"I took Bactrim DS for about 6 weeks because my doctor thought I had prostatitis. I had no side effects except for feeling unwell the first day or two. I also had a horrible headache the second night but I don’t know if that was the Bactrim or not. Unfortunately the problem wasn’t fixed and I had to get a test done to check for bacteria in prostate. Doctor got results and prescribed me The generic for Levaquin. Going to see about a different prescription as I don’t like the possibility of side effects with Levaquin."

"Never had any challenges with antibiotics before, this stuff destroyed my sleep cycle and I'm still trying to get it back in sync 6 months later. There may have been additional neurological damage only I couldn't tell if that was from the Bactrim or from the Xanax I was prescribed trying to make myself sleep again. Two thumbs WAY down!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I took one pill of a two week prescription and immediately had a splitting headache. Six hours later I had difficulty breathing. Body aches and joint pain also kicked in. Two days later I am finally starting to feel better, but my right knee still hurts. This drug is (almost) banned in the U.K. And should be looked at by the FDA. You need to know if you are allergic to the sulfa class of drugs before even thinking about taking this drug."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was originally prescribed Cipro for 2 weeks to treat my Prostate infection. About 3 days after the treatment was over, the infection returned. My doctor prescribed Cipro for 2 more weeks, but this time the infection persisted so he took me off Cipro and prescribed 14 days of Bactrim DS which I have been taking for 5 days. Yesterday, I was feeling much better. However, not so great this morning. Depressing to say the least. On a positive note, I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I developed a case of prostatitis. Was given Bactrim and told to take 2 pills for 30 days. After about day 3 or 4, I started getting flank pain. I called the doc and he said Bactrim won't cause that. Maybe I have a stone forming. Did some research online and found that Bactrim is not recommended for people with kidney issues. It can cause them to shut down. I'm currently out of town, 5 hours from home, and in quite a bit of pain. I plan to head home in the morning without taking my morning dose and go straight to the hospital."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I went to the doctor for Prostatitis and was RX Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole). Some background, I have high functioning anxiety and decided to write this review while I wait for my DR to call me back about changing ABX. These other reviews are 100% accurate about severe anxiety (heart rate over 90 BPM 24/7), headaches, loss of appetite, and nausea....nothing better than throwing up stomach bile because you can't eat. I thought I had COVID but tested negative... On the bright side, after 3 days my prostatitis went away, I guess it's a double edge sword."

"I was prescribed SIX WEEKS treatment of Bactrim for prostatitis. (The additional two drugs intended to treat the urination issues were so terrible that I stopped them after a few days). My symptoms improved dramatically by the second week of Bactrim, but I was experiencing the headaches, which were manageable. Worse were the gastrointestinal problems. I was familiar with these from Augmentin, but they are common with all broad-spectrum antibiotics. Fortunately, it occurred to me to take PRObiotics to restore the GOOD bacteria in the gut that the ANTIbiotics were killing. This has eliminated the diarrhea. In retrospect, I probably should have tried the Urologist's suggestion of Levaquin, but I had had a reaction to it years ago, and I didn't want to try that again."

"While I have not had any stomach, heart, dizziness, or anxiety issues, I feel like I have had a headache from day 1 of taking this antibiotic combo pill sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim, my side effect is I have a constant pain in the base of my skull in the back. I can get rid of it with ibruprofen, but I have to take this stuff for 3 weeks for prostatitis. Not fun."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "First two-week course seemed to work, but symptoms came back a few days later so I had to go back on it - it is helping again. Hopeful the relief will stick when I go off it in a few days. Middle of this second two-week course I broke out in a mild case of hives and began to experience more pronounced side effects, including back pain, soreness stiffness and achyness like a baby version of my experience after the Moderna vaccine, and increased anxiety. All of that is not fun, but it's manageable - nothing like the nightmare some on this board are describing - and there's no question that it's helped. Doctor says if I ever have to go on a similar antibiotic again it should not be Bactrim because the hives suggest an allergy. (Note: also on Flomax.)"

"Been taking the sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim combo tablet for 4 days for severe prostatitis which has worked wonders. BUT I get painful leg cramps a couple of hours after taking the pill which decrease about the time I'm coming up on my second dose of the day. So far, the infection relief is worth the leg cramps. Going to drink a lot more water to see if this helps with leg ache. If not, will call my doctor on Monday."

"Ok so went to the doc cause I was having some funny pains down stairs Told me he thought it might be some kind of infection prescribed sulpha and off. I went not thinking much of it at all after 3 days I told my wife I didn’t feel rite was shaky had no appetite nothing tasted good I couldn’t sleep had severe anxiety that I’ve never experienced before with two hard core panic attacks and I also had some thoughts of suicide especially on New Year’s Day. My last dose was Dec 4 and I dealt with the side effects till early February and for 3 to 4 weeks my body felt like it was poisoned I don’t know if this medicine even helped cause everything else was so bad it took my attention away from the pain"

"Started twice daily. Plan was for 50 days. Was getting sick after 5 days. Figured my body would sort it out and deal with it. At 12 days uncontrollable diarhea and too sick to move out of bed. Even uncontrollable diarrhea in bed. Stopped it 15 hours ago. Feel slightly better. Now to research the next horrible drug. It actually did help the prostate problems somewhat. Wish I could have stayed on it. God knows I tried."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "24 yo Male, No side effect symptoms on this, while I had moderate symptoms with Doxy. While it did not completely clear up the main issue (yet, still have about 5 days left on it out of a 45 day supply), it did help"

"Hi I had all these symptoms last year and they have returned. Only this time they gave me 4 weeks of the antibiotic drug trimethoprim. So far it's caused my urine to smell funny, slight back pain and pins needles, numbness in my hands I'm also waiting on a PSA and creatnine blood tests I think 1 is to check if the kidneys are function properly and also a PSA blood check to see if any cancer is present. I had all this done last year but was only given a weeks cause of these but I don't find them very effective whatsoever. However the GP as gave me doxycycline 100mg which I had to ask for by name as she said these ones should sort it so I explained to my doctor I need another antibiotic so she did gave me doxycycline 100mg."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I can feel that this medication is pretty powerful... Only side effects I'm experiencing are brain fog or not able to think clearly, kind of a delayed reaction time. I'm an Endocarditis survivor and can't have any infections without risking reoccurrence. 9 more days to go."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Was prescribed bactrim 2x/day for 30 days for prostatitis symptoms. First day fine but by third day throbbing neck pain that aspirin or tylenol didn't take care of. No excessive leaning forward or sleeping on my stomach to crank the neck so I believe it was from the drug. Little bit of nausea and anxiety at the same time. Hard to say if it did much for my prostate because by the time I started I was 70% better from my initial doctor visit."
