"I have been on Xarelto for 7 months. I had bleeding in both eyes the first month, bleeding from hemorrhoids after that, and still do. My joints and muscles hurt so bad, and it's actually hard to walk at times. I have swollen legs, feet, and hands. I do know I am overweight and 71 years old, but my blood pressure is controlled on meds. I do have afib, but I want off this terrible medication. The doctor told me they are all the same and I need to stay on it. Coumadin made me terribly sick, dizzy, and tired. I am ready to give up and just take natural thinners."

"It killed my beloved mother in July 2014, she was suddenly rushed by ambulance in the early morning hours. She had several ischemic strokes and had uncontrollable bleeding after surgery. She died due to taking Xarelto. Now I've been turned down by lawyers because the death report said she died from C.O.P.D., and I'm trying to find another law firm that will take my case. The end result is death from this bad drug."

"After starting Xarelto, I saw no change after a few days, so I headed out to my sales territory. I decided to spend the night in Chattanooga. I urinated before midnight and thought I saw a slight pink tint to my urine. I got up to urinate about 2 hours later and decided to pee in a cup. Definitely reddish. I used another cup about 4 AM, and when I got up about 5:30-6 AM, this time my urine looked like ketchup water. I canceled safety talks and headed home to see my doctor. Definitely had blood in my urine. He stopped Xarelto. Back to Coumadin and monitoring."

"Light pink bleeding from my throat and sores on tongue. Sore and cramps in feet and legs. Pink blood in nose also. Tingling in fingers. Sore arms, stiff neck. Stomach pain that goes to my back. Shortness of breath."

"I have been on Xarelto for afib for just over 1 year. Did not experience any side effects until recently, I had blood in my urine. Up to then, the degree of afib did not improve. I am assuming the blood was attributed to kidney stones, but I had none of the symptoms, e.g., no pain at all and no difficulty in urinating. My doctor told me to stop taking the Xarelto immediately, which I did, and 6 days later my urine is pale yellow and clear, and assuming it continues to be, I'll take my chances and forget about blood thinners."

"My mother was on these for 9 months. It caused her to have constant, severe diarrhea. Just yesterday, she had a major bleed while going to the toilet. She had numerous tests on her tummy troubles a few months back, and they found nothing wrong. Obviously, doctors prescribed these and couldn't be bothered reading up on the drug. She has been so sick for 6 months. Crazy."

"I have been on this drug for about 10 months. It seems to be causing some real issues both mentally and physically. I have a problem with localized pain in my shoulder, which I didn't injure. I have muscle pain in my legs and arms and muscle weakness. I used to enjoy my long walks, but now I don't have the energy or strength. I have bouts of severe itching over different parts of my body, i.e., scalp, arms, legs, abdomen, but no rash. I am also having bladder control problems. Some days I feel like I'm losing my sanity. Today is one of those days. I got up feeling like I've been run over by a truck. These days are much more frequent. I'm at the end of my rope. I'm going to speak to my doctor later today, but I have to come off this drug. My atrial fib is pretty well controlled with the drugs I've been taking, but my quality of life has nosedived with Xarelto. Can anyone relate?"

"I was started on Xarelto because of Afib. After some time, besides the bruising, the red urine, which my cardiologist dismissed as not relevant, I noticed the decreasing effect of my seizure medications. I couldn't understand why until I was told about the interaction. I stopped Xarelto."

"I'm a 50 yr old female who is still menstruating. I started this drug in the hospital, and my cycle went from 3-5 days to up to 9 days then stopped. This month, I am on day 15 of an incredibly heavy cycle. I wear two extra long overnight pads (which should last 10 hours), and I go through them in less than 2 hours. I started this drug after a mild stroke that seems to have been a by-product of A-fib. I didn't want Coumadin (aka Rat Poison) and thought out of the 3 two-year-old medicines left, this seemed to be the best for my active lifestyle. It is not. The bleeding is so heavy, I am exhausted. Pains in my feet and ankles, back pains, neck pains, and migraine-like headaches on the opposite side of my stroke-affected side. Help!"

"In my case, I believe that Xarelto keeps any injury from healing in a timely manner. A scratch that would normally disappear in a week or two lasts months for healing. It worries me, even though several doctors from different specialties have said there is no connection here."

"After being on Coumadin for 1 year, I thought I was going to go crazy with all the annoying phone calls from the office about blood testing. The doctor kept telling me the tests are necessary to prevent me from bleeding out or having another stroke. I said isn't there something different, and he referred me to talk to my PCP, who recommended Xarelto, and it has changed my life for the better. I never felt so good, and I never have to worry about blood tests or diet. Needless to say, that doctor is no longer my doctor."

"In 2010, I had a successful ablation to correct Afib. About two years ago, my cardiologist retired, and I went to a new doctor. About a year ago, he suggested I go on Xarelto as a precaution against a possible reoccurrence of Afib. Since being on Xarelto, I have experienced constant back, leg, knee, and other body pain. My doctor is adamant that I stay on this terrible drug."

"Xarelto is very effective in providing an anticoagulant effect. For me, that resulted in almost uncontrollable nosebleeds (up to 14 hours) and 3-5 hours for very minor skin scratches. But the worst outcomes were the side effects: consistent headaches; severe shortness of breath; depression; bad mood (extremely grouchy); stomach aches; and constipation. I do not recommend this medicine to anyone. Warfarin ($6.00/month) is easy to manage, and it has almost NO side effects."

"While on Xarelto, I experienced a stroke, partial loss of vision. I have atrial fibrillation. Initially, a few years ago, I was put on Coumadin. That was a hassle. Then, I was very glad when Pradaxa came out and it was prescribed. But it caused such stomach pain. I was then put on Xarelto. I took it faithfully as prescribed. I had no discomfort or side effects, but then, in December of 2016, I had the stroke. Now I am on Eliquis."

"Apparently helps my a-fib, but causes bad bruising and bleeding from minor wounds. I also have bad heartburn and take antacid frequently. This happens while I'm eating, after, and also when my stomach is empty. A friend who tried Xarelto had the same problem, which makes me think it's from the medicine, or at least it made it worse. This causes me lots of pain and discomfort, but I don't know if another blood thinner would be the same."

"74 yr. old female. Have been on Xarelto, 20 mg, for approximately 1 year. For no reason I could discern, my knee swelled up and became very painful. Eventually, I could not walk and was in severe pain. I went via emergency transport to the local emergency room. The ER doctor diagnosed me with hemarthrosis, internal bleeding into the knee joint, caused by Xarelto!!! I was never warned about internal bleeding. The package insert only mentions external bleeding. Also, the bleed seems to have been spontaneous and not caused by any injury to the knee. Very scary! I am no longer taking any blood thinner/anticoagulant. Avoid this drug."

"I wish my husband had never been prescribed Xarelto by his cardiologist in 2017. Blood clotting factors were never checked because the makers of this drug do not recommend testing. Now the dosage has been changed, but is that going to prevent brain bleeds and death? At 63 years old, his brain bleed started at his desk at work. Airlifted to the hospital and later taken off the vent with no brain activity. Can anyone answer the following questions? 1. Would it be much of an inconvenience to test patients for clotting on this medication? 2. And do cardiologists get benefits when prescribing Xarelto? 3. Has the dosage change reduced deaths from bleeds? 4. An antidote for this kind of damage is not a solution. Don’t take Xarelto!"

"Bruising is common. I have lower back soreness and right leg hip area pain. Some leg weakness in the afternoon and evening. No reason to stop the medication, in my opinion. I have had kyphoplasty and gallbladder surgery, and the medication was stopped temporarily for both. No adverse reactions."

"Why-why, for goodness' sake, is the 20 mg 'tablet' so bloody small? It is ridiculous the size and shape of it-if you drop one, good luck, and get out your magnifying glass to find it! Do you have medical engineers to design these things? If so, this one is a big mistake. I intend to ask my physician for two 10s, nice round pills these old eyes can see-even if I drop one!"

"I'm diabetic, and it's uncontrollable since taking Xarelto. I'm sure Afib symptoms are gone now, so I can't imagine a downside. I'm seeing my neurologist this week to remove me from the medication. I live in Thailand, where Xarelto is cheap without insurance."

"I’ve been on this drug since Sep 2017. Sometime in November 2017, I’ve experienced some right leg pain, posterior calf and hamstring pain while driving. I’m very active and still managed to work out almost at least 5 times a week. The pain subsided in late December 2017 but I’m still experiencing the same pain occasionally. Now I guess the drug also triggers my BPH. Any thoughts on this?"

"I had an ablation. I already had five stents. The procedure went well. The recuperation was a bear. They prescribed Xarelto. Maybe it was good to prevent clotting after the post-op. Horrible stuff. Three-dimensional dreams and not sure sometimes if I was awake or not. After 21 days, I begged to get off. The dreams and low energy continued for a few more weeks. The Doc did not want me off, it protects them from bigger problems. Back to two baby aspirin. It costs $750 for thirty if you don’t have insurance. Horrible stuff!"

"Have been taking Xarelto 20 mg for about 3 years. My hair is falling out, but the cardiologist will not agree that it is caused by the Xarelto. If this hair loss continues, I will be bald in the near future. Has anyone had this problem?"

"My husband started 20 mg of Xarelto on 12/14/10. He had a hemorrhagic stroke on 9/28/21 that was fatal from this drug. His cardiologist said that they are seeing more and more brain bleeds with this drug. At least with the older drug, warfarin, regular blood work is done to check on bleeding/clotting. Follow-up reviews show that this drug in excess of 10 mg is causing brain bleeds."

"My mom has AF and didn't take any blood thinner before. She went to the emergency room in the U.S. and the doctor prescribed this drug to her. She followed the instructions to take the medicine. About 25 days later, she got brain bleeding and woke up three weeks later after surgery. Another two weeks later, she had the second brain bleeding, and a few weeks later, she passed away. It took my mom to heaven. What should I say?"
