"My T score was -3, so I was advised by my rheumatologist to start Evenity. I'm 70 years old and pretty active. This drug took me down in less than a week. I experienced fatigue for two days, but that dissipated. Unfortunately, my blood pressure went through the roof, and I still have bad neck pain. I asked my rheumatologist if she's seen other patients with side effects and she said no. I find that extremely hard to believe. I noticed some have had a few to no side effects. However, it's hard to ignore all of the negative reviews here. I told my doctor today I was not going to continue. She wants to put me on Prolia, probably the same side effects. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I wish there were some other alternative that was not as risky. Good luck to all."

"I did have a gain in the left hip & spine, but needed the support in the right hip. The right hip went from -2.7 to -2.8. All I went through & had no gain. From the second month, I had side effects. First, stomach pains (4 tests & 3 doctors), next a terrible cough & dry throat (continue to have trouble with this one), fingernails peeled off & still can’t get them to grow and last was face & neck rash with three trips to the dermatologist. Wish I had never started this & would never recommend it."

"Had 11 months of injections. Injections aren't comfortable but tolerable. Sometimes I would get a headache, but by months 8 or 9, I was noticing aching in my hands, wrists, elbows, hips, etc. As I was so close to the 12 months, I continued through the 11 months. Didn't have the last injections and haven't had an injection since the beginning of February. I have always been active by walking, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, etc., and watching my diet, supplements, etc. I now feel like I have arthritis. All blood work is perfect, DEXA improved in the spine by 49%, pretty impressive. Where I had osteoporosis in three sites, I only have osteoporosis in my hip. But I am so stiff early in the morning, and dull aching wakes me up at night sometimes. I am hopeful and prayerful that these side effects will go away. Am switching now to Fosamax or Reclast, but the Evenity journey is one to keep an eye on. I kind of wish I had stopped sooner as I believe, not 100% certain, that the most benefit is in the first 6 months. I'm 67."

"I am 68. I took my first Evenity shots in October 2022 and my last in December 2022. Since October, I have had dyspnea, dizziness, and lightheadedness. I can hardly be in a store for more than 10 minutes without feeling as if I will faint. Because of fatigue and weakness, household tasks are difficult. I move much more slowly. Now with dysphagia and anorexia, eating is difficult. Although never painful before, the joints in my hands, fingers, and toes are stiff and painful. Additionally, I developed cramping in those areas. The pain in my hips, upper thighs, neck, and shoulders is poorly responsive to all pain medications. There was an exacerbation of pain in several old areas of injury which had not been painful for decades. And now I have intermittent pain in my eyes and an annoying twitch in one that will not subside. After that first shot, it was as if someone flipped on a switch with all these symptoms. My concern is they will not go away for a long time, if ever. Evenity was a huge mistake!"

"After the 6th injection, my GFR lab results fell from 97 to 55, indicating damage or issues with my kidneys. Vitamin D went from 87 to 155. I have been told by other doctors that 150 is a toxic level for vitamin D. I have had continued pain, kidney issues, lab results in several areas very erratic. I have had a difficult time getting the doctor to order lab tests. The doctor continues to tell me to hold on until the year is up. I think he is getting a payoff to keep patients on this drug, Evenity! I have scheduled a second opinion review with another doctor/endocrinologist and urologist. Will report back in a month or two. I do not recommend taking this drug."

"My numbers: -4.2 spine, -1.8 hips. Within a week of starting this drug, I had a gradual onset of pain in the groin, hip, and sacral joint in my right leg. This got progressively worse and by the end of the month, I was limping. After the 2nd month injection, the pain increased even more, with severe pain and stiffness in the hip, and I struggled to climb stairs until eventually, I could only put weight on my left leg. I have never had problems with my hips and was now struggling with the simple activities of daily life. I was horrified at the increasing loss of mobility and shocked at being encouraged to continue with this drug, as my endocrinologist said, 'it is building bone,' but what use is that if my mobility is so severely impaired? By my third injection, I was struggling to walk, and my treatment was discontinued. I have had a gradual improvement over 4 weeks and can now walk and climb stairs, but still currently have hip pain. I absolutely do not recommend this drug."

"I started Evenity in April 2022 and just completed the last dose in March 2023. My t-score before starting this medication was very poor at -3.5. I had NO side effects from this medication. I actually started feeling better after the first dose with much less pain from a previously broken hip due to severe osteoporosis. I’m optimistic about a good amount of improvement in my bone density because I have felt so much better. I recommend this medication. I think it’s the best treatment on the market."

"I took Evenity after an endocrinologist, with my immunologist’s blessing, decided it would help with osteoporosis after a hip stress fracture. It was the worst decision to listen to them, it’s poison! I felt sick after the first shot but wasn’t sure if it was the flu or not, so I continued taking it. After the second shot, I started experiencing diarrhea and swelling in my throat and mouth. By the third shot, my jaw started twitching and moving on its own. My upper and lower back teeth hurt, and I was biting my mouth, tongue, and cheeks while eating and even during the night. I also had headaches, continued flu-like symptoms, added fatigue, insomnia, and an overall feeling of being unwell. I finally stopped taking Evenity after the sixth shot, even though it was prescribed for 12 months. Now, I have a twisted jaw where my teeth no longer match up, and I can only eat using the teeth on my left side, which is horrible. The doctor prescribing it and my primary care physician never mentioned these horrible side effects in their notes. I saw an orthodontist, and my bite is completely off."

"Just completed round #9 of 12 injections. Things potential patients should know: 1) The injections are painful...think cortisone joint injection painful, but not quite. 2) Expect post-injection swelling, sensitivity, itching, etc. 3) Expect to have some degree of generalized malaise in the days following your injections. After the first round, I, personally, felt like I had the flu...minus any fever, nausea, or vomiting. Severe headache and body aches. Subsequent injections brought similar after-effects, though to a somewhat lesser degree. With every visit, you are asked the same questions about your general health-any new/planned dental surgery (osteonecrosis of the jawbone), stroke/heart attack, serious illness, or infection which makes me more than a little concerned about the long-lasting negative impacts on my health. At my most recent visit with the doctor, he indicated the best bone density improvement will only be about 10%. In my opinion, that's not much considering all the pain and misery I feel while taking it."

"I have completed 12 months. I'm in constant pain in my arms, legs, and groin. I have a hard time walking. I could walk and only had backups when I started. My body has changed, and I now have a big belly, even though I have not gained weight. All I can say is the DEXA scan better show improvement! I'm having it in January 2023. Very unhappy and on antidepressants."

"I had my 10th Evenity injection on Oct 26th. Two more to go. I had very little in side effects throughout the past 10 months of injections. Some slight joint pain in wrists and some fatigue on occasion. Took blood tests every 3 months. Vitamin D and calcium levels remained steady and normal. I will see how much success in bone density improvement occurred in January 2023 when I will take my next density test. But as it stands today, I have had no problems with this drug."

"Just finished 12 months of Evenity shots. During this period, I took Prempro estrogen, a multivitamin, and calcium with vitamin D. I also walked 2 miles a day, did push-ups, sit-ups, and used light weights. Starting T scores were: Hip -1.6 and Lumbar -2.5. Ending T scores were: Hip -1.8 and Lumbar -1.9. Lumbar bone density was significantly better, however, Hip bone density got worse."

"I have been on this medication for six months. I have not yet had another bone density test. I consider myself very active before going on this medication, but now I have generalized joint pain and difficulty getting up from a sitting or standing position without pain. My pain is now in my lower back. I am not happy with the Evenity helpline, all they do is just take your information. I hope I get better results on my bone density, and I hope this joint pain goes away upon completion of this drug."

"I have completed six of twelve injections. As mentioned in other reviews, I have experienced flu-like symptoms the day after each series of injections. Recent CMP shows BUN/Creatinine ratio doubled in the past 6 months! Calcium and Vitamin D are fine. For the past 2 months, I have been dealing with persistent arrhythmias. I am in the process of a complete cardiac workup. I am trying to understand if/how Evenity impacts heart functioning. There is conflicting research on romosozumab and cardiovascular risks. I am questioning whether I will complete six more months of injections."

"I have taken 11 courses of Evenity thus far...and every time I have had pain/swelling/itching at the injection site, headaches, body aches, lethargy, and trouble sleeping in the days following the injection...though admittedly, the ill effects are not as severe now as in the early days of the treatment. However, I am concerned about the long-term after-effects, mostly issues with my teeth/jawbone. While I have been closely monitored by my dentist and all appears well thus far, it's still a worry. And too, the potential for bone build/improvement is minimal at best--10% according to my doctor. Seems like a lot of misery to go through for such a little bit of potential improvement. My doctor also recommended I move to another injectable medication once I finish with Evenity, but they ALL carry the same terrible potential risks, so I declined. I hope to have some bone density improvement, but honestly, I do not expect much."

"I had my second injection on September 20, 2023. I had no side effects. I was very skeptical about taking it after I was reading about so many people that were having so many side effects. The injection did not even hurt. I am so glad that I started. This just goes to show that everybody is different."

"Worked well for me. The only side effect I experienced was soreness at the injection sites for two days post-injection. I received Evenity because I had severe spinal bone loss from taking prednisone 20 mg daily for 5 months. This was my first flare of rheumatoid arthritis. I had two severe thoracic vertebrae fractures in 3 months. After my year on Evenity, my osteoporosis has improved."

"BEST osteo med ever!! I was on Fosamax, which caused severe stomach and kidney issues. Then was put on Actonel, which caused severe inflammation of my breast bone and sternum. Took forever to get Evenity approved because I was only 45-had ovarian cancer in my 20s, so went through premature menopause, and with having cancer, I couldn’t do hormone replacement. So, 1st dexa in 2016 after I broke a rib when my husband picked me up in a bear hug showed osteopenia (-2.1) and tried the mentioned options. In 2019, T-score went to -2.9, doctors tried getting other meds approved, but insurance just saw my age and denied. The COVID delayed further options. Found a new rheumatologist last year, and she got Evenity approved in 3 weeks, and with the additional copay card from the manufacturer, I was able to afford it. Last dose was in July, and new Dexa had bones in normal range!"

"I'm going to be getting my 9th shot and have had little or no problems. The first 4 months I had headaches for a few hours, but a Tylenol took care of it. Now, I take a Tylenol before I get the 2 shots. Some tenderness at the shot site, but no different from a flu shot. I'll have a bone scan in October, it's July now. I feel positive, as my T score was -4 after too many years of Fosamax. I'm staying positive and don't concentrate on the 'what if.' I had to try something. I continue to walk 2 miles every day and try to lift weights. I'm 75 now, so I feel positive that I'm doing the best I can."

"I had injections from November through April and had to stop due to increasing high blood pressure. That is not listed as a side effect, however, it is closely related to some of the listed side effects. I still don’t have my blood pressure under control, and it is June. I wonder how long I’ll suffer from this side effect."

"I have just finished my last injections (12 months). I had very minor side effects, mostly site pain which was no worse than a yearly flu shot! I did get headaches which were relieved by Tylenol, but not awful and very tolerable! The first few shots I had mild nausea in the morning, but very little in later shots! I had absolutely no muscle aches or pain throughout all the shots. About 5 days after the shots, any mild side effects I had went totally away. I was terrified to start these shots after reading some of the reviews, but I am so glad I didn’t listen to them and followed through on all the shots! I have severe osteoporosis and after these shots my bone density has really improved! I am scheduled for a yearly Reclast infusion in a month which will assure that I don’t lose the bone I have gained over the past year."

"I was very remiss in not addressing my osteoporosis, and two years ago, following a fractured vertebra, my T-score for my spine was 4.3. A month ago I completed one year of Evenity injections, and my score is now 3.1. I still have osteoporosis, but it is now less serious than it was ten years ago. My scores did not improve for my hips, but did for my forearm. The only side effects I experienced were very slight discomfort at the injection site (I had the two injections in my abdomen). I went to PT, exercised regularly, and took calcium and vitamin D supplements. I will now start on Prolia. I would encourage anyone with a poor spinal T-score to try Evenity."

"I'm a 72-year-old woman who just finished the 12-month Evenity program, and I am currently transitioning to Prolia. My experience has been positive, with no noticeable side effects. From my blood work, it appears to have been working as described. My next bone scan will be a year from now, so I will not know what changes have occurred with my bone density until then."
