose of pentazocine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.
