Moderate Potential Hazard, Low plausibility. Applicable conditions: Hyponatremia, Electrolyte Abnormalities

Electrolyte abnormalities of hyponatremia and hypochloremia have resulted from prolonged use of silver nitrate or application of wet dressings to extensive dermal areas. Sodium and chloride leech into dressings. Therapy with silver nitrate dressings should be applied cautiously in patients with or predisposition to electrolyte abnormalities. Clinical monitoring of electrolytes is recommended and electrolyte replacement as indicted.
