Propranolol "I was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia back in the 70s, but it was 'paroxysmal,' meaning unpredictable. I was also diagnosed with anxiety attacks. The Inderal was critical to my improvement, and as life went on, I found that I was low in calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Supplementing those things basically expunged the tachycardia. If I feel it coming on, I increase those things and use the Inderal, and it goes away. It also helped with the anxiety attacks. So everyone is different...and diet and supplements are also critical to good health."

"I'm 28 years old, developed Supraventricular Tachycardia when I was pregnant at 24 years old due to complications added from COPD. It's taken 4 years to find a doctor that took me seriously about having an arrhythmia and to give me medication because my Supraventricular Tachycardia is paroxysmal, but it messes me up just the same. Doctors in South Africa are pretty useless, don't even bother with government hospitals, they ignore you. I've been taking Indoblok 10 mg x2 day. It keeps my heart rate slow and steady, I don't have to worry so much anymore about physical activity suddenly pushing up my heart rate. So far, the only problems I have with it are constantly feeling sleepy throughout the day and super drowsy in the mornings, and if I accidentally miss even one dose, then my arrhythmia immediately comes back with a bang."

Propranolol "Doc prescribed this medication to control my high heart rate after a 3-day hospitalization due to supraventricular tachycardia. I had horrible side effects. Terrible insomnia, sometimes awake for 24 hours. Palpitations. Heavy congested feeling in chest. Anxiety. I was only on it for 10 days! Switched to metoprolol, and after 2 days started to feel tons better!!!"

"Though put on propranolol to slow my heart rate (which was very high due to hyperthyroidism), they also have the nice side effect of actually making me feel less panicked. When my heart is racing for physiological reasons and I have a reason to feel panicky, it feels like a panic attack. Propranolol brings everything down a notch by slowing the heart, which in turn brings calm to the mind. Very good stuff! Oh, and living in the UK means that at most I would pay £8.60 ($11.36 US) every two months when I pick up 168 x 10 mg tablets, though in practice, as I am poor (income around $8,000 US per annum), it's free for me on the NHS. Ah, the wonderful NHS."

"80 mg twice daily. When taken regularly and at the right time of the day/night, propranolol is awesome. Really helps calm heart/nerves/brain activity. The only drawback is that when you skip a dose (forget or going out), you will have a rough next 24 hours, even if you take your next dose as normal."

"I used this for several years. Of the three medications I used, it had the mildest side effects. They were: constipation, runny nose, peripheral edema, and insomnia. Of these, insomnia was the worst, followed by runny nose and constipation. The edema was mild compared to Verapamil, which gave me severe edema. I had to take 50 mg/day before my tachy came under control. Even then, control tended to be intermittent. Some days good, some days poor. The difficulty was I had to take 10 mg five times a day. If I missed a dose (not uncommon), I would have a tachy attack."
