For Osteoarthritis "I’m in so much pain since my Durolane injections 1 week ago. I’m bone on bone and had numerous knee surgeries; I know pain, and this by far is the most painful injection I’ve ever had. I was shocked as I could barely walk out of the doctor’s office after receiving my injections and so grateful I was driven to my appointment; I would not have been able to drive. I’m unable to stand for more than 10 minutes and still have extreme stiffness and inflammation and need to elevate and ice daily. After reading these comments about Durolane and the extremely large co-pay from my insurance, I feel helpless in ending my chronic knee pain; I’m not ready for knee replacements as I’m in my 50s. I’m praying for everyone who is suffering with pain from osteoarthritis and the lingering side effects from this drug. There has to be a better solution out there?"

For Osteoarthritis "Am 48 and have bone-on-bone OA in L knee. No relief from cortisone injection. Made knee more irritated. Am on serious medication to control pain, so am hoping Durolane will replace those and delay surgery. I had it 3 days ago. *Please request a local anesthetic before you get it. GP, surgeon, and radiologist all said it wouldn’t hurt. It was put in without local anesthetic and was excruciating. Having said that, my knee is already feeling better. Back to work tomorrow, which will test it out further. Just wanted to share my story so people make sure to have an anesthetic prior to it."

For Osteoarthritis "Worked well for me. I had instability and resulting pain in my right knee from moderate arthritis. In October, I had the Durolane injection and cortisone. No problem for five months. Just had a second round of the two shots. Pain-free again. $300 for the injection, so $50 a month seems reasonable."

For Osteoarthritis "I had Durolane injections in both knees one week, 5 days ago. The injection in my right knee was very painful. The injection in my left knee was not quite as bad. I was able to drive myself home, but by that evening, I couldn't put any weight on my knees, and we had to pull out the crutches I had relied on for foot surgery. The next day was no better. Getting in and out of a chair was excruciating, and I had to have help. Same situation with getting up and down the stairs. I couldn't do it without butt climbing. Fortunately, my husband was here to help. I slowly improved, but one week after the injections, I still couldn't drive safely. It was very painful to lift my foot on and off the gas and brakes. At this point, I am better, but I'm going to try and find a new orthopedic doctor who can see me this week. I want to know what went wrong! I broke down into tears several times in the past week and a half, and the physician who gave me the injections has been avoiding me."

For Osteoarthritis "I have had injections of 1 mg in each big toe joint over the last 2 years for severe OA. The total is 4 sessions. The first time I had relief within 5 hours. I had no side effects, and I had success in pain relief and mobility. Second injections were 9 months later, and again, no side effects. I was told they don’t usually last a full year, and I was lucky the injections lasted for that time period. Cost was $420 for both feet and covered by my insurance. The third time was a year ago, and it was a success. I had recent injections this week, and the experience was different. I have had a reaction in both feet of swelling and pain around the joints. Hope it goes away soon. I can’t get my shoes on. I have tried icing and pain relievers, but nothing helps so far."

For Osteoarthritis "I developed pain in early May and basically have had to wear a brace on my knee most of the summer. I got my injection on October 8, 2019. I was concerned by the number of negative comments on this site. Thankful my experience was positive. Yes, it hurt a lot during and for the next 24-48 hours. I was very cautious and applied ice frequently, as well as used Advil. Uncomfortable, but a week later I am very happy with the results. I have some discomfort, but have better mobility and less pain, for sure."

For Osteoarthritis "I had the injection in my left knee. The same day, I experienced severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Two weeks later, the pain in my knee is still there. The cost of the injection was $535.00, to which 80% was covered by our health plan. The doctor advised me to get another shot in 6 months. That is NOT going to happen. I will look into other methods for the osteoarthritis."

For Osteoarthritis "After the Durolane injection, I had no post-injection issues, but the medication just brought no relief. I had better results with steroid injections. Perhaps it's not the medication, just time for a knee replacement."

For Osteoarthritis "Received Durolane injection approximately 1 month ago for knee osteoarthritis. Within 2 days, pain was improved significantly. Have continued with physiotherapy exercises and have significantly improved flexion range of motion since the injection. Pain profile has continued to improve over the month. There are so many noticeable improvements but among the most important are, I can now walk, go up and down stairs, and exercise with much less pain and discomfort. Very pleased with the results and hope they are long-lasting. Would definitely do this injection again if pain returns. I wish I had tried this sooner as I have been suffering through pain/discomfort for years."

For Osteoarthritis "Bone on bone, both knees, advanced arthritis, terrified of the replacement surgery. Durolane, 8 days ago, I feel great. I have varying degrees of pain after the injection that lasted a few days, back using a cane for a couple of them, so there was some discomfort. I couldn't sit down and ice them for the recommended time, though. I think this is the miracle drug, folks, own a farm and can get around for the first time in a couple years. Walking on stairs, up and down hills, gravel and fields again."

For Osteoarthritis "The best! I have bone-on-bone osteoarthritis in both knees, but the right is particularly bad. Holding out for replacement knee surgery a few more years. Have had both Durolane and cortisone injections in the knee, and the Durolane was by far the best. First, it hurt less going in, it hurt less for the first couple of days while the fluid moved around and settled, and it provides me with four months of pain freedom. Cortisone gave me zero relief. However, insurance coverage is poor (20%) and only covered every six months, and the injection cost at the ortho is high ($1500+ with aspiration), so I don't get it often. I wish it were less expensive and able to get as frequently as three months."

For Osteoarthritis "I have had meniscus operations on both knees. I have had Baker's cysts burst in both knees and again in my right knee. My right knee has been painful since 2019. I had a Gel 1 injection in early 2020, and it brought some relief. My right knee continued to be painful through 2020. I had a third rupture of a Baker's cyst in my right knee in early 2021. I asked for another Gel injection. Finally, six months later, my rheumatologist ordered an MRI of my knee, and it needed a knee replacement. The orthopedist said he thought a Gel injection wouldn’t work because the knee was in such bad shape. I had the Durolane Gel injection in both knees and was out of pain in three days. It was wonderful. I could walk without pain. No side effects. I know it is temporary, but it worked for me. My feeling is that the lubrication missing from burst Baker's cysts was replaced by the Gel. I also feel that there is a connection of statin medication with my deterioration of the knees."

For Osteoarthritis "Horrible! Stay away! Was on crutches the night after injection. I couldn't walk on my own for two days. Several weeks before I could climb the stairs or drive. I don't know what is in it to cause me such a bad reaction, but I had severe inflammation from the injections, which I got in both knees. The pain in my knees didn't calm down until I received oral steroids from my internist. The orthopedic doctor who gave me the injections offered no satisfactory explanation of what had gone wrong. All in all, it was at least a month before I was back to normal."

For Osteoarthritis "Hyalgan is much better. I've been taking a round of 5 Hyalgan shots every 6 months for 10 years. Well, lo and behold, it isn't the 'preferred product' for my insurance. They made me try Durolane before they would approve Hyalgan. It has been 7 days, and I am in excruciating pain. The Hyalgan shots only hurt for a couple of days, and the pain was more mild. This has been 7 days of barely being able to make it through the workday, my pain is so bad. I took my temperature tonight, and I have a low-grade fever (no other symptoms other than pain). I am calling my doctor tomorrow. This is horrible."

For Osteoarthritis "I have right knee bone on bone. I'm 63; my ortho said I had the most impressive OA she'd seen in someone my age in a while. I got a Durolane injection two weeks ago tomorrow. Hurt like the dickens going in. Pain has been constant since I got the injection. It waxes and wanes but is ALWAYS there. 600 mg Ibuprofen, ice, pillow between knees when I sleep, hip hurting and ankle hurting. Will this pain EVER get better? At this point, I wouldn't recommend or do this again. Had had three cortisone injections, but they seemed to mess with my heart. That's why I tried the Durolane. I'd rather go back to cortisone and take my chances. This is just my experience. Will call about more physical therapy tomorrow, too. Good luck, everyone!"

For Osteoarthritis "Had a Durolane injection three weeks ago. Was warned by the consultant it only works in fifty percent of patients. If it doesn’t work the first time, no point in having a second one, he said. I was told it would start to work in one to two weeks. Within six days, I was out of pain, but then had foot surgery on the other limb. Now hobbling on the injected knee, which seems to have aggravated it, so gone back to using crutches for the foot. Hoping I have not undone its effect."

For Osteoarthritis "Right knee had terrible pain, and MRI revealed a torn meniscus post and OA. Ortho doc recommended Synvisc, and the results were great. The injection's effect was immediate, and it lasted 14 months. The second injection lasted 18 months! A month ago, I called to have the Synvisc pre-auth’ed, and the insurance co. decided that they would only authorize Durolane. I argued, but it was Durolane or nothing. I had the Durolane done a week ago. The doctor drained 3/4 syringe before he used the Durolane. I didn’t feel a thing and questioned if he did it at all. A week later, I still have the same problems. My knee still hurts, it’s grinding bone on bone and is pinching when I walk. My husband says he’s going to tell the insurance co. that he’s not paying for it because it didn’t work. I will give it about 1 more week before I call the insurance agent and file an appeal after I plead this chapter of my case, again. I will never recommend Durolane to anyone! So far, this stuff is trash!"

For Osteoarthritis "Had Durolane injection June 13, 2019, in hips. Came out of the doctor's worse than when I went in. Extreme pain and discomfort. Taking Naproxen regularly with no relief. Can barely walk and has worsened my quality of life. I would not do it again and would not recommend it. Very expensive as well, not covered by insurance."

For Osteoarthritis "I was taking Gel-One and Synvisc for quite a while for both of my knees. I started taking Durolane injections because under Medicare Part B, they are completely covered. I was constantly having an issue getting the insurance to cover Gel-One and Synvisc. The Durolane shots do not work as well as the others, but are effective, and I have no hassles with BCBS covering them. I have no side effects at all from Durolane. I am satisfied."

For Osteoarthritis "After years of suffering from my bone-on-bone arthritis, I was informed by a relative about this product. What a relief, I have my life back again. As I was once very active and then limited by my condition, as it was very painful for years. Now I found relief and have my life back. I feel awesome. Just scheduled another shot soon."

For Osteoarthritis "Got my Durolane in my left knee 18 days ago. I would say it’s twice as bad as before the injection. I’m just trying to push through the pain and continue on. It’s better if I just ice it and do nothing, but how can you live like that? Doesn’t seem to make it worse if I just push through the pain and continue exercising and walking. So that’s what I’m doing. It was much better before the shot."

For Osteoarthritis "No discomfort after injection in left knee today. Walked out of the office, stepped off curb with left leg. A little clumsy, because of favoring it, no pain. Got in truck without lifting leg. Sat at table for lunch, leg did not throb while sitting for a while. Got up without the usual discomfort and used the table to steady myself. We have a walkout basement with 14 steps which I have avoided using, and when I did, it was all I could do to go up and down. No problem, although I did not bounce up and down like I used to, no problem, a little discomfort. 1st day, awesome. I'm 80, but act like 20, playing golf tomorrow. So far none of the problems some others have experienced. I'm a Vietnam combat veteran, and the VA administered the injection. The price was right, but had to earn it the hard way."

For Osteoarthritis "It is very painful at first. My doctor gave me one injection in the right knee and waited one week for the second injection in the left knee. I started to feel the benefits about a month after I had the injections. The pain that you feel in the first two weeks is bearable compared to the therapeutic effect. I was able to walk without a walker, the pain went away. This is my second set of injections, and I just got my first injection yesterday. I'm in a lot of pain right now. The second injection is going to be administered next week, and I am more than eager to get it because of the therapeutic effect. I had Synvisc injections before, and they didn't last as long as Durolane. Every case is different, but in my case, Durolane is better than Synvisc. I give it a 10. I have a lot of resilience when it comes to pain, I had 2 babies that weighed over 10 pounds each. I feel like a cavewoman, the delivery was normal, no cesarean."

For Osteoarthritis "I would give this injection a minus 10! This lab should be sued for selling this product. The pain and swelling have been excruciating right after it was injected. I have not been able to walk or sleep from the pain it has created. It also caused me respiratory problems plus swelling of the knees. Insurance decided to change it to a low-cost product like Durolane. Please do not use this injection."
