- atazanavir/cobicistat
- medroxyprogesterone
Interactions between your drugs
medroxyPROGESTERone atazanavir
Applies to: medroxyprogesterone and atazanavir / cobicistat
Ask your doctor before using medroxyPROGESTERone together with atazanavir. Atazanavir may affect the safety and decrease the birth control effectiveness of medroxyPROGESTERone. Women who use birth control pills or birth control patches should choose a different kind of contraception during atazanavir therapy. Using medroxyPROGESTERone together with atazanavir can also increase the blood levels or add to the side effects of medroxyPROGESTERone. This can cause sudden headache, confusion, pain behind the eyes, problems with vision, speech, or balance, nausea, and stomach pain. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
medroxyPROGESTERone cobicistat
Applies to: medroxyprogesterone and atazanavir / cobicistat
Talk to your doctor before using cobicistat together with medroxyPROGESTERone. Combining these medications may alter the effects of some hormone-based medications. Birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy may become less effective. Also, the risk of side effects such as insulin resistance, lipid disorders, acne, and blood clots may increase. Talk to your gynecologist or other healthcare professional for help in selecting effective methods of birth control that work best for you. If you take hormone replacement for menopause, you should contact your doctor if you experience increased frequency or worsening of your symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, or abnormal bleeding. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
atazanavir food
Applies to: atazanavir / cobicistat
Food can enhance the levels of atazanavir in your body. To ensure maximal oral absorption, atazanavir should be administered with or immediately after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication.
