Drug Interactions between Cal-GLU and ceftriaxone
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Cal-GLU (calcium gluconate)
- ceftriaxone
Interactions between your drugs
cefTRIAXone calcium gluconate
Applies to: ceftriaxone and Cal-GLU (calcium gluconate)
CefTRIAXone and calcium can form crystals when they are mixed together in solution or in the bloodstream. Life-threatening and fatal reactions have occurred when the crystals accumulated in the lung and kidneys of newborns. If you (or your child) require treatment with cefTRIAXone and calcium gluconate by injection directly into the veins, your healthcare providers can help prevent this interaction by taking a few simple precautions. You should tell your healthcare providers about all the medications that have been given to you (or your child) in the past two days, especially those given through the veins. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your healthcare providers.
Drug and food interactions
calcium gluconate food
Applies to: Cal-GLU (calcium gluconate)
Calcium absorption may be increased by taking it with food. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption. Calcium may be taken with food to increase absorption. Consider spacing calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
