For Myocardial Infarction, Prophylaxis "Took this 3 days post-LAD stent while on chronic pain management for spinal cord damage and 11 fusions. This was a nightmare of severe shortness of breath, bodily waves of feeling of drowning in pain, pounding, racing heart, exhaustion, elevated blood pressure, dizziness, nausea! Will never take this again, ever!!!"

For Acute Coronary Syndrome "Given Brilinta (90 mg twice a day) after angioplasty and one stent in my left anterior descending artery. On the second day, as I was retrieving my medication prior to discharge, I felt an almost surreal feeling of suffocation I never had before - I just couldn't breathe in enough air for one hour. Moreover, I could speak much without being out of breath. I persevered for a week, and these symptoms were replaced by stomach aches plus a sensation of a lump in my throat. I agree (based on scientific evidence) that this could potentially be a life-saving drug. However, the side effects can be horrible, especially for someone who has had a heart attack (in fear if another could occur, though it could all be drug-related)."

For Coronary Artery Disease "I had breathing problems on Brilinta and could not take it. Anyone that takes this medication needs to be monitored, especially if you have elderly parents on this medication. I would have died if I hadn't stopped taking it on my own."

For Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events "After having a stent placed, I was put on 90 mg of Brilinta twice daily. On the second day of taking, my headaches started along with the shortness of breath, also nausea and back pain on the third day. This continued, and on the fifth day, I had to be admitted back into the hospital with what I thought to be a heart attack. While in the hospital, I experienced quite a bit of blood in my urine. It was decided to take me off of Brilinta and start me on Plavix. I'm on my second day of Plavix and already doing much better!"

For Myocardial Infarction, Prophylaxis "I had a stent inserted in the right artery. I was on Plavix (clopidogrel) for 4 months but wanted to try something else because the Plavix was giving me tension and pressure in my head. So I tried Brilinta, and I only lasted 20 days. From day one, I was getting muscle twitches and pains in odd areas that came and went. I also felt jittery all 20 days on Brilinta. The final days on Brilinta gave me minor chest pains, a cough and were giving me mild anxiety attacks. So I called my doctor, and I will be going back to clopidogrel until I get brave enough to try something different. Don't let anyone try to convince you that these drugs do not give you or exacerbate anxiety, they do. I have never had anxiety attacks in my 57 years of life until I started taking some of these medicines like Brilinta, losartan, and olmesartan. I presently take 25 mg of metoprolol, and it is working and controls my pulse to prevent an anxiety attack from getting worse."

For Heart Attack "After 3 months on a statin with many side effects attributed to the statin, I began experiencing increasing shortness of breath. It became so difficult to breathe, and it caused irregular heart rhythms. 3 times to emergency where when I said I thought it was a side effect, I was told it was not a known side effect. When the cardiologist finally called, he said, 'Brilinta is known to cause shortness of breath, we will switch you over to Plavix.' This drug is causing some side effects, and hopefully, I can live with them until I am no longer in need, about another 6 months."

For Coronary Artery Disease "I had a stent on 6/19/24 - using Brilinta since then. Acute shortness of breath during the first week of use; less acute shortness of breath in the following weeks. After one month, almost normal. It also provokes a lot of abdominal gas. I have gastritis; it seems to be even good for that."

For Heart Attack "I had 4 stents placed at the start of September and took Brilinta for 4 months. I experienced bruising all over, had various lower back pains, and noticed a froth in my urine. This, on top of the cost, led me to ask my cardiologist to switch my medication, and I am now on Plavix. All the issues I had have improved or gone away, and I have saved close to $400/month as Plavix is cheaper."

For Coronary Artery Disease "In my opinion, this is an extremely dangerous drug with only a 1% benefit over aspirin alone. By Brilinta's own admission, it has double the chance of a bleed event leading to mortality. According to AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of Brilinta, I cannot have my tequila or a glass of wine with family dinners. I cannot take turmeric or any NSAID for relief of sciatic pain. Aspirin, ibuprofen (such as Nurofen), naproxen (such as Naprosyn), diclofenac (such as Voltaren), celecoxib (such as Celebrex). I am now short of breath, depressed because I cannot be active and no longer relish living."

For Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events "I had three stents put in on July 17, 2017. The surgery was very easy and successful. I was immediately put on Plavix, which did not agree with me. I was then put on Brilinta and am doing okay with it, it seems. However, I do get dizzy, feel fatigued, and bruise horribly. My worst problem is being unable to take anything for pain for my arthritis and spinal stenosis. I sustained pinched nerves on C7 during the surgery, and not being able to get a cortisone shot or even take an Aleve for pain and inflammation has literally made my life miserable. I was not told anything about having to expect these side effects either. I’m grateful for the stents, but how can I improve the quality of my life while staying on this blood thinner for a year?"

For Heart Attack "I cannot separate out the drugs. I know Brilinta and Eliquis both contribute to bruising and feelings of tiredness and shortness of breath after stent inserted. I have an echocardiogram in November, then a follow-up. I hope the meds have helped restart my left ventricle. Too much time went between my heart attack and placement of my stent. I had a 100% blockage. I will trust my doctor that he has my best interest at heart. Pun intended. I did well in cardio rehab for 12 sessions, but then I just want to rest. Life is short, I want to get back to some normalcy. Play golf, see my grandkids. I can only hope and pray I get there. Retirement is close, I almost retired now, but my medical benefits and prescriptions are too important now and insurance. If they get me leveled out and off so many meds, maybe I will have a retirement. I hope."

For Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events "I had a stent installed in the right ventricle at 80% blockage. And then I was put on Brilinta for 1+ year. Minimal problems. Minor bruising in the last few weeks. Minor bleeding early on. Can't tell if it's affecting breathing since I'm also on other meds (statin, metoprolol, lisinopril ... pardon spelling errors). I was a runner, now am a walk/jogger... a few miles/day, a few times a week. Still experience some pressure/breathing occurrences during the first few minutes, then I walk and restart jogging. After a while (10-15 minutes, about a mile) this tends to go away and I can jog a little longer. No way to determine if any of the meds contribute to this. I look forward to stopping Brilinta very soon. Hope it helps the breathing/pressure but am pessimistic."

For Coronary Artery Disease "My experience with this Brilinta drug is much like the others that are negative. This drug made me so irritable and anxious. It kept me up most of the night after my second dose of 90 mg. I felt totally separated from myself and confused. The side effect list is as long as your arm. I called my doctor the next day after a miserable night, and he switched me to Plavix. No apparent problems as of yet. I will never take this particular medicine again. Besides, it's expensive if you can even afford it."

For Acute Coronary Syndrome "Entered CCU with 95% blockage in LAD. Stent placement, prescribed Brilinta 90 mg 2x daily with daily 81 mg aspirin, statin, and BP med. I've been taking Brilinta for 18 months, tired all the time lately, and concerned about bleeding effects with long-term use. I did have an episode where my heart was skipping beats, requiring an ER visit, but no cause was determined. Brilinta information sheet states that the 90 mg dose is for the first year following a PCI event, so I'll follow up with the cardiologist to see about switching to aspirin only."

For Coronary Artery Disease "I really don't like the bruising and bleeding from small cuts. My main complaint is being dizzy every day with loss of equilibrium. I can't take how this feels and will not be on it for long! I had one iliac stent and one coming on my femoral next. Cigarettes and I'm type 2 diabetic, so claudication of these arteries is bad at 95%."

For Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events "I had 1 stent placed in March 2017. Put on Brilinta 90 mg twice a day with baby aspirin in the morning. Shortness of breath started a week and a half into cardio rehab. Was told as long as I could handle the shortness of breath, it was more important to continue taking the drug. I called the cardiologist about an inhaler. This time I am told that is for my primary to deal with. I am tired always, nap almost daily, and now am anemic. The anemia adds to the shortness of breath and fatigue. I have also developed PICA. All I want to eat are dry rolled oats. I assume for the starch because it sure isn't for the taste. I can't wait for my one year to be over. The upper and lower GI I now have coming up are not what I planned on."

For Heart Attack "After three coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG) and a stent, I was on Brilinta for 2 months. I had shortness of breath that got worse and worse to the point that I was not functional. I couldn't breathe the moment it was hot outside. This would last hours. This was the worst of the 4 blood thinners that I have been switched to. All the doctors think this one has the best results, so if you can handle it, try to stay on."

For Heart Attack "After a month of taking Brilinta, I was so short of breath that even bending over caused me to huff and puff. I thought I had heart failure and went to the ER. This is a very costly medication with many side effects, the shortness of breath being common! I should have been alerted about that common problem when the drug was prescribed! I paid $340 for another month's supply and now am stuck with the unopened container. Plavix appears to have many fewer side effects and is cheap compared to this new drug. My Rx has been changed to Plavix."

For Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events "CABG*5 in 2003. Initiated Brilinta following a recent cath lab visit, replacing Plavix (clopidogrel). Dyspnea (short of breath) commenced immediately, especially when lying down. Quite severe. Very distressing. Greatly reduced with an elevated head. Improved further with an elevated head and lying on either side. Dyspnea at rest abated after a few weeks. Still experiencing dyspnea on exertion. Slow to clot; experienced occasional nosebleed, but easily controlled with pressure. Same out-of-pocket cost of Plavix and Brilinta (zero)."

For Myocardial Infarction, Prophylaxis "I had a MI in November, 99% blockage in the main artery. A stent was placed, and I started taking 90 mg of Brilinta twice a day. Other than random bruising, which has not been painful, I haven't had any shortness of breath. I have asthma but have not had any flare-ups since starting the medication. I lived a very inactive lifestyle. I have changed my lifestyle. Lost 35 pounds and walk up to 2 miles a day. I do have mild joint pain, but nothing unbearable. I have been on it for 8 months."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I am now 73 years young. I had 6 stents in 2019 and have been on Brilinta ever since. These 2 points aren’t in many or any of the comments. Yes, I have shortness of breath, yes, I bleed easily, and yes, I bruise easily. I am able to stay quite active. Of course, I don’t like taking any prescriptions (because I no longer trust pharmaceuticals, since Covid), but so far all I can say is it seems to be working. I don’t know if an alternative would be any different or if I could/should quit this drug."

For Coronary Artery Disease "I was given a preload of Brilinta during stent placement. Awoke from the procedure struggling to breathe, feeling very scared. My fight or flight was triggered, and I wanted to remain standing despite nurses asking me to lay down and remain calm. A few hours after I was released, the paramedics were taking me back to the ER. It has been four months after taking Brilinta for one week, and I still can't breathe normally."

For Heart Attack "I had a widowmaker heart attack with a 100 percent blockage. I had a stent placed, and I was put on Brilinta and Asa. I have been on them for over a year, and I have anxiety about stopping the Brilinta. I have shortness of breath with exertion, but not at rest, so I do not really think it's from the Brilinta. I believe it has treated me well, and I am thankful for it."
