Drug Interactions between didanosine and Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation)

Food decreases the levels of didanosine in your body. Take didanosine on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule (Videx EC). Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of pheniramine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with pheniramine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of pheniramine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Both phenylephrine and caffeine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects.
