Interactions between your drugs
levodopa entacapone
Applies to: Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa) and Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa)
The side effects of levodopa may be increased when it is used in combination with entacapone. You may need a dose adjustment if you have been taking levodopa and are starting or stopping treatment with entacapone. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or if you experience movement difficulties, increased drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, and/or fainting. Avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
levodopa trabectedin
Applies to: Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa) and trabectedin
Using levodopa together with trabectedin may increase the risk of nerve damage, which is a potential side effect of both medications. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Let your doctor know if you develop weakness, numbness, pain, burning, or tingling in your hands, feet, or limbs. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
levodopa food
Applies to: Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of levodopa such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with levodopa. You may experience reduced effectiveness of levodopa in the presence of foods or enteral (tube) feedings with a high protein content. This may make the symptoms of Parkinson's disease worse. Talk with your doctor or nutrition counselor about the best foods to eat while you are taking this medication. Contact your doctor if your condition changes.
entacapone food
Applies to: Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of entacapone such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with entacapone. Do not use more than the recommended dose of entacapone, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
trabectedin food
Applies to: trabectedin
Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with trabectedin, as it may increase blood levels of the medication. This can increase the risk and/or severity of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, liver problems, heart muscle problems (e.G., heart failure), and impaired bone marrow function resulting in low numbers of different types of blood cells. You may be more likely to develop anemia, bleeding problems, and infections because of low blood cell counts. In addition, your may have an increased risk of developing a rare but serious condition called rhabdomyolysis that involves the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. In some cases, rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage and even death. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Let your doctor know immediately if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness during treatment with trabectedin, especially if these symptoms are accompanied by fever or dark colored urine. You should also seek immediate medical attention if you develop fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. Avoid excessive use of alcohol, as it may add to the effects of trabectedin on the liver. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
levodopa food
Applies to: Stalevo 75 (carbidopa / entacapone / levodopa)
Levodopa and multivitamin with minerals should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain iron may interfere with the absorption of levodopa and reduce its effectiveness. You should separate the dosing of these medications by as much as possible. Contact your doctor if your Parkinson symptoms worsen. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
