Drug Interactions between furosemide and Symbicort
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- furosemide
- Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol)
Interactions between your drugs
furosemide budesonide
Applies to: furosemide and Symbicort (budesonide / formoterol)
Before using furosemide, tell your doctor if you also use budesonide. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests in order to safely take both medications together. This combination may cause muscle pains or cramps, loss of appetite, weakness, dizziness, or confusion. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
furosemide formoterol
Applies to: furosemide and Symbicort (budesonide / formoterol)
Using furosemide together with formoterol may increase the risk of developing hypokalemia, or low blood potassium. In severe cases, hypokalemia can lead to muscle weakness, paralysis, breathing and swallowing difficulties (due to muscle paralysis), and irregular heart rhythm. The risk may exist even when formoterol or similar medications are given by oral inhalation directly into the lungs, and more so if these products are overused. Do not exceed the dose and frequency of use recommended on the product label or prescribed by your doctor. Let your doctor know if you experience nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal cramping, confusion, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, muscle weakness, muscle cramps, numbness, tingling, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, and/or swelling in the legs or feet, as these may be symptoms of hypokalemia. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
budesonide formoterol
Applies to: Symbicort (budesonide / formoterol) and Symbicort (budesonide / formoterol)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
Drug and food interactions
budesonide food
Applies to: Symbicort (budesonide / formoterol)
You should avoid the regular consumption of large amounts of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking budesonide. Grapefruit can raise the levels of budesonide in your body and lead to increased side effects. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.
furosemide food
Applies to: furosemide
Furosemide and ethanol (alcohol) may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
