DMSA Disease Interactions
There is 1 disease interaction with DMSA (dimercaptosuccinic acid).
Moderate
Dimercaptosuccinic acid (applies to DMSA) renal dysfunction
Moderate Potential Hazard, High plausibility.
Technetium Tc 99m DMSA is substantially eliminated by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions to this drug may be greater in patients with impaired renal function. Caution is advised when used in these patients. In addition, some patients with advanced renal failure may exhibit poor renal intake of the drug. It has been reported that satisfactory images may be obtained in some of these patients by delaying imaging for up to 24 hours.
