For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma in early 2006. My thyroid was removed and tested positive. I was put on Synthroid and Cytomel for one week, then dropped the latter. I slowly went downhill physically and mentally. I gained a lot of weight, and I could not concentrate for any length of time. I could not return to work. An angel gave me the name of a doctor who would prescribe Armour Thyroid. Within a week, I began to feel better. Soon, I felt better than I had in a long time. I returned to work and have stayed healthy ever since. Armour Thyroid is the only way to go for me."

For Hashimoto's disease "I have been on Armour since 1999, except for the time a few years ago when it wasn't available. Have had good luck with it until last year and started experiencing a dry mouth, clenching/snapping jaw, extreme hair loss, nausea at night, and extreme insomnia. Armour is the only medication I take, and I take no supplements. I think there is a serious problem with this medication that is not being addressed."

For Underactive Thyroid "Armour is sadly not working well for me! Someone needs to investigate. My labs this month (July 2021) have officially tanked. On a fairly decent dose (210 mgs) plus I still have my own thyroid. Yet my free T4 is very low at 0.90, my reverse T3 has skyrocketed to 17.5, which has never happened before, at least not since all this time I’ve been on NDTs (2014 onward). Free T3 on the lower part of the range/still not optimal at 3.0, and I am very symptomatic; hands dry, bleeding, and cracking open, 50 lb weight gain in the last year, hair falling like crazy, so hard to get up in the mornings and function, mood swings/depression/anxiety, hard to go to sleep at a decent time, which doesn’t make sense considering I’m exhausted/dozing off all day (unless this med has thrown me into some serious adrenal fatigue). That time of the month (and the leading up to it) has become a painful, emotional nightmare. Need Nature-Throid, WP, and NP thyroid to be back and consistent the way they were before :-("

For Hashimoto's disease "I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. United Healthcare and Medicare say Armour Thyroid is not covered by them. I was on Armour Thyroid for 15 years. My insurance made me try other meds. I tried other thyroid meds including Nature-Throid. I put on 48 lbs under Nature-Throid, my body was tired, I was dizzy, could not function, and had incontinence. I am now back on Armour Thyroid feeling better every day, decreasing in weight, and other symptoms are gone. But I have to pay for it myself, and since I am on Social Security, it is a big expense. Thanks, Armour Thyroid."

For Hashimoto's disease "What has changed with this medication? Something's seriously off since about mid-last year. Headaches, anxiety through the roof. Is there a new API supplier? What? I've taken NDT for two decades. Never experienced anything even remotely like this."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Levo meds and I felt like I was overloaded with hormones. I would have outbursts of anger and sadness. Gained 10 lbs in 6 months, insomnia, etc. These behaviors were abnormal for me. I switched to Armour meds and in one month I lost 3 lbs, sleep well, and have not had any mood swings."

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Nature-Throid for the past, oh geez, 2016? 2017? I am hypothyroid/premenopause. I am 37 years old. (I have Lyme's also (on natural stuff for that.) The pharmacist has told me that Nature-Throid 16.25 mg is on backorder/going to be not making it anymore (was on 32.50 mg). So, whenever I called them in Nov-Dec 2018? To get a refill, they told me it is backordered/discontinued (which stinks because I lost weight). Now started the Armour Thyroid (1/18/19). I feel like I gained weight. (I do workout and eat 97% of the time healthy.) Today is 1/29/19, I just feel fat. Just the jeans that used to be loose are now tight. My hair is already thin, so idk about that if it got any more thinner/falling out. I thought I was noticing/felt like itchiness on my stomach. Thirsty a lot. So, idk if it's too early to tell or not. I'll just need to keep track of symptoms. I'll give it a month and see any difference/side effects. Just wish they would have kept Nature-Throid."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had Graves' disease 20 years ago, and my thyroid was burned out with irradiated iodide. I was put on Synthroid daily and gained almost 80 pounds over the years. I had all the bad headaches, fatigue, water retention, brain fog, etc. Finally, I started working for a functional medicine doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormone treatment. I signed up, and we switched me over to Armour. I have only been taking it for about a week, and I am already starting to feel better. I will report back in another week to say how I am feeling."

For Underactive Thyroid "Naturopath put me on AT in August 2014. My TSH was 4.0, but she said I would feel better if we could get it under 2.0. I gained 32 pounds before Christmas. I thought it was stress because I had gone back to work full-time in August after our youngest started college. I went into menopause and had a period every other month for 4 months, and my cycle stopped in February 2015. I also attributed the weight gain to this. I also got insomnia, night sweats, and severe brain fog, which I also attributed to the menopause. (age 46) I began having acid reflux/heartburn, trying PPIs and eating TUMS. My AT prescription ran out over Christmas 2016, so I took 1 every other day to get by and instantly lost 5 lbs. My heartburn and PM sweats stopped. My period came back! I'm still losing weight, and the fog is gone."

For Underactive Thyroid "I had a total thyroidectomy 13 years ago. I was put on Synthroid, or generic versions. I only noticed some paranoia/anxiousness with those over the years. About a year ago, I started feeling like I was taking the meds for nothing, as I was tired, foggy, etc. I went to see a new doctor who prescribed Armour Thyroid and suggested '2 grains,' which is two pills. I took one to start, and it made me totally anxious. I started taking half and made myself stick with it for a week. I had been having headaches to begin with. I decided to up to one pill and have done that for about 5 days. I am totally foggy, my body aches, I’m extremely anxious. I’m not taking this anymore. I feel disconnected, like I’m not even myself. I hope to go back to my previous doctor and start back on Synthroid. I’m happy Armour helps so many people, but unfortunately, I am not one of them. ;("

For Hashimoto's disease "I have been on Armour 180mg almost 11 years. I tried Synthroid first. My TSH was 195, I was 26. When I started, it put me into a major craze. I still don’t know what. It felt like I had bugs crawling in my skin, and I can’t stress enough how horrible it was. I feel like the last 10 years of my life are a blur. I just kind of tolerated it, I lost the weight I gained. Way too terrified to try any other medication after what I went through, I just dealt with it. Fast forward to 2019, I feel terrible despite my TSH actually being a little hyper because of suppressing my goiter. I got from my TSH being 195. I now have gained 50 pounds, my hair is now falling out again. I’m sore everywhere. I barely get out of bed, I can’t think or remember anything. My vision is rapidly declining. I am in such bad shape that I’m actually going to the doctor to ask him to switch me to a T4-only medication to see if this helps. I can’t take being bedridden anymore, it’s got to the point where I cannot even work anymore."

For Underactive Thyroid "Armour reduced water retention and joint/tendon fatigue. However, it made me ravenous and raised my free T3 to uncomfortable levels. I also couldn't exercise. Back to Synthroid in the morning and 15 mg Armour in the afternoon... Better."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Levothyroxine for 20 years and no problems. I maintained trim weight with long-distance mile runs, the meds, and somewhat healthy diet. And then after a big move to Florida (stress), menopause in full swing, and other stress, everything changed big time. Gained 50 lbs, terrible body cramps, hair loss, sluggish, swollen face, pain in my feet when I first woke in the a.m. and couldn't run anymore. I was told over and over my thyroid numbers were fine, and then I came on here and read and deduced I had to force the doctors to listen to me and not vice versa. I have now been on Armour for only one week. I have been able to start running, I have lost 10 lbs already, and I am very hopeful the other 40 will happen in time. Still learning about iron meds and other numbers in blood to watch and take supplements. Hoping I can have even more success to report."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Levothyroxine for 13 years and recently wanted something more natural. Like other reviews, I didn’t feel like myself. Brain fog, generally just blah. Switched to Armour in December 2019, started to feel really great. 90 days in, I got my labs done and my antibodies had dropped by 600, which is amazing (which I also think can be attributed to going paleo), and my T3 and T4 were in range. 2 weeks after testing, I suddenly had a crazy amount of dandruff. Haven’t had that since before my Hashimoto's diagnosis. Scalp is crazy dry still, and it’s been a month and a half. Flaking all over and no amount of Head & Shoulders will help. Small patches of dry skin behind my ears, eyebrow, back, and other random parts of my body. I got my labs tested again, and while I’m still in range, it appears my T3 and T4 have dropped a little. My doc added 15 mg to my dosage to see if that helps. So far, nothing, and it’s been about 2.5 weeks. Anyone else had this issue?"

For Underactive Thyroid "My blood test said I was on the low side of normal, yet I was having very bad pain in my legs and feet and having chills and loss of hair. I was put on this drug and the pain is gone in my legs and feet. I no longer have chills and my hair is growing back."

For Underactive Thyroid "Echoing the many recent negative reviews on Armour. Since mid-2021, the medicine hasn't been the same. I have had depression, anxiety, panic, and after feeling better on an older compounded med, decided to try again since I felt my own system had settled down. Big mistake. By the end of the week trial, I was non-functional. In addition, I'd had an elevation of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies which I've never had before in my 26-year history as a thyroid patient. I have reported my issues to the FDA and talked to them at length, but told them many patients need NDT, but we need it to be safe, reliable, and effective. Encourage everyone having problems or an interest to do the same."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Been on Armour Thyroid for 10 years - after taking Synthroid for three. Noticed an immediate improvement in my health as soon as I started taking Armour. Absolutely LOVED Armour until a few years ago when the formula (or something) changed. Now I am okay with Armour, but detest the huge price increase (3-month supply for $19 - now $99 for a 3-month supply). Reading this website to find alternatives to Armour because the price increase is ridiculous. Also, the quality is not the same!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I was a real advocate for this medication brand for such a long time, I felt good on this medication. I tried generic levothyroxine and Synthroid and didn't respond well to those medications. But now, since this past April 2019, I'm not sure this medication brand works for me anymore. I'm experiencing extreme hair loss and don't know what to do. I think I might have developed an allergic reaction to the dyes found in this medication. I've also contacted the distributor, Allergan, and they indicated that they have not changed the formulation of this medication since 2008. I don't know what to do, I think I'm going to have to try another medication brand."

For Underactive Thyroid "Has anyone encountered problems with their eyes after being on Armour Thyroid? It is curious to me that I feel better than I have in a long time, however, things keep happening to my eyes. First, a detached retina, cataracts, and now macular problems. Never had eye problems before, and my vision stayed the same as when I was 12 years old until last year when I started Armour. Any connection?"

I decided to switch back to Armour, which I had been off for years... thankful I did... within a few days I have felt like myself again! Fingers crossed."

For Thyroid Cancer "I have been taking 6 grains of Armour Thyroid for almost two years. I had thyroid cancer about six years ago. So nice to be on natural medication THAT WORKS! I feel so much better since switching to Armour. I hope more doctors will understand that this is a viable, wonderful option for their patients."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was on Levothyroxine and I noticed some improvement, but still felt symptoms. We increased the dosage and noticed improvement, but still not quite right. Over time my symptoms returned, and I was continually complaining that my dosage was not right, even though my numbers were within normal limits. My doctor recommended the switch to Armour. The first week I wanted to die, I couldn't stay awake, I had constant headaches, and I was irritable. After 5 days, I was ready to call the doctor and get taken off... and then MAGIC happened. Week 2 I had energy, I started to sleep better, no headaches. So far, so good. I am hopeful!"

For Hashimoto's disease "I've been taking levothyroxine for 15 years or so, and I just felt that it had become stagnant after all those years. I started taking Armour and it was fine for the first 2 to 3 years. Then I noticed that I have been having anxiety, trouble sleeping, and I just overall feel like I'm hyperthyroid. Blood levels are fine, but we just thought I needed to adjust my dose. A couple of months ago, I started breaking out in random hives, allergy tests came back negative. However, it is not every day. Because of the hyperthyroid feeling, I stopped taking it for a week and felt fine. I started back on it, same feeling. I also have started getting a humming in my ears and want to know if anyone else has experienced this before I see an ENT."

For Hashimoto's disease "Four years of misery thinking I had food allergies when I was allergic to the FILLERS in the Armour Thyroid medication. The side effects included: 2 different rashes on my scalp and behind my ears, excessive sugar cravings, depression, suicidal thoughts, after eating my stomach hurt all the time, couldn't eat anything without getting diarrhea. I went to several doctors and not one suspected the Armour Thyroid medication. I figured it out! When I stopped taking it the side effects went away immediately! The rashes a little longer but started clearing up right away. Now, I'm trying the thyroid hormone ONLY without fillers. The interesting thing is my insurance won't pay for it because it comes from a compounding pharmacy not BIG PHARMA."
