"Don’t bother with Zilretta. I have been getting conventional cortisone knee injections for several years - tried Zilretta in an attempt to reduce the frequency of injections. Three weeks out and minimal relief compared to conventional cortisone. Now I have to wait several months before I can get regular cortisone again."

"First shot worked great. Second shot, I had severe pain and a burning sensation on the side of my knee that faces the other knee. This pain lasted 4 days and about drove me out of my mind. I kept thinking he injected into a nerve or something that shouldn't have been stabbed. It was horribly painful, and I'm really good at handling pain, but I was ready to have this leg amputated on day 3. Finally, on day 5, it let up. The injection spot stayed red and swollen for two weeks. Now the shot is helping. I'm scheduled to get a third injection in December. If it reacts like the second one, I'll know I'm allergic. However, it seems weird I had no reaction to the first shot, then 7 months later, the second shot nearly drove me insane. Made my whole body hurt, especially my back. Never could get my doctor's office back on the phone. Now 3 weeks later, and calling twice a week and leaving messages, they don't return phone calls."

"I fell at work more than 2 years ago, broke my patella. After 3 surgeries, the last one seemed to have worked well, my pain level was down to a 2-3. My doctor suggested getting this injection to get me lasting pain relief going forward. I wish now I hadn't. My pain level increased to at least a 5 within a week, sometimes it hurts as much as a 6-7. I have pain where I didn't have pain before. Calling my doctor this week. My surgery was at the end of April, the injection was done at 4 weeks. I am now 3 weeks past the injection date, and it has only worsened my knee pain. I am so over this knee pain."

"The first 9 days were great, no pain, but after that it has been getting worse to the point of being totally miserable. It has been over a week with bad pain in my inner knee area. No OTC meds, icing, or heating helps it."

"I got the injection into my knee 10 days ago. Initially, I had significant burning pain and pressure in my knee for 3 days. This has resolved, and now I have severe hamstring tendinitis with difficulty doing stairs and walking up hills. I’m sorry I even got this injection, my discomfort is so much worse than I was at baseline."

"Received other injections with no relief. Received this injection a week ago, and joints and muscles are more sore than before the shot. I suppose it's normal? Will wait to see, however, I'm not happy."

"Received drug Zilretta about 15 days ago. It was fabulous these last 12 days! Climbed steps, played with 8 yr old grandson in yard, just generally moved beautifully! Gradually, the pain has returned. Don’t know why, don’t know if I did something wrong, but those first 12-14 days were awesome! Glad it helps others."

"PLEASE, PLEASE do some research before getting this injection. I just had it today, 7/28/21, and it was a nightmare. It was a really painful injection, then, when I got off the exam table, I could barely walk. I told the nurse that I couldn't walk to my car, and she said to sit in the waiting area for a few minutes. Within 2 to 3 minutes, I started feeling really ill, so I called them for help. I broke out in a dripping sweat, hyperventilated, vomited a lot, and had diarrhea all over myself. They said they didn't think it was an allergic reaction but suggested that I might want to go to the ER and get checked out. I did not want to go to the ER due to the COVID numbers being up, and I would sit there for hours. It's been several hours now, and I still feel dizzy and queasy. I will call 911 if I have to. This is the last Zilretta injection that I will ever take. I am taking Augmentin but had not had one this morning. I told them this before the injection."

"I have been suffering from severe ITB pain following a hip revision 6 months ago. My doctor ordered an MRI, which revealed mild arthritis and a partial meniscus tear in my knee on the same leg. I had no knee pain whatsoever, only IT band. He suggested Zilretta. My ITB is so irritated I can barely walk. It's also affected my back, hamstrings, and tendons. It's been 6 weeks of misery on top of what was already bad. Big mistake."

"Issue is osteoarthritis of the knee and a partially torn meniscus. Had GenVisc850 injections (5 over 5 weeks as required), but still had knee pain, so doctor prescribed a Zilretta injection. Within 1 day, my knee pain became a lot worse, then for about 2 weeks the pain subsided some, so I thought the Zilretta was finally working. The relief was short-term and the pain increased to the point where it was difficult to put any weight on my leg. Now, 6 weeks after the Zilretta injection, I am scheduled for surgery."

"I have bone-on-bone and bone spurs, and it did not work for me. Yet it’s been 10 days, and it’s really swollen, and now there’s crunching. It was very painful afterwards, and it didn’t hurt at all getting it, but now awful pain and a horrendous runny nose. I am definitely regretting getting it."

"I have partial replacements in both knees, and they are both bad again. I got the Zilretta shot a week ago and had great pain relief at first, but on day 7, started increasing pain. Not sure if this is gonna work. Trying to buy time before total replacements."

"Immediately, I could not put weight on it at all. Really scared me. Eventually, I was able to walk to my car, iced it at home, but still very stiff, causing me to limp. Sure hope it’s better tomorrow."

"I have suffered for 4 years with OA, and the last year was awful. I have tried everything, and eventually, all the doctors told me was to lose weight, and I was not going to do it by exercise. I needed a knee replacement and was too young. In March, I finally found a wonderful doctor who listens and came up with a plan. I had the Zilretta injections in both knees on the 29th of March, and it has changed my life. I can actually do things and not be in excruciating pain. Ten weeks in, and I'm getting minimal pain back, so I'm hopeful that when I need another injection, it continues to work. I will forever be grateful to my doctor for introducing this to me."

"My doctor gave me Zilretta almost 7-8 months ago. I have osteoarthritis, my left knee is almost bone-on-bone. My doctor and Zilretta saved me from hell on earth. I thought that this medication must be a quick fix, no side effects, no icing the knee every 4 hours a day. But Zilretta is a force to be reckoned with, once injected in the knee, it goes where it's supposed to be. That's the power of Zilretta. God bless the mind and hands that created this miracle drug for people like me. I just got my second injection as I told you 7 or 8 months ago, and I am feeling relief. Since 11 am, it is now 6:15 pm, and I could walk at least 3 blocks. Zilretta is fast and to the point, no fuss, no muss, and I am a great-grandma, my great-granddaughter is in her first year of high school. She called me about an hour ago, asking how does your knee and you feel? Like a champ, she stated Zilretta again."

"I suddenly developed horrible knee pain in my left knee (arthritis and meniscus pain). It became so bad that I was told surgery was probably the answer. I couldn't take the time due to my husband going in for major heart surgery. The doctor gave me this injection and said it should last 6 months to maybe a year. It has been over three years, and my left knee is still pain-free!! I have another doctor, and they have been trying to treat my right knee for over a year. The shots they have been trying are not working. I thought they were the same shot as this one, but I found out it isn't. Hopefully, now I can get the same relief as I got with my left knee. I haven't slept a full night for nearly 9 months due to pain in the night. I don't understand why this new doctor didn't try it. Miss my old doctor!!"

"I have bilateral knee pain, and I got bilateral Zilretta injection. I really wish I hadn't. There was no pain in the left knee one week and right knee for three weeks. Pain came back in spades, couldn't bear down on the left knee, and then it cleared up. Next, right knee excruciating pain, can't bear down or walk. I went to the emergency room. Pain pills helped for a little while. I was sent to pain management. Nothing is helping. I'm in pain as I text, even when taking Oxycodone."

"I have been having knee pain for a long time and had cortisone injections several times. The injection helped for a while, but the pain would return. This time the pain was intense, and it was too soon for another cortisone injection. My rheumatologist suggested Zilretta. I had the injection last Thursday after fluid removal. Today is Tuesday. I have been pain free, able to walk and bend my knee since Tuesday! We will see how it goes, but for now, I am very happy he recommended Zilretta."

"I'm 79, I have arthritis under both patellas. Zilretta is a great product. Both knees have been treated 4 times. Treatments lasted only 2 months. (I tried exercise and no exercise.) I was asked if I wanted to try Hymovis or Eflexa. I checked the product reviews, and I'll stay with Zilretta. I have no stiffness, swelling, or other complications."

"Zilretta has been like a 'magic elixir' for my knees. Since I had the original injections in both knees in March 2021, they have been virtually pain-free from any arthritis. I've been able to do things (like squat) that I haven't been able to do for years. I couldn't have a higher recommendation for the treatment in spite of its cost."

"I received the Zilretta injection in both of my knees for stage 4 osteoarthritis. It took about a week to start noticing improvement. While it didn't completely eliminate the pain, it helped quite a bit with the stiffness and made going up and down the stairs much easier. It lasted 2 months and 1 week for me, and the wearing off was pretty immediate. I wish it would have lasted longer, but it got me through the holiday season plus a month. I am hoping to be able to get it again."

"On my 4th go-round with Zilretta in 1.5 years. First year lasted nearly 5 months, not the last time. Only 3 months at best. This is the first time the pain has not totally gone away a few days after the injection. Still feel a pinch on the inside of the knee when getting up. While it was an 8 the last few times, I now think it’s only a 5-6 positive. In the past could dance and take low impact a week later. Not this time. It may be a medication that loses effectiveness after multiple shots."

"I am an active 80-year-old woman. I had shooting pain in my right knee, particularly at night. I had not gotten an uninterrupted night's sleep in two years. Had cortisone injections, relief only lasting about 7 days. Saw a documentary on TV about Zilretta injections not being approved by insurance companies. Checked Medicare. Approved! Found only practice within 50 miles offering injection was my orthopedic surgeon. Just had second injection (3-month interval). Like a miracle. Immediately relieved pain in knee and other places too! Lasted nearly 2 months and began to wear off gradually. Doctor suggested postponing hip replacement due to great relief from arthritis in that joint too. Have told everyone about this new drug, which is not a cortisone. Side effects include fatigue for about a week and some weight gain. My insurance, AARP United Healthcare Plan F, pays 20% not covered by Medicare."

"My knee doctor recommended Zilretta, so I had it injected in my right knee. It felt great at first, but then 4 weeks to the day, the pain came back. Making another appointment on Monday to see what's next. I guess each person has a different effect. Worked great while it lasted."

"Pain relief was substantial following an injection in each knee in July 2022 and lasted approximately 4 weeks. Unfortunately, I had very noticeable mood side effects - which has occurred previously when taking steroids. Pain returned, and 2 months post-injections, my knee pain is significantly worse than before, as well as more clicking/popping in my knees. I can barely ascend/descend stairs much of the time. Did not work and was a huge mistake for me."
