For Bacterial Infection "Was given this after going to the doctor. 1st dose felt nauseous, chills, hot flashes, stomach pain, migraine in the center of my head that won't go away. Was able to nap a few hours. 2nd dose same symptoms plus no longer able to sleep, anxiety, can't focus, sweats, buzzing in my head, no appetite, funny taste in my mouth, muscles hurt, feel sick, thirsty. 3rd through 6th doses no changes in side effects, but these also occurred: tongue swollen, don't feel like myself, seeing flashing lights when I close my eyes, fever, runny nose, stiff neck, confusion, vertigo. The original problem went away but came back around the time for each dose. Masks the initial problem. Don't know if it's working. Feel like I'm dying."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Worse medicine ever, side effects are bad: severe headache, dizziness, fever, insomnia, nausea, loss of appetite, needle pain all over the body. Sure, it relieves UTI symptoms, but side effects are worse. I'm on day 2 of 3, but I don't want to keep taking it."

For Bacterial Infection "I was originally prescribed levofloxacin for a bad sinusitis. After a week, nothing was happening. I was kept on it another week, and still, nothing. Then the doc gave me the sulfameth trim. I have been bedridden for 7 days. Body aches, dizziness, nausea, minor vomiting. I literally feel like I was hit by a train. I have 7 days left, but that is it. I'm done. I will not put this crap in my body again. It has been a nightmare."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "I developed a painful staph infection in my nose after a really nasty cold. Bactrim DS cleared it up quickly, but it was harsh on my body. The worst side effect that I had was extreme fatigue. Even walking around the house left me dizzy, out of breath, and shaking with exhaustion. Luckily, I had the sick days to take off work because I don't think I could have done it. I also had nausea and insomnia, but that was mostly just inconvenient. The exhaustion, though, was debilitating. I finished the entire 10-course because the staph infection was painful, and my nose was bright red and swollen. I was scared not to finish the meds. I would definitely ask for something else next time, though."

For Urinary Tract Infection "At first, it was fine, I didn’t have any symptoms. I’ve never had a reaction to medication ever. I got really sick out of nowhere: fever, chills, sore muscles, dizziness, vomiting, sore throat, diarrhea, painful headaches, and behind-the-ear throbbing pain. Worst shit I ever took. I only have 4 days left, but I gave up. There’s no way I can finish this! Oh yeah, my UTI was not clearing up either!"

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed sulfameth for a gross bacterial infection (jacuzzi rash). While on it, I experienced headaches, foul gas, loss of appetite, constant thirst, extreme fatigue, dizziness, spotting, and diarrhea (should have kept up with my probiotics). On the eighth day, I had itchy hives all over my body, severe lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain and stiffness. The doctor said to stop the medicine and consider myself allergic to sulfa drugs. My original rash had cleared up, but so did my two children, who didn't have any antibiotics. For me, obviously not worth the side effects."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Infection "Do not take Bactrim, the side effects are awful. My side effects were that I was dizzy, my mouth was so sore I could hardly eat. Had bad leg pains, no appetite, nausea, headaches, I would break out into a sweat. I stopped taking this, been off of it 3 days, and still feel terrible. Never take this again!!!!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "Ugh, this medicine is the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced in my life. I know everyone is different, but my experience was brutal! Horrible dizziness, nausea, anxiety through the roof, chills, sweats, memory loss. I literally freaked out on the nurse helping me. I screamed, “I’m having a stroke!” It was like something came over me, like an out-of-body sensation. I got really dizzy, and it went blurry. Scary symptoms to have! Hopefully, nothing lingers. My doctor has to look up side effects because he said he didn’t know of many and was surprised to find nervousness, psychosis, and hallucinations being possible. Freaky experience! So now I am out on clindamycin for the MRSA."

For Urinary Tract Infection "In 2013, I had the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) to remove cancerous cells from my cervix. Newer area, new doctor, abnormalities are found again. Two months of scare and tests, I'm told the cancer is 'fine.' I have a cyst on my ovary. They want to remove my uterus due to it making my bladder incontinent, and I had a urinary tract infection. I was prescribed this sulfamethoxazole. So after all the drama, I start feeling really nauseous, dizzy, spinning (fear of falling down), no appetite at all, uncontrollable severe itching and red welts (tiny blisters all over - mainly face), severe headaches, severe weakness, tiredness but couldn't sleep, fever, flashes of chills and sweats, twitchy, restless feeling in feet and legs, painful gas and runny stool, red eyes, my whole body aches!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "Today was my first day taking it for a UTI, which I feel as if it went away. It’s only been about an hour, and I do not feel well at all. I’m dizzy and drowsy and everything. Cold sweats, it’s like my whole body is just weak. I can’t take it. It throws me into an anxiety attack. It’s like taking this medicine makes everything worse."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "On day five of a 10-day course, I noticed a rash on my face. Over the next 12 hours, it would cover my entire body. It didn't itch, it burned! Doc said Benadryl wouldn't help, so I needed a steroid shot. I was also very dizzy and tired on this medication. If you have never taken Bactrim and aren't sure if you are allergic to sulfa drugs, I would just take something else."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Middle Ear Infections "Where do I start? I was feeling so icky and found out I had a double ear infection. My doctor decided to put me on Bactrim. That was the worst medication ever. I've had back pain, dizziness, and nausea ever since starting it. The other odd side effect is the nasty perfume taste and smell I keep smelling."

For Bacterial Infection "Holy cow. So I am on my 4th UTI in 5 months, and this is the first time I have been on Bactrim, and NEVER AGAIN will I take this. The side effects are not worth it. Intense racing thoughts and anxiety within 1-2 hours of taking it. Feeling super dizzy and wobbly. Feeling like you are moving too fast/whiplash, intense depression, demotivation. One day I had chills and a slight fever. Appetite suppressed/food/water aversion. Made me sick to my stomach just to drink water. Exhausted during the day but insomnia. I gave it a 3 because it is working to get rid of my UTI, but wow, it has taken my week. I'm going to fail my finals because I was so out of my mind on this medication."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed to take two pills daily for 7 days for a UTI. Took as directed with plenty of water for a few days with no problem, and my UTI symptoms cleared up. However, I’m on the fourth day, and the side effects have really begun to set in. I have constant fatigue (so much so that I almost fainted in the shower and get tired from just standing), severe headache, dizziness, ringing in my ears, and joint pain. All I can really do is lay in bed and drink lots of water because doing anything else makes me feel very ill. I’m extremely sensitive to minocycline, but didn’t expect to have such bad side effects from Bactrim, considering they’re a totally different class of drug. Seems to be effective at treating my UTI, but unfortunately, the side effects aren’t worth it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "The worst antibiotic I have ever taken in my life... beware! Severe anxiety, dizziness, head felt itchy, fatigued, sensitive to light, weak, no appetite. The worst feeling of my life!! Honestly. I have an infant and am a stay-at-home mom, I felt like I was losing control and felt helpless that I could hardly take care of and interact with my child. Awful, awful drug, I mean it! Still coming down after just 2 days of use, today is the 2nd day of not taking it. I pray I feel back to normal ASAP! Hugs to anyone going through something similar."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Infection "First two days on it, I felt fine. On the 3rd day taking this, I felt so sick to my stomach and unable to sleep. I wasn't sure what was making me so nauseated and dizzy at times, and I then realized it was the Bactrim. I am tossing this down the toilet!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Day 1. Just took one pill in the evening, and after 1-2 hours, I had a high fever, big headaches like someone hit me with a bat. Loss of appetite. Day 2. Morning, I got really tired, and headaches got better. Took the second pill in the evening. The big headaches came back and I felt dizzy. Tried to sleep as much as possible. Day 3, woke up still with headaches and nausea. Skin on my hand is peeling and developed diarrhea. I won't continue the medicine due to too many side effects. Much more, I don't even remember."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have been taking this for 3 days so far and have zero side effects! It also has improved my symptoms so far. I know there are a lot of bad reviews, but personally, I have not felt it myself. I also have bad IST and POTS, so the feeling of anxiety, dizziness, etc., is my normal everyday life, but I don’t feel like it’s been worsened. I would take this over cipro if given the option again. Remember to drink a lot of electrolytes and eat a meal with each pill!! This can make a huge difference."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I’m taking 160 mg every 12 hours for a UTI. And I took my seventh pill this morning. The first day I took it, I felt completely fine, no side effects at all. The next morning, I woke up and felt horrible, my back, where my kidneys are, hurt bad. I had a severe cramp where my liver sits underneath my right rib cage, to the point I couldn’t even manage to walk around. I felt sick to my stomach, dizzy, just plain horrible. I went to the hospital, thinking my liver was failing on me, everything checked out fine. At first, I didn’t know it was the medication doing this, so I continued to take it. I laid in my bed for three days straight. And today, I honestly feel like I’m going to die, it’s making me feel very detached from reality. I feel like I’m going to throw up everywhere, my head is pounding, I feel tired but can’t sleep. I am 27 years old and have been healthy up to this point, NO HEALTH PROBLEMS. I'm stopping this medication, and I'm hoping I’ll feel better in a couple of days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "My daughter was taking this, and the very first night, she had horrible stomach pains. I chalked that up to not having enough food in her stomach. She ate more for her next dose and still had some nausea. Then, just after taking 4 pills, she felt like she was going to throw up, her heartbeat skyrocketed, she got very dizzy, and could barely breathe and has pain in her back."

For Kidney Infections "Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim is the worst antibiotic ever. It caused dehydration, kidney/flank pains, dry mouth, itchy skin, back pains, lower back pains, increased my acne, increased sweating, nausea, dizziness, muscle weakness, and oh boy, I'm never taking this medication ever again!"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Urinary Tract Infection "I’d taken this drug for a UTI about a year ago and remember feeling nauseous and dizzy, but not bad enough to call the doctor. Got two doses into this round, and 10 minutes after taking the second, my hands and feet itched unbearably, my lips felt swollen, I was dizzy, my heart was racing, and I was getting chills and hot flashes. I ended up in the ER and was pumped full of steroids and Benadryl. 9 hours now since my symptoms started, and my heart is still racing. Full-blown sulfa allergy."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed this for a boil. Do not take this drug if you're on an antidepressant. I took this Friday, and by Monday, I started to get extreme anxiety and depression, lightheaded, dizzy, nausea, stomach problems. I stopped taking it Monday morning, and today, Tuesday morning, I’m still feeling the effects, but they are lessening. Talk to the doctor about another antibiotic."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) for Bacterial Skin Infection "Bactrim is extremely effective - where other antibiotics might fail - but many doctors seem to underestimate the severity of side effects (including uncommon ones). It is always difficult for me to be consistent with Bactrim dosage because I experience severe nausea and bouts of dizziness. It may be easy to complain, but I also recognize that an alternative might not be appropriate. Instead, I asked to also be prescribed anti-nausea medication. It's not fun, but it can be tolerable."
