For Anxiety "I feel bad reading the reviews on this risperidone drug that made people feel worse. Risperidone has done wonders for me and I’ve only been on it for three months. I suffer from disassociative identity disorder and severe irritability due to autism. My irritability has only been lowered a little bit but I am no longer having disassociative spells where I’m staring at the wall for 4+ hours at a time without realizing it. I also have bipolar disorder and take a different medication for that but this in conjunction with my other medication has worked out really well. I take a very low-dose only .25 mg once a day. I didn’t think that such a small dose would do anything for me but I have absolutely noticed a difference in my behavior and actions. Like I said I feel terrible for the people who have given it bad reviews that it didn’t work for them because it is truly changed my life"

For Autism "Our 13 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD at age 6. He is now 13 and in full blown puberty. Prozac and Focalin were no longer working for him. We went to a top pediatric psychiatrist and he changed our sons diagnosis to Aspergers or now High Functioning autism. He prescribed Risperdal and told us this medication would act like "glue" and keep all the connections in his brain together. 3 days later we were in the emergency room because our son was suffering with severe dystonia. It was the scariest thing I ever witnessed. We are now working with a pediatric neurologist to find a medication that will work for him."

For Autism "My 9 year old son, who has autism, was put on risperidone about a year and a half ago after being hospitalized for aggressive and self-harming behavior. It has been very effective with the violent behavior. He is still quite argumentative and has tantrums and meltdowns occasionally but it's much better. The main side effect was weight gain due to his increased appetite. He was always famished! He gained 8-10 pounds in 2 months which is alot for a 7 year old. The Vyvance that he takes for adhd is supposed to suppress his appetite but it wasn't enough to outweigh what the risperidone was doing. After a few months his dr put him on metformin. It did the trick. He lost his added weight. The Vyvance/metformin combo balanced out the risperidone."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Bipolar Disorder "I have been taking this drug for about 5 or 6 years now and it has changed my life. I was showing all the classic signs of bipolar disorder, and after starting this, in less than a day, I was a changed person. My wife says it saved our marriage. I'm on 4 mg now, and if I miss a dose, my wife can tell right away."

For Autism "My youngest son has taken it for meltdowns for some time now. He sleeps better too. It has caused him to gain some weight. My oldest son was on ADHD medication for years, when he reached puberty it caused many problems. So the Doctor prescribed risperidone for him too, and it has helped him gain so much self control. They are both in high school and doing well."

For Depression "I have found risperidone not to work for me. I am on it for bipolar and depression and it is making my depression and episodes of depression much more intense and worse than if I was not taking it altogether. I am unhappy with my diagnosis and current treatment plan but am struggling to find a dr who will change it or get an appointment with my GP. Please be aware this medication is not for everyone and is an anti-psychotic and a pretty heavy one at that! On the other hand please be aware it would help for certain conditions just not the one I have or my mood as a person in lockdown with depression. It is much less hard that quetiapine as I had that before. I had it to treat PMDD which was the only useful time which is bipolar but other than that for everyday life it is not working or suitable for me. Please fight for your mental health, you do generally know better! Thank you for reading x"

Risperdal (risperidone) for Autism "At 0.5mg it made my mood swings and overall irritability a lot less chaotic and more manageable. It made me able to think about what I'm feeling and why. It's not perfect but it's a huge aid. For me it had certain drawbacks, like slight weight gain and oversleeping which made me look for other options."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Autism "My son has high-functioning autism, and the doctor prescribed this medication for outbursts and agitation. It did the exact opposite. He became more aggressive and physically abusive to the point that he could no longer go to school and learn anything else. It took time to gradually take him off the medication, and once we did, he was so much better. An ADHD medication worked much better."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "PROS: This medicine literally saved my life. My thoughts no longer race. I don't dwell on past events 24 hours each day. I sleep 4-6 hours a night, instead of 2-4 hours. Panic attacks are a lot less frequent and intense. It saved my marriage, renewed my self-worth, and I have hope of a future again. Cons: If I miss a dose, I know it right away. I really have to watch my diet or I gain weight like crazy; everything tastes amazing. Migraines have increased."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder about 8 months ago and placed on Risperdal after ending up in the hospital due to a nervous breakdown, 6 weeks after my diagnosis. I was prescribed 0.5 mg in the morning and 1.0 mg in the evenings, but I felt like a zombie. It did curb the severe mood swings, and I also gained about 10 pounds in the first month. I didn't like feeling disconnected from the world and not being able to focus or concentrate, so I independently reduced my evening dose to 0.75 mg. I immediately felt better. I'm still struggling with a low sex drive, depression and have a few moments of hypomania (restlessness, agitation, "geeked up"), so now my doctor wants me to go on Depakote 500 mg twice a day instead."

Risperdal M-Tab (risperidone) for Depression "At one mg, it completely removed all signs of depression and the side effects and feelings of lack of control associated with the depression. Although similar to moving into a new house, it was easy to get used to it and greatly simplified daily routine for the most part. Does not help with PMS associated lack of concentration but enhances concentration overall at this low dosage and makes it easy to focus on relationship problems also, although no drug can change the other person. Risperdal (risperidone) "This medication has saved my child’s life. He has no diagnosis but he has always been an extremely angry, irritable and withdrawn kid. Despite extensive testing, we haven’t been able to find a medical cause. He has now been on .25 milligrams of this medication for 2 months along with the same SSRI he’s been on for a year. As soon as we added this medication he was able to get back into a regular classroom at school. He started talking to us, joking around and asking us if he can have friends over. He has become such a loving and sweet kid who laughs and has fun. The teachers and therapists we work with are all so thrilled with the positive changes. His dose is very low so the only side effect seems to be a slight increase in his appetite. But even at this low dose we are seeing huge changes. For the first time, our son actually seems happy."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Bipolar Disorder "My husband takes this to control his anger, and as long as he takes it as prescribed, it works great. If he misses a dose, I can tell pretty quickly. Also, he has to watch not to get overheated because then he has a fainting spell and has had a seizure after fainting as well while on this medicine."

Risperdal Consta (risperidone) for Schizophrenia "I've been on this injection for nearly 3 years, at first it seemed like it wasn't working and after going off my medications once before I didn't find that there was much of a change but after 3 months or so I started sleeping at night peacefully without the constant confusion and voices in my head. I also had started doing a better job at work and was able to focus on doing simple tasks which then seemed impossible."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Bipolar Disorder "This medicine was prescribed to me for bipolar disorder, along with irritability problems, serious anger was becoming a problem. I read these reviews after being prescribed and I can honestly say that I was not one who felt its benefits immediately. This medicine takes 3 to 4 weeks to fully affect you. So far the main thing I have noticed is that I feel more balanced, and have not had an over the top anger explosion. This medicine in combination to my others seems to be helping overall. Everyone's own body is a chemistry set, you just have to try things in combination with others and see if it helps. "

For Anxiety "I was given 0.5mg on top of Sertraline 100mg. With no benefit seen I was gradually raised over 2 weeks to 1.5mg... After 3 days I had a racing heart, akathisia and attempted suicide, by taking all the remaining Risperidone. Someone called 911. I ate charcoal and spent a day in the hospital. This drug made me feel terrible, in so many ways. It is indescribable. I was doing the shuffle walk as I paced around in anxiety. The way you see people walking in movies during mental hospital scenes. It was a nightmare."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Schizoaffective Disorder "I've been on this for three years and love it. No delusions, no paranoia. Side effects are non existent for me. No weight gain. I'm never tired. I sleep 6-7 hours of sleep each night and feel fine. Since being on Risperdone I've run two half marathons, work 40 hours per week and haven't had symptoms in over a year."

For Depression "I've been taking risperidone for about a year and a half now. I take 1 mg at night and 0.5 mg as needed in the morning. It has been amazing. I have major depressive disorder and severe generalized anxiety. I've tried tons of different antidepressants over the years with no working results. Trying risperidone was like night and day immediately. For the first time, my head was clear of miserable intrusive thoughts and my anxiety levels were much lower, albeit still there. It does not make me sleepy and I have not put on any weight. I sometimes have trouble losing weight but I think that is more due to my lack of commitment than the medication. My sex drive has been significantly reduced but I think the trade-off is worth it."

Risperdal (risperidone) for Schizophrenia "This has helped a lot for my daughter's hallucinations. She was not diagnosed with schizophrenia, so her hallucinations are related to either her epilepsy or something else. There have been a couple of times where she stopped taking it because she felt better, but then the hallucinations would come back. She had to go on the highest dose after she stopped taking it the first time, so if you find this works for you or a loved one, just make sure they don't stop abruptly."

For Bipolar Disorder "This is my first time taking Risperidone 0.5g for Bipolar Schizoaffective Disorder, and it's my first week. I have always been 100% against medication but it came to the point where I could no longer suffer alone. My mind has now changed about medication. I was concerned with bad side effects, but all I had was a feeling of slight anxiety and heightened senses days 4 and 5 only, but I pushed through and I'm fine. Although it's early days yet, I am very happy! My mind has stopped racing, I am not thinking people are judging or talking behind my back, I feel relaxed, can handle crowds and I'm not angry or have raging irritability, and better sleep. I'll give a new review within a month, but I should have done this sooner."
