"I got this bactrim dm antibiotic prescribed to me for prostatitis/ uti symptoms not to long ago.. I took the medication twice a day for about a month!!! Some days were better then others.. if i would take it with an empty stomach and not enough water to swallow the big chunky tablet my lips would feel some kind of burning sensation going on and I would just feel kind of itchy all over. If I would take it with food and about two glasses of water I'd be perfectly fine! Anyways I don't know why but even after a month of taking the medication twice a day everyday, my uti symptoms are still their! They're not as bad as they were before I started taking the antibiotics.. but they're some what still noticeable.. grrrrrrr!"

"I promised myself if I had a good experience with this drug I would leave a review so others could see that there’s nothing to be scared of. After three rounds of antibiotics to get rid of a UTI, Bactrim was able to clear it in just five days. My symptoms started to feel better the first day. I didn’t take any probiotics or supplements and had zero adverse reactions. My only recommendation is to make sure you’re taking this with a substantial amount of food. Remind her that everyone is different and a lot of people are allergic to antibiotics- also I feel as though most people are prone to leave reviews if they had a bad experience versus a good one. If you are an anxious person like myself and are worried about the side effects, don’t be."

"Took Bactrim DS for a UTI two doses daily for three days. Did the trick. No major side effects, maybe a slight headache and a little light headed a couple of times. However, not awful and most likely from my sinuses. I am normally sensitive to meds and was afraid after reviews, but no problems. I would take it again."

"I have had these urinary tract infections and the only thing that works quickly is the Bactrim DS. It works in a matter of days. Side effects are different for everyone but as mild as mine have been I would choose this over any other antibiotic. Very happy! Make sure that you always take the full dose and the whole bottle as prescribed even though it feels like it's going away. best wishes!"

"I was given Bactrim for a UTI in November 2016. On day 2 my entire lower half of my body became numb. And I mean all of it including the female parts. I was convinced I had MS, Lou Gehrig disease, or even piraformis nerve entrapment. I looked them all up and never in a million years thought it was related to the antibiotic, never even crossed my mind. Nothing made sense that was happening to me. I had to hold onto walls to walk and the nerve and numbness pain was unbelievable. I had no insurance so really never got checked out. When my mom randomly said her friend had a terrible reaction to this drug I started reading. I put it all together and all of my symptoms are because of this. It is now February and I have 80% of feeling back. But still not in female area or left foot but am hopeful I will continue to improve but takes a LONG time. This is the worst experience I have ever gone thru in my life. And, I HAD taken this drug before so you never know."

"Received a seven day prescription for Bactrim and on the 5th day lost appetite, had terrible body aches, and extreme fatigue. On the 6th day, had a fever, and chills too. Stopped the treatment on the 7th day. Then on the evening of the 8th day developed a rash all over my upper body and face. Pharmacist recommend Benadryl which helped somewhat. Having a urinalysis in a week and surely hope it worked and cleared up my urinary tract infection. "

"Had what I suspected was a bladder infection that unfortunately I ignored and forgot about for 10 days, with symptoms that more closely lined up with a kidney infection. I've had many UTIs in the last year and one earlier this year. I've taken Bactrim for them before with no issue. Took a home UTI test to confirm suspicions of infection. Consulted a virtual doctor (can't get to an office because exposure to covid). And they prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 3 days. Took all the pills but symptoms came back at 5 am on the last day. (Took last dose of initial round at 11pm) Took another home test and showed trace of infection remained. Didn't know what to do, so I got ahold of the doctor again and requested an extension of the medication. 1 dose in and waiting to see if things improve."

"Was on cipro for a week but no relief so my doctor switched me to this drug. Felt relief within 72 hours. I had extreme nausea and a headache the first day I took this drug but then I started to take it with meals and I haven't had those side effects."

"Im currently taking bactrim for a UTI. It relieved my symptoms rather quickly however the side effects are really bothering me. I've had the most painful migraines since taking it yesterday. I also have the chills and slight nausea. I wont take this medicine ever again once I finish it. The constant painful headaches are not worth it."

"Took 1 dose (first dose) at 6am on a tuesday. By 8am throat was sore. 9am feet went numb and started feeling odd, throat hurt more as well. By 11 am feet were red and raw and hurt like nails poking through them. Genitals became beat red and raw! Had a fever and loss of appetite. Did not take anymore after first dose. Thursday feet were better but still had sore throat and genitals still raw and felt nauseous. Friday still sore throat, genitals not as red or raw but developed a hive on them. It's now Saturday and still have sore throat, color is back to normal on genitals but still have hive and now another in the pubic hair area. I'm kinda freaking out now and probably go back to he doctor today. All this from one damn pill! Uti still there"

"I strongly advise against taking this drug. Many people do not know that this drug has been banned in the UK due to the amount of people that died from it or contracted Steven Johnson Syndrome, which is characterized by your skin falling off. I was prescribed Bactrim for a UTI. Clearly, there were a lot of other options to prescribe a small, 100 pound girl with a minor infection. However, the doctor chose this drug. I took 3 pills out of the 14 that I was given and I had such a severe migraine that I could not open my eyes or chew food. The pain eventually went into my neck and that is when I stated to panic - called doc and was told I had an allergic reaction and stopped taking it immediately."

"Was prescribed two pills per day for seven days. I could already tell about 5 hours after I took my first dose that my UTI symptoms had improved. Not miraculously, but enough to give me some relief. I went and got some Azo too, but ended up not needing to take it because the Bactrim started to help pretty quickly. I've taken three doses now, and my symptoms are MUCH improved. I will of course continue the full course to make sure the infection is knocked out completely. I haven't really experienced any side effects at all. I think if you follow the instructions to a "T" you will have much fewer, if any, side effects. Take the pill with a meal and at least one full glass of water, then water all day long. It works!"

"This is day 2 taking this med. It makes me very queasy and very tired. The nausea and tiredness start about 30 minutes after I take one, and seem to last for 6 or 7 hours. I try to take it with food, but I don't have much appetite (not gonna be mad about that tho). The uti seems pretty much gone, but I'm also taking Azo."

"I had a bad UTI and I have taken this in the past and I am now taking it again. I get 4-7 days depending on doctor. It almost always clears it up. If you don't eat like I do then you can get nauseated if you take it on an empty stomach. The pill is huge so I chew it and use a spoon of yogurt and eat it down like that. I wish they made chewable versions or coated versions as it's hard to take but I do take it! The pill is a miracle worker and helps me greatly."

"I was scared to death to take this medication. I got the Bactrim on a Friday night and didn't have the courage to take it until Sunday night. The horror stories I read about it almost gave me panic attack just thinking about the what if's. Luckily I haven't had any side effects other than my lips burned a bit after the first dose and I was jittery. I am sure to eat a full meal before taking the dose."

"Was told at doctor's office that I had a urinary tract infection so was put on Bactrim. Forgot that I had been on it a couple of years ago for same thing. Had the same reaction as I did before. Continuous stomach upset and severe itching. Even though I was taking it with food and drinking plenty of water. Took first dose Friday evening last dose was Tuesday morning. One pill twice a day for four days. Last time it took more than a month to finally get my stomach to quit feeling upset and to quit itching. Not looking forward to this again. Will definitely remember to tell the doctor not to put me on it again. However, it did clear up the infection!"

"I was prescribed this for a rather mild UTI. I took it with a granola bar in the morning and was drinking tons of water. Within 2 hours the migraine set in, then the nausea and what felt like menstrual cramping then the body aches and chills and what I thought was a fever but was really just all my skin becoming very hot my face looked like it had a slight sun burn. I called the pharmacy and they said this was not the drug but rather symptoms of my UTI. I was so sick that I left work and went to urgent care, they re tested my urine witch now came back negative for everything and they told me to immediately discontinue taking it. The symptoms lasted well into the evening and the migraine followed me into the following day. I'm not sure if this was an allergic reaction or if I was just super sensitive to it, but it was one of the worst nights of my life. For reference I am 5"2 120lbs and was given 160mg twice daily for 3 days, and I do have a somewhat sensitive stomach."

"I have never had such a horrible experience with an antibiotic. I only took it for three days, twice a day and I was so nauseous I couldn’t eat anything, and I got so dizzy that I couldn’t even walk straight. I will never take this antibiotic again."

"Had a severe UTI that wouldn't clear up on it's own so I had a doctor that called in Bactrim. Within 15 minutes of taking it I had severe flu-like symptoms. It is now 3 years later ... I can only eat about 10 different foods due to intolerances and severe allergies to most anything. I cannot tolerate chemicals or outside allergens either. I basically live in a bubble- of pain, fatigue and misery. When people ask what happened to me, all I can say is, I don't know, I took Bactrim and it ruined my immune system. Did the Bactrim clear up the infection? Yep... sure did."

"I'm 21 years old with my first UTI. My symptoms started on Saturday (constant urge to go, lower abdominal pressure/cramps, and an extremely uncomfortable urge to continue voiding even after I was done, and dark yellow/brown urine) went to the doctor yesterday(Wednesday) and was prescribed a 7 day prescription to bactrim. My symptoms seemed to dissipate within hours (was still feeling them just not as severe) I've taken 3 doses and all my symptoms have stopped and I can have full voids. Not feeling any side effects From the medication, but glad to be feeling better. Urine was still sent in for a culture. Been drinking lots of cranberry juice and water at my doctors recommendation to "flush" everything out. Feel much better"

"So, I wanted to review this drug because I've been on five antibiotic treatments within the last month and a half for the craziest UTI I've ever experienced in my life. Landed in the ER for fevers and pain and worst was the mental confusion.... Anyways, during this time I've been on IV antibiotics, Z pak as well as Keflex, which gave me horrible anxiety and extreme photo sensitivity. When I tried levaquin, it sent me to the ER. Then finally bactrim DS was prescribed. After taking it the first night I did have some trouble sleeping but after two doses of the medication I did adjust. I have been taking probiotics with these meds. It's helped overall. Side effects I noted vivid dreams, fatigue, and constipation were the main three."

"I just took one 160mg tab of bactrim. This is the worse pill in history. I got a rash, headache, neck and back pain. Sore throat, bad. My whole body muscles and joint are in so much pain. Nausea. My husband has to get me food, put me in the tub to take a hot bath. I feel so weak OMG. Fever of 101.5. which goes up and down still. Chills and lightheaded. The next day I still has those symptoms. Gonna call my doc on Monday to give me a different pill. If there was a 0 rating that's what I would give. Thought I was gonna die."

"Batrim did not work to cure my UTI. Two doctors visits (because he didn’t listen to me when I said Bactrim doesn’t work for me) and two rounds of antibiotics later it was fixed. Cipro. Cipro is the only thing that fixes mine. I don’t know why Batrim doesn’t work on me, but it doesn’t."
