"Started medication for IBS three days ago and have had significant improvement. It's amazing, actually was able to go to a restaurant today and not worry re having to rush to bathroom there or dash to one after leaving. Only concern is reading re the limited amount of time it works for. Does anyone know why you can only be retreated twice? Have other users found the time estimates for improvement to be accurate?"

"It's a mask for a deeper-rooted issue within your body. I hesitantly took it, and it turned my IBS-D into IBS-C. However, it improved my quality of life a lot. I no longer had to run to the bathroom all of the time. It lasted about 5 months and my symptoms are starting to show again. If you're ok with having to do this med over and over, this is a good fix for you but it won't ever solve the problem. I would see a Naturopath or Holistic Dr instead of taking this and get to the root of your digestion issue. Have them run some tests like for parasites, food intolerances, parasites, etc. Good luck and please know you're not alone!"

"So about 6 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS/ acid reflux and was put on Librax and Omeprozole MD. It kept me out of the hospital (for the most part) but still left me in pain. About two years ago I quit smoking and took out gluten and dairy from my life and everything was awesome! BUT THEN...about 2 months ago the pain came back the way it had years ago but 10 fold. So I went to a new GI and he had tested me for something I never heard of, SIBO and it came back positive. He immediately prescribed me this medication. This is my second day on it and all I can say is I pray it works. I have read some reviews speaking of headaches and cramping, I have experienced both however like I said it’s only my second day on it. I hope it works and fast because I am typing this while hunched over in pain."

"6th day with difficulty noted only when I eat high fodmaps foods. Taking this for SIBO- methane positive. A few difficult times but directly related to foods I’m eating. Possibly “die off” symptoms..... if I’d been unaware of this, I would’ve believed I should stop the meds. As it is, I think it’s a sign that it’s working. Although physical symptoms have been uncomfortable, my mood and acne have been under control. I don’t know how I’ll feel after this but tolerating it well so far. I feel like I’m waging war on the bad bacteria trying to hide out on my gut lining "

"I was diagnosed with IBS-Diarrhea by my PCP. Recently changed my pcp as old guy retired. I was using a lot of OTC products for my IBS-D which was also diagnosed by new PCP. He started me on rifaximin 550 two times a day for 14 days and this worked wonders. It’s expensive but I got a coupon and saved money Thanks Valeant but I still think u should decrease the price of it."

"I tried with Rifaximin at the suggestion of family who did not feel like my natural functional Healthcare practitioner was helping me out very much. It was totally against her philosophy of treatment but I jumped for it anyway. It was a mistake. For the first few days on the drug it did seem to calm down my system a bit. But now one and a half months after using it my bloating is as bad as it has ever been. Even the foods that before I took it did not bother me now do bother me. I was making slow but steady progress using Standard Process supplements, staying away from starches & fodmaps, & practicing proper food combining b4 using Rifax.. Would not suggest this unless you have exhausted all other options."

"I needed this medicine for by son who is 12 and suddenly had a diarrhea attacks that would not go away. The doctor prescribed it but sadly the insurance wold not cover it. I didn't know what to do. I then went to foreign pharmacies and found it. The price here is crazy for this medicine. They charge over $2000 for this. I ordered 100 pills for $50.00 + $30.00 in shipping. I couldn't believe it. The drug works good so far and is pure and made by a reputable drug manufacturer there. It has taken away my son's diarrhea and I hope it doesn't come back. He hasn't been able to have a normal life. He can not study or concentrate because his stomach hurts so bad."

"Got rifaximin prescribed for SIBO without an official diagnosis. No testing was done for SIBO— just the doctors assumption from the symptoms I was having. I took it for 3 days (3x a day) and I HAD to quit. The stomach pain/cramping is unbearable. I have bouts of nausea constantly and I have more diarrhea than ever. I wasn’t even suffering from diarrhea before this drug. Pretty disappointed and upset. I hope these side-effects are not long-term, considering I cut my dosage short — for obvious reasons."
