Promethazine "Almost magic, treating insomnia, it works better than my Ambien, and after waking up, I won't discover I have emptied the cookie jar or fridge like has happened on Ambien a few times. The downside of Phenergan is how long it works. Yes, the next morning there is some lingering fatigue, but it fades, and coffee clears that fast. For nausea, which I get a lot, it also helps without giving you the gift of constipation like Zofran does. Phenergan gets an 'A' rating in my book."

Promethazine "This is my magic pill. I suffer from vertigo, chronic spinal pain, sleeplessness, mild depression because of the spinal pain, and usually I get sick to my stomach with even one aspirin. I take 1/2 of one pill of this every night before bed and sleep like a baby and awake feeling rested, happy, and nausea-free. I hope the vertigo is gone too but haven't taken this long enough to know about that. I take small doses of everything because I feel the effects of any medicine very strongly. WHY hasn't a doctor offered this to me before?"

"I came across this by accident, and after two tablets, all my medical ailments disappeared (anxiety, stress, and IBS-D). Off diazepam and Imodium now. Amazing, after 40 years of misery, that I can now enjoy life. Plus, no sleeping tablets now either --- result!!!"

Promethazine "I've had trouble sleeping and waking up all night for years, tried every natural sleep aid and none work. I won't ever try prescription sleeping pills. I was told about this OTC med, and they really help. I'm sleeping for longer and not waking. There have been no side effects, so far, so good."

Promethazine "My sleep is terrible. Phenergan helped, but it made me anxious and shivery if I didn't take it and jump into bed straight away to settle. I'd sleep well but wake the next day feeling like I'd been hit by a truck and low in mood. It does help with sleep, but it's not for me. Back to insomnia for me."

"I have been taking Promethazine 25 mg tablets as needed for nausea for about 5 years. 1 pill would completely take away my nausea, even if I had the flu. However, the first time taking 1 pill knocked me out. You can build up a tolerance fairly quickly if you take them daily. I also have taken 1 to 2 pills to sleep through the night if I'm off work the next day because they make me groggy for a few hours the next morning. They don't make me feel 'out of it' like Xanax, and I have never developed any type of addiction to them either."

Promethazine "This does the job for stressful periods of insomnia, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you have something important to wake up for the next morning - one 25 mg pill makes me feel drowsy for hours after waking."

Promethazine "I had taken 25 mg at 10:00 PM to help me sleep. At 2 AM, I took another because I was still awake! Now, at 3:30 AM, I am still awake. I am drowsy, but my whole body feels weird, kind of an irritating sensation, it's awful. I am going to have a cup of tea (caffeine) to see if it will counteract this horrible weird sensation. No more Phenergan for me, that's for sure. I feel I have to move around all the time."

"I took this tablet, promethazine, today for light sedation. My GP prescribed 50 mg. There was no effect the first 20 minutes, but after an hour, it knocked me out until the next day. Still felt very drowsy. Did the job, but think I will take half from now on."

Promethazine "Only thing that helps me sleep. I cut the 25 mg in half, and that helps me settle down. I also combine that with 0.5 mg of Klonopin. I am 77 years old and have suffered with insomnia for many, many years. I do not do well with antidepressants, so I avoid them. Wish I could forgo Klonopin, but I have been on it for 10 years. Should have never started any mind-controlling drug."

"I'm a 42-year-old man with no health problems. I use 50 mg for sleep, if stressed from work, about twice a week. It puts me to sleep in 90 minutes; once I fall asleep, I'm out until my cat wakes me up 9 hours later, or my alarm rings. That said, it does leave me with a bit of a hangover, but that is nowhere near as bad as waking up after a night of tossing and turning, and it passes after about three hours of being awake. I estimate the sedative effects are present for 12 hours after the initial onset. A word of caution there - I do not drive a vehicle to go to work, and I don't operate machinery; if I did, this drug would not be an ideal choice for me. Side effects were pretty much unnoticeable, maybe just a touch of dry mouth, about a 1 out of 5; and next day drowsiness about a 2 out of 5, (where 0 = none, 5 = severe.) As a sleep aid, the thing I like the most about it is the fact that it lets me sleep for 9+ straight hours if I need to recover from stresses."

Promethazine "Phenergen is the only medication I can use to help me sleep that works. I can't use it every night, as it stops working within a few days of continued use, so I can only use it every now and then when my insomnia is really bad. The major downside is it makes me very depressive and anxious for 2 days after I've taken it. I cry a lot and lose all my self-esteem. It's a really rough time. If my insomnia wasn't so severe, I probably wouldn't touch the stuff. On another note, it's amazing for allergies and hay fever. Again, I just wish it didn't affect my mood."

"Works great for me. I try to take a 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet around 7 p.m. It has a huge effect and stops palpitations. I do feel a little down the next day until 12 ish, but well worth taking! Take early!"

Promethazine "Started taking this about a year ago. It worked okay, but gave me awful restless leg syndrome. Did not take it for a while, then started again. Worked okay for sleep, but I felt short-tempered and low mood. It is worth a try, as everyone reacts differently to it."

"25 mg dosage to aid sleep. Does not make me tired even taking 2 hrs before. Hit and miss with sleeping longer but sleep periods shrinking again the longer I'm on it. Can't really say it is working for me."

"Promethazine was prescribed twice to me for mild sedation by my neurological doctor. I tried it in doses between 10 mg and higher. This doesn't make me drowsy unless I'd had pain also and taken an opioid with it. The only effect I received was the taste of it. The second time it was given to me instead of zopiclone. Still, no effect. I tried it once as a treatment for nausea; 40 mg. didn't work."

Promethazine "I use it mainly while traveling. I take it when I know my mind is restless and a sleepless night looms ahead. It knocks me out within half an hour in the hotel room. I used to take 25 mg, but that would cause drowsiness the next day. Then, I found out that half a pill worked just as well. I have tried tranquilizers and alternative medicines, but Phenergan works best without any major side effects."

"I was recommended this by a pharmacist to take with 200 mg sertraline because the sertraline was causing insomnia. I live alone, and when I started taking one promethazine at night to help me sleep, I didn't recognize that I was feeling strange. After 4 days of taking it at night, I had been seriously hallucinating (visual and audio). Paranoid and feelings that my hallucinations (family, friends, and colleagues) were all against me and that everyone in the world hated me. At one point, I believed something was so real and that I was in danger that I called the police. It wasn't until I'd messaged a close friend with my concerns for my safety and my explanations and claims that I actually realized something was wrong with my head/mind. I'd been seeing things coming out of my wall, hearing people talk about me (while I was alone), creepy music playing, and much more. I was taken to the hospital. The docs and psychiatrists told me it was the mix of promethazine and sertraline. I thought I'd gone insane! It was petrifying :("
