For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I thought when this came out this was going to be my hope . Unfortunately it didn’t work after two weeks I had to take citrate of Magnesia to empty out . This medication is horrible an causes awful painful gas and epressed mood . My Gastroenterologists refused to give me Zelnorm because I have Controlled Palpitations no heart disease she said it would work. So my last option is colon removal because I can’t live like this anymore using ducolax and bowel preps every three days ."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "In 2020 I was hospitalized for an intestinal blockage. At that time they did not want to do surgery because it was a functional issue so the protocol was NPO for several days. After I left the hospital they put me on the Motegrity 2 mg once a day I’ve taken it for two years and I’ve gained over 25 pounds. It does work in the beginning for motility but then after a year it stopped really working I don’t know why bother staying on it for as long as I did it because the only thing that wound up happening is getting a tremendous amount of weight and becoming depressed from it"

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Motegrity does work, but the effect on me is harsh and I have many side effects. I took 2mg about six hours ago. It hit within 15 minutes. Since then I have gone to the bathroom about 15 times. I didn't make it to the toilet a few times. I'm experiencing racing heart, pounding headache, a jittery/shaky feeling, and intense nausea. I'm dizzy and weak and achy. I take many other meds for other conditions and for all I know they've left my body. There's no way I could deal with this every day. Not sure if I'll try it again, definitely not anytime soon."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I am a Registered/Licensed Clinical Dietitian/Nutritionist. S/P SIBO treatment with Xifaxin and Neomycin. Medical GI History: Viberzi for several years for IBS-D, stress, bloating, pain in left upper quadrant. Symptoms switched to IBS-C, flatulence, increase in body temperature, CIC, Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance, SIBO (methane). Made adjustments to diet (higher fiber, gluten-free), increased hydration, Miralax, Mg Oxide, Stool Softener, Herbal Motility med (Ginger/Artichoke) with little result in motility. Tried Prucalopride 1mg first dose post meal. Symptoms included headache, bloating, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue. Will report symptoms and results to GI prescriber. Plan to divide dose to 0.5mg per day."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "After suddenly developing abdominal pain and infrequent BMs 4 years ago without consistent relief from diet changes, or OTC products, Or Amitiza and Linzess, Im trying this (and one other which is less effective). This “worked” initially with soft and loose stool, lots of gas, cramping. Added my OTC again but ineffective. Tried the other sample drug, even less effective Back on Motegrity, same experience and have concluded its exacerbating neck, & back pain to intolerable level, possible wrist and ankle pain, fatigue and the blues. Totally interfering with sleep. The only temporary relief I get is swimming or exercising."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I was originally given Motegrity without trying the others because I had been following all the lifestyle advice typically given to start off. I had printouts of my daily meals, water consumption, fiber intake, macros. I was also already on a modified diet to to allergens. (I like data.) And it was clear movement for water like linzess wasn’t gonna do it. The first two months, I had to take it with Miralax, 1000 mg of magnesium, and senna at 8.6mg? It took all four to go. I went every day but it was explosive and miserable. So she reduced it down to 1mg and now things are manageable (every two days ish), but I’m constantly boiling. Y’all I’m not at menopause age yet. I shouldn’t be sweating like this. But I’ve been in undershirts in 50 degree weather and I sweat enough to completely stink in a few hours. I also regained all the sudden weight I lost prior to Motegrity in about two months (50 lbs, about 1/4 of my body). Im also queasy all the time."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "My daughter has autism and has had constipation all her life. She has always been on medication for her autism. Motegrity has her making a complete bowel movements but her behavior has become erratic. She is anxious and is having compulsive behaviors. I'm going to stop motegrity for a few days and see how she acts. If her behavior improves I know it's the motegrity. A shame because it is helping her. I'm only giving her 1mg."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have been on Motegrity for over a year and it worked great for awhile and lately I have had problems with feeling jittery anxious and depressed. Feeling jittery and anxious is the worse. I have gastroparesis and also on Famotidine Promethazine Lansoprazole and Motillium so it may be a combination or the Motegrity"

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Worked for 3 days and then back to constipation. Also seemed to not mix well with my anti-seizure drugs. My previous seizure drug had caused a particular type of seizure and depression. I haven’t had those problems since I switched off that drug but experienced both in the past week so I am going to discontinue use."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I'm on day 3 and so far it works great. Linzess and Trulance worked a week and stopped, so the jury is out for the long term. The only side effects I have experienced are mild dizziness and back pain. And one strange one, which may be the cause of the loss of appetite. Things that should not taste salty do. That started today. Grapes, French toast so far. I hope that goes away with time."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Motegrity worked as soon as I started it. It is the only medication that has ever worked, it changed my life. I can eat regularly. I've stopped taking harsh laxatives. I'm regular and comfortable. Best medicine ever!"

Motegrity (prucalopride) "It has allowed me to feel hungry on a daily basis—I never thought that would be possible before. It also reduced the frequency and duration of my nausea. Personally, I've only thrown up once as a result of my gastroparesis, so I can't speak on any change there. It has some recurring adverse effects for me, such as bloating and abdominal pain. I also had dizziness, headaches, fatigue, loose stools, and severe abdominal pain in the first 1-2 weeks of taking it. Also, I've only needed a 0.5 mg dose so far; I cut the 1 mg pills in half."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I’ve had a lifetime of chronic severe constipation from Ehlers Danlos Hypermobility Syndrome and as well as Transverse Myelitis. I’ve been on daily senna, Linaclotide, as well as lactulose for over 10 years and still don’t feel my bowel emptying. And I have such a high fiber diet but still not enough relief. I tried prucalopride only for a day a few years ago when my health was bad and at the time couldn’t tolerate the headache. But this time I read reviews from other people which suggested drinking a coffee first thing in the morning to help with the headache, and after a couple of days it was really okay. I’ve been on 1mg for just a week and have been going to the toilet every day with just prucalopride and senna, giving up the other laxatives. It’s meant to take longer to work and I’m also supposed to go up to 2mg, but I’m very happy so far with the lack of side effects and also how well it’s working."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I've been taking this prucalopride for about 3 months for CIC. The first 2 months were without incident. I was having small bowel movements consistently each day and feeling fine. Then I was diagnosed with GERD, gastritis, and esophagitis. My stomach was hurting constantly and I was always nauseated. Now, I'm down 14 pounds from the constant inability to eat and the nausea. I also have devastating fatigue and headaches. I thought this was all due to other factors but after reading reviews, I'm thinking the Motegrity is causing the nausea, headache, and fatigue problem. Gonna stop taking it to see if I can get some relief and just work on the GERD and gastritis without constantly feeling like a need to puke."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I was on Linzess for several months. It completely took away the abdominal pain and for several weeks I had severe diarrhea. Then, it settled down and things seemed to improve but a month later, I was having maybe 1 bowel movement a month. I switched to motegrity, it's been 2 weeks of misery. Headaches everyday, abdominal pain, and bowel movements are more frequent but painful. I'm so disappointed. I will stick it out for awhile longer and hope it improves."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "After lengthy ordeal when my insurance wouldn't cover, I finally obtained Motegrity via patient program. I had been using Senna and some Colace for my neurogenic bowel condition. Senna had/has been causing significant gastro discomfort and incomplete empty has been major problem. For my circumstance, Motegrity was an epic fail. Immediate lethargy, mental haze, constant urination, and even worse than these, it actually seemed to stall bowel activity even more. Candidly, my body interpreted it as poison. Not sure where I go from here but it was wasted time and effort and quite discouraging."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I wanted to share my story as I just took my first dose of this medication tonight. I'm crossing my fingers because nothing else has been effective, and I am currently down to 107 pounds at a height of 5'5". During the lockdown, I was exposed to toxins in a home I had recently moved into. After four months of being there, I experienced a wide range of symptoms, including severe Gastric Emptying Delay and dysfunction in my colon. Whenever I eat, I suffer from severe consequences. At the moment, I'm on my third round of Xifaxan, which costs $2500 for each two-week treatment, and my gastroenterologist suspects it might be Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) as well. Xifaxan helps with reducing inflammation and bloating, but unfortunately, my colon isn't improving. Currently, the only thing I am able to eat without major issues is eggs, and even then, I have to use a daily enema. I also have Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) and have undergone several surgeries involving scopes, biopsies of the esophageal area, and laparoscopic exploratory surgery. As I enter my third year with these conditions, they are getting worse."

Motegrity (prucalopride) for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have Gastroparesis and have been taking Motegrity for two months now. I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work, I thought it would help relieve constipation and make it easier to go to the bathroom. I am suffering for up to 4 days not being able to have a bowel movement. My doctor thinks that I might have a lot of toxicity in my stomach and I have to take a breathing test. I also suffer from headaches and did not realize until I read all the posts that headaches are common with this."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I suffer from a range of gastro issues, alongside a damaged ileum intestinal valve due to an autoimmune disease. I have one of the most 'sluggish' bowels my GI doctor has ever seen. Managing my condition has always been difficult, diet can only do so much. Laxatives make me sick and ruin my gut. Then came Prucalopride. It works without fail every time, and boy does it work. It doesn't make me feel sick like other laxatives, and doesn't cause that feeling of 'chemical gut'. It does of course cause some fluid swelling while it works. But once the 'deed is done', I feel like a new person. I don't recommend taking it at night, however, as personally, that causes some really uncomfortable stomach aches. You want to take it on an empty stomach or before food to have the best effect, and to get it 'over and done with' so you can get on with your day (be near a toilet!)"

"I am on the fourth day of 1mg for Gastroparesis, and it is BAD!!! Now I am normally sick everyday with multiple illnesses, but this is horrible. 1st day I took it within 1 hour massive headache, severe watery diarrhea like 10 times in one hour, heart pounding so fast, had to take gravol. Have been unable to even leave my house for 4 days now from these side effects. My dr thought it would improve my GERD, absolutely did not!!! I'll try one more day and then stopping. I would only use this if its life or death situation! I normally will have a regular bowel movement from a cup of strong coffee without these awful side effects!!!"

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have tried a variety of medications. Lubiprostone (Amitiza) works the best, but it still wasn't enough. I also still use Miralax almost daily and a stool softener once or twice a week. Adding prucalopride to these has helped to give me regular, predictable bowel movements. I take 1/2 pill (1 mg) once a day or every other day. So I'm pleased with how it helps with constipation. But I am minimizing the dose because it affects me like an SSRI antidepressant, which I've been on before and really dislike. Like SSRI's, prucalopride increases seratonin, which is helpful in stimulating bowel contractions, but unfortunately also affects the brain. I feel spacey, emotionally vulnerable, anxious and sometimes depressed. Prucalopride is not covered by my insurance, but I was able to obtain it affordably through an overseas pharmacy."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I found it to be the most helpful out of all medications tried. My dose is 2 mg, it does not help with obstruction but with regular constipation, it is the first time in years I have had a fully formed soft stool. Make sure you eat before taking it. I did get very bad nausea taking it on an empty stomach."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "It took around a week to get over the side effects. I’m on 1mg of Prucalopride and I experienced minor headaches (treated with coffee) After about 2 weeks, I started having multiple bowel movements and things couldn’t be any better. I finally feel like I have a normal toilet life. I’ve read many reviews and feel like people who start off on 2mg experience far worse side effects but it’s extremely worth it once the side effects subside."

"I have had Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) for around 10 years which has worsened since having kids. I took the 2mg dose as prescribed by my gastro consultant before breakfast this morning and within 45 minutes I was in a lot of pain and had diarrhea, headaches, and dizziness. The effects eventually wore off after around 4 hours but they were pretty extreme. After having dinner tonight I had extreme pain in my lower gut that felt like stabbing soreness, I also had gas, and bowel movements, and couldn't stand up straight from the pain. Not nice at all and will not be taking it anymore."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "Hi. I’ve had constipation since I was a child. Post-birthing two kids, at age 47, and as I enter perimenopause, it’s gotten notably worse. I have a diagnosed slow colon. The only thing that’s worked for me is Chinese herbs daily and acupuncture monthly. Cost prohibitive, though. Hopeful for this drug, but it steals my sleep, makes my teeth and head hurt, and makes me anxious and depressed when I take it for longer than a week. I have taken it two days in a row for relief, and I’m a mess. Anxious and sleepless. So, it’s not for everyone. Back to senna."
