"Started taking Carafate three days ago for gastritis. Been having headaches, backaches, allergy eyes itching, and ears and throat itching. Today, after the second dose, I experienced acid reflux that left my throat and tongue raw. Not sure what to do here."

"It works kind of for gastritis. You have to take it on an empty stomach. But it makes me feel weird. Most people that take it notice lightheadedness, weakness, or being dizzy. Some say it increases their anxiety. It’s because it drops your blood pressure. Not sure why it’s not mentioned as a side effect because it happens to a lot of people. It drops mine 20 points, and I have perfect blood pressure, so it makes it too low, and I get cold and just want to lay in bed. Other people I know complained, and I told them to check their BP, same thing for them 90/70 and 88/68. I'm usually 120/80, and I’ll be 90/60-70 something if I take it. So I avoid taking it unless I have to."

"I am taking liquid Carafate (2 tsp 4x daily) for severe gastritis mostly brought on from stress. I felt immediate relief after the first day. For me, however, I eat a 'brat' diet while on Carafate, which is bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. Bland diet. Pain gone. Stomach healing. Thanks to whoever invented this."

"Took my chest and back pain away, which were intense from the GERD. However, I was barely able to stand up and walk to and from the bathroom by day 4 without feeling dizzy and nauseous. I felt forgetful, and the vertigo was becoming debilitating. I do not recommend this for anything other than treating the actual ulcer if and when it’s diagnosed through an upper GI series."
