"I have been taking promethazine for a few years now. It is the only thing that helps with my nausea and vomiting. I have intractable vomiting episodes, and it is the only thing that works. It totally subsides the nausea. It does not make me drowsy like most say, so I can function throughout the day. Miracle medication."

"Absolutely the best thing for n/v when taken correctly. I have had Zofran, which for me did absolutely nothing. When I am throwing up, I want to go to sleep. I know it is caustic when given incorrectly into the vein. When mixed properly and administered slowly, it is a wonderful drug for N/V."

"Was given this in college when I was in the ER with dehydration from a stomach bug. Eased the nausea and knocked me out—a bonus, as I didn’t really want to be awake while I felt so sick. It worked well for me as needed for nausea for several years, but about 5 or 6 years ago, it suddenly stopped working. I’d be heaving my guts out and falling asleep on the bathroom floor at the same time. I take Zofran for nausea now. I still keep the promethazine around for the sedative properties, though. I just take it for a couple of nights every once in a while to get my sleep patterns back in order."

Promethazine "In preparation for a colonoscopy, I was given this medicine in case I became nauseated. I took 1 tablet as I was feeling a bit nauseous after taking the 'cleansing' drug prescribed by my doctor, and within 15 minutes, the nausea subsided. Then I fell asleep for several hours. Does what it is supposed to."

"I've been taking Phenergan for years now. It's a miracle medicine. I tried Zofran, and it didn't work at all, in fact, it made me get sicker. I suffer from extreme vomiting in all of my pregnancies. My doctor prescribed Phenergan to me, and I'm so thankful for that. I love this medicine."

"I have trouble with nausea and vomiting, as well as severe coughing, every spring or when the weather gets crazy. Six years ago, the doctor gave me some promethazine, and after a few days, the coughing was just about gone. I tried everything, and this really helped, but be prepared to sleep."

Promethazine "I just had a bilateral mastectomy due to breast cancer a month ago and will never forget the huge injection of Phenergan the nurse plunged into my I.V. when I came out of the anesthesia and said, 'I'm going to throw up!' It halted my nausea IMMEDIATELY - wish I'd known about this stuff years ago! It would have saved me after a few of my surgeries. Now, they've put me on Tamoxifen, which is making me incredibly nauseated. When my doctor's office called me the other day to let me know they had called in an anti-nausea medicine for me at the pharmacy, I was overjoyed to find out it was Phenergan. Sure enough, it's working great. Last night I had my first enjoyable evening without nausea since starting the Tamoxifen."

"I've had horrible non-stop nausea and vomiting during my pregnancy, and after being prescribed this, it gets rid of it 100%. I tried taking 1/2 the first few times, but it makes me SO tired I can barely function, and it's kind of depressing. At that dose, it makes me sleep the whole day away, makes me forgetful, and it makes it kind of hard to talk normally. So I switched to a quarter of a tablet, and that works for me. I try to only take it when I really need it."

Promethazine "In 2015, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and had emergency surgery to save my life. Seven years later, I have ups and downs with flares and how it makes me feel. Mainly, it’s nausea. So, my doc prescribed promethazine (Phenergan) to help, and boy, does it. I can be sick and not want to eat to keep weight on. But after one or two, I can eat anything."

"I was taking this because I have nausea from my flu. It's actually quite helpful. I can't vomit. LOL. Although, it really does make you more sensitive to the sun and extremely sleepy. I suggest you take an extra day off from work or school so you know the effects."

"I've been on promethazine for about 2 years, and it is the only medicine I've ever taken that actually works for nausea. I also take tramadol, which has a bad interaction with promethazine, so I only take it at night, as it also makes you sleepy, which could be a bad thing if you needed to take one early. But 1 25mg tab shouldn't make you too drowsy."

Promethazine "Second trimester of pregnancy and had lost 30 lbs due to hyperemesis. None of the other nausea meds were working, they even gave me suppositories. I was admitted to the hospital, and I ended up on an IV drip of Zofran for a couple of days to give me some relief. Once they took me off the drip, I was scheduled to get the Zofran regularly. One particular nurse was terrible about giving me my medication on time, and I got so sick they had to look for an alternative. She gave me Phenergan, which made me drowsy, uncoordinated, disoriented, and gave me restless leg for a while. That experience was terrifying. When the doctors came in to check on me, they told me that I was given too big of a dose, so they were going to try it again at half a dose. That half dose was AMAZING!!! It took away the nausea immediately and allowed me to sleep comfortably. That became my regular nausea med for the rest of the hyperemesis, and I was given a prescription to use at home as needed. It saved my life."

Promethazine "I suffer from migraines and frequently have extreme nausea and vomiting. Since I can't keep my migraine medicine down (Zomig) at times like these, I have to be taken to the emergency room for shots for pain and nausea. The last time I went, they gave me a prescription for Phenergan. I didn't know how I would manage to keep it down if I did need it. I thought that was odd, but since the bad migraines usually come in threes, I had a chance to try it the next day. It was great! I could keep the Zomig down. I got a little rest too."

"I suffered from food poisoning, and was throwing up constantly. However, after taking this medicine, I was able to keep food down, and it really helped with the vomiting. It is a powerful medicine and will make you sleepy. Use with caution during daytime."

"Promethazine is a histamine blocker. 25 mg is an average dose for adults. Can also be taken with most pain medicines such as Vicodin, Toradol, tramadol, NSAID types (Advil, Celebrex, Aleve). Please check with a doctor before combining medicines. Makes you a little tired, but not bad. Some people report promethazine also works for anxiety and stress."

"I've been struggling with chronic nausea for a year now, as well as an extreme fear of vomiting and anxiety nausea, which I was happily surprised to see a lot of other people who took this medicine said it was a lifesaver for that. I had such high hopes for this medicine, but unfortunately, it almost ended in a trip to the ER. Within three hours of taking it, I felt extremely drunk, hollow, tingly, like my arms weren't attached to my body, heart palpitations, which of course only triggered a panic attack and made it worse. Oh, and it literally didn't even touch my nausea. :( Needless to say, that was my first and last dose!"

"I occasionally become very nauseous, mostly from too much heat (over 85 degrees). This medicine does wonders for me in a very short period. Rarely do I require more than one (1) tablet per episode. I am very happy with results over the last two (2) years."

"I just had a major spine surgery (10-level spinal fusion with rods and screws) to fix my scoliosis. I was under general anesthesia for 5 hours. I'm almost 3 weeks post-op now, and this nausea medicine has been a lifesaver since day 1. I don't know if my problems are still from anesthesia or from the post-op pain medicines, but this nausea is awful and promethazine takes it right out. (Just be willing to nap)."

"My doctor prescribed it when I had my wisdom teeth removed. But even after that, I was nauseated every time I ate, so depending on how bad it was, I would take the Phenergan. It would help a lot and put me to sleep. Only one time it took longer than expected. But overall, it's very good."

"I used to take Zofran and personally felt the effects a lot quicker and took care of nausea better, but because of other meds I take, it can cause bad reactions. They put me on Promethazine as needed for nausea from opiate meds or severe migraines. This doesn't work quick and doesn't work that great, but I guess it's better than vomiting."

Promethazine "I use Phenergan for nausea. I take 25 mg to 50 mg. More effective than Zofran, which doesn’t work on me. It causes a bit of tiredness, but not the putting me to sleep type—just relaxes me, which is appreciated when I have nausea."

"I felt like I had been drugged. It made me pass out for 10 hours, I felt like I couldn't move after waking up. I had to force myself to throw up in order to feel better, and it made me irrationally angry, followed immediately by uncontrollable tears. I only took it once and threw it away. It gets the rating it does because it kicked my nausea in the butt. Unfortunately, it also kicked me in the butt."

"I absolutely live by promethazine. I keep it on hand when I'm nauseated. It's such a versatile medication. It sedates you, but not in the way that benzodiazepines or narcotics do. Lastly, whenever I go out drinking, I take this at the end of the night alongside a bottle or two of water. I wake up the next day not hungover or nauseated! It's a fabulous hangover 'cure'!! ;)"

"My doctor gave it to me for morning sickness, and it seems like it makes it worse. They gave me 25 mg. I took it 3 times and threw up each time and only wanted to sleep. After reading people mention they took a 10 mg dose, I broke my pill in half, thinking maybe the dose is too high because I don't take medicine like that. So far, I haven't really felt too nauseous, but will keep monitoring it. Glad I looked at other people's results with the medicine."

"I have taken 25 mg promethazine for a few years now. I don’t take it every night, but the nights I have it are a godsend. I have gastroparesis, and so I'm nauseous all the time. I also have bad insomnia and usually bad stomach flares during the night, and this saves it. The only downside to this med is that you will wake up VERY tired usually and maybe dry mouth. It takes a bit to fully wake up. Also, after I take it, I notice myself being lowkey grumpy and irritable. But, I guess it’s better than nausea, insomnia, and throwing up! I will take it!"
