Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I have been dealing with chronic nausea/vomiting for almost a year. I have had every test in the book, and they all come back negative. I've tried medications for irritable bowel syndrome, and I've tried Phenergan and Zofran, none of which worked. I also used the transdermal Scopolamine patch, which helped a little. Finally, my doctor prescribed Compazine suppository, and I have had great relief of my nausea/vomiting. I hope to be able to stay on this for a long time. It is a wonder medicine."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I've never experienced anxiety, I don't take any medication for anxiety, but thanks to this drug I had my first panic attack. I went to the ER for extreme nausea due to pain killers given to me to alleviate the pain of some kidney stones. Right after being given this medication I started feeling jittery and like I couldn't breathe. 10 minutes later I wanted to rip out my own IV, my entire body was shaking and was having facial contractions. The doctor laughed it off saying I was being overly dramatic and I just needed to breath. It was the worse experience I've ever had, and I thought the kidney stones were bad enough. 3 days later and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. I will never take this drug again and have no idea why it's still in the market."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I had experience high agitation and restlessness with this drug before so it’s been in my allergy list, unfortunately I was going through a difficult procedure and it’s the only anti-emetic this office offered. It had been over 10 years since I took it so I figured I’d try it again. Bad idea. This drug causes severe anxiety, agitation, muscle pain and a general feeling of needing to rip out of your skin!! I remember now why it was on my DO NOT USE list, the affects stay with you for a long time too. I will never take this again.. there’s a reason it’s listed as a mental health drug/antipsychotic.. IMO it MAKES you psychotic."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER twice with a severe migraine, both times given Compazine. It definitely helps with relieving the pain, but the side effects outweigh it for me. Felt like my skin was crawling, restlessness, skin rash, dry mouth, anxiety (triggered a panic attack both times), brought up a lot of bad thoughts of how I was dying. Long term, rebound headache, insomnia, loss of appetite. Also had it with Benadryl once, and that scared me."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "After having a migraine and horrible muscle pains for 20+ hours I went to the ER. This medication compazine was in the Migraine "Cocktail" they gave me. I have never felt the way it made me feel. I couldn’t sit still, my body didn’t feel like my own. I was literally freaking out. I wanted to get out of there, I was ready to rip out my IV and run. My husband tried to help keep me calm. When the second nurse came in she said this happens sometimes, and that they should have given it at a slower rate. I do not know if that would’ve made a difference, and I am not giving it a second try. Worst medical experience I’ve experienced. I do not blame the DR. ir Nurses, but this medication has left me traumatized."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Anxiety "Like many on here, I too went to the ER for severe migraine. I have been given phenergan and toradol and that always does the trick but this time I went to a different hospital and they gave me compazine and Benadryl. Within seconds I felt anxious. I wanted to rip my IV out and I felt severely claustrophobic. One of the worst experiences of my life. I would have rather kept the migraine than go through that again. When I got home I still had anxiety and it didn’t completely go away for a day or two. I’m still scared to go to a hospital after this experience and I’m actually scared of IVs now."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this for nausea & a migraine. It did not help me with either, but made me anxious and I felt like my skin was crawling. I've never experienced anything like that. I was ready to pull the IV out myself & escape from the room if they didn't hurry up and discharge me. I've never had a response to a medicine like that before, and it was absolutely awful. Worst hour if my life."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER yesterday for a migraine and was given compazine and fell asleep, however when I woke up I felt off like something wasn't right. I couldn't stay still, I just felt uneasy. It wasn't until I just read the comments in this thread that I realized that I the compazine had a side effect on me. I will definitely put it on my non-medication list. I still feel weird the next day. I even called off of work. I hope this helps someone else."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER with a migraine and I got this through an IV. I was totally fine and all happy until this drug hit me. I went completely insane. I got claustrophobic, I wanted to kill myself, I started twitching, and I got super anxious. They gave me some Benadryl which helped so they sent me home. On the way home it happened again, and it kept happening all night even after I kept taking Benadryl. The only time I felt not insane was when I was sleeping but I was still having weird dreams. The next morning I woke up and I was still really anxious but the serious side effects went away. For 2 more days I still felt anxious and it was the worst thing ever. Everyone told me this was really rare and I don't think any of the people there at the ER really knew what was going on. This is a scary drug. I just wanted to share my story."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the ER with the worst headache of my life. After a spinal tap, the doctors determined I had encephalitis. The pain I felt from that and the spinal tap were bad enough, but even that wasn’t as bad as the pure dread that Compazine made me feel. Prior to administering it, my nurse warned me that some people can have a bad reaction to the drug, but she said Benadryl typically counteracted those negative side effects. I wish I’d had the sense to ask more questions first! Within five minutes of taking it, I felt like I needed to crawl out of my own skin. I’m a pretty calm person with a good grip on my emotions, but I felt like a lost all control in that moment. I screamed at my nurse and told her to get it out of me. Knowing now that they could’ve given me Ativan to calm me down irritates me a little because they made me lay there and suffer through it for hours. Luckily, the side effects didn’t last more than a few hours, but it felt like an eternity."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER with extreme dizziness. They wound up giving me Compazine. I wasn’t even familiar with what it was. I felt strange at first, but then my hands contorted & froze. My mouth had almost completely clamped shut. An orderly or a CNA just happened to come by to empty trash. I barely was able to say please go get someone something’s not right. The dr at first thought I had stroked. He ran some test gave me some Benadryl which helped. I would never take this drug again."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the doctor because of my dizziness and nausea, the doctor had prescribed Compazine to me for my nausea which didn’t even work. Jump forward a few days and I go to the ER to see if they can do something about it when I noticed I started having seizure like attacks where my body will stay in one position and my eyes would roll to the back of my head and the doctor said it was because I was allergic to the drug even though I didn’t know, but isn’t Compazine supposed to no longer supposed to be sold"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "My mother had a colonoscopy and had a vocal chord spasm which caused her to cough during it. They gave her some medicine (don't remember the name) to help dry up her secretions and calm down the coughing. This made her chest tight, painful, and made her feel nauseous after she got home. I took her to the ER, she is allergic to Reglan, so they gave her a mix of benadryl and compazine for nausea. Within 5 minutes she was jittering around and felt like she wanted to rip her IVs out and run home. Her anxiety skyrocketed and her heart rate went up to 154 bpms. It wasn't until they gave her Ativan that her heart rate went down and she was able to calm down. We got sent home & she was still anxious and fidgeting around for about 4 hours until she finally fell asleep. She woke up and still felt a little anxious & fidgety but not near as bad as last night. One of the worst experiences she & I have ever had and she is going to have it put as she is allergic so she never has to be through it again."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the ER for a migraine and was given this medication combined with benadryl. It basically induced a panic attack and I felt as if I couldn't breathe properly. It was awful especially as I wasn't anxious about being in the ER, but after taking compazine I just wanted to leave."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I was taking Zofran for years for severe nausea. During a hospital stay, I was given Reglan and had horrible hallucinations, and my skin was crawling, like some people in the reviews had with Prochlorperazine. However, Zofran stopped working for me during the last bout of nausea, so my doc gave me Prochlorperazine, which helped tremendously, and thankfully, I had no side effects."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Psychosis "First and LAST time I ever received IV compazine, within minutes of hitting my veins I was severely anxious, like and acute psychosis. I jumped up from the bed, and said "I gotta get out of here, I gotta go". My husband was like "what the hell did they just put in your IV". He called the RN in, and he gave me IV benadryl which did not help me. For the next 3 DAYS, I was out of my mind, could not function, and honestly was scared to be alone for fear I may have hurt myself! My husband stayed home to care for me and make sure I did not hurt myself or take off running. Oral benadryl and oral ativan--NOTHING took the feeling away. Absolutely awful!! I have never in my life had feeling of hurting myself, or dealt with any mental health issues, it was COMPLETELY terrifying!! I don't understand why this medication is still on the market honestly!!"

Compro (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I used it after a surgery when the anti-nausea patch wasn't working well enough. I took off the patch, used the suppository, and had no more nausea. Used it again after several hours of vomiting and diarrhea due to assumed food poisoning. It was BAD (vomiting every 20 minutes). Then I remembered I had a leftover suppository. Used it and didn't throw up once afterwards. I was able to go to sleep and woke up hours later when my fever had passed."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given a migraine cocktail that had compazine included in it. THIS MEDICATION MADE MY SYMTOMS A MILLION TIMES WORSE! I started with my heart pounding and a severe anxious feeling immediately. I was given this med thru an IV. It literally felt like an instant panic attack. It's been 4 days now and I still am having spontaneous bouts of anxiety due to this medication. The half life is 24 hours with this med and it's been well over 96 hours since I was administered it and I'm still experiencing side effects. I also got low blood pressure which gave me cold sweats, disorientation and I was freezing. My only relief was from hot baths which made my blood pressure go up some. I also had dissociation, as if I wasn't even myself, from this medication. I can not stress enough how awful this medication is and it should NOT be used as nausea relief unless it's for EXTREME circumstances. This medication is used in people with schizophrenia! I am still not myself days after and its miserable."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have anxiety but I was prescribed this medication for my vertigo and sickness problem I randomly have ATM and I’m so dizzy but after taking these I feel better. I then read that it can help with anxiety and my panic attacks have been so bad I just wanted them to stop. So I started taking the medication for anxiety and I haven't had an attack in 2 days really, but I’m reading all these reviews and now I’m scared to take it because of my panic attacks got worse I have no idea what I would do TBH. Not sure if I should carry on taking them if they give you permanent damage anxiety wise."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER for a severe migraine...they gave me compazine and benadryl. 20 min later I was in a severe panic...ripping my IV's out. Calling out to the nurse saying I was leaving!! They had to give me more benadryl to reverse it. I left the hospital feeling worse than I did when I went in!! Horrible experience!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Demerol & Compazine to combat migraine & experienced severe agitation. The dr recognized phenothiazine-induced akathisia & countered it with Benadryl & Ativan. Years later I was, again, treated for HA. I double-checked the dr knew I couldn't take Compazine. He ordered chlorpromazine & Valium. Unfamiliar with the generic, I didn't realize it was Thorazine (in the same class as Compazine). Another bad reaction. I pulled the IV out, fled & paced at home for 15 hours. Surely, the dr knew I'd react negatively. A couple years later back to ER for the 1st time since the Thorazine. I explained my reactions in detail. This time I was given Reglan. Again, I ripped out the IV & was headed for the door when the nurse caught me. Repeated doses of an antidote worked. I learned, subsequently, it's common to react badly to Reglan if you reacted to Compazine. Either the dr was poorly informed or simply willing to risk my well-being. I've suffered at home in silence with ever since."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) for Nausea/Vomiting "I was born with chronic pancreatitis and chronic migraines so vomiting is a for sure thing every time I visit the ER. I have never in my life been traumatized by a medication until this encounter. It is like we are their lab rats, you feel helpless, insane, delusional, 51-50, a psychopath. You literally feel trapped inside your body if that makes any sense. I try to hold my composure off this medication because it literally makes you crazy. It should be illegal for them to give inject you with it without a warning on the side effects. You feel so weird for 3 days, it’s as if your innocence has been robbed from you, a form of violation."

IV Zofran did nothing, IV Reglan did nothing, only the IV Compazine gave me relief. Granted, as soon as it ran out, I started up again, but at least it allowed me a few hours of peace to sleep."
