"In the summer, I often have severe allergic reactions to things like horsehair, cotton, and cut grass. Those reactions swell up my eyes like a tennis ball. Prednisone really helps tame the swelling and stops me from sneezing. Too bad it's very unhealthy, or I'd take it more often if I could."

"I'm taking Prednisone as follow-up to being hospitalized for pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. I was also taking an antibiotic, Clindamycin, when I developed hives. I immediately thought it was the Clindamycin because I'm allergic to Neosporin (Neomycin) and stopped taking it 4 days ago. I waited for the rash to clear, but it hasn't. Then I thought, 'Why do I have an allergic reaction to something when I'm taking a steroid?' Bingo! Looked up side effects of Prednisone and there it was: rare reaction of hives. Looked it up just right after I took my 2nd half-tablet. No more Prednisone for me!"

"I think my hives were from a new laundry detergent or viral infection. Not sure which one, but my doctor doesn’t know either... I was prescribed prednisone, and it hasn’t seemed to help. It makes me feel so uncomfortable and jittery, I am in tears. The worst part is it messes up my sleep and isn’t working!!! I’ve taken Benadryl and hydroxyzine, and that doesn’t help much either. I guess my point of this review is to say prednisone hasn’t helped me and makes me feel like a crackhead. Zero stars for this med."

"I had an allergic reaction when a vacuum cleaner that was not working right and it kicked back everything in the air. Five hours later, my throat was hurting, it was itching, and I was coughing. I was taking Benadryl the way the box said, this did not help. However, my doctor prescribed prednisone 10 mg with directions of tapering off, and it did help me immensely, with no side effects. I would recommend anybody with bad allergies see if you can get on prednisone, it does help."

"I just returned from A&E after beginning to experience anaphylaxis shock from an allergy to nuts. I had mistakenly eaten pecan nuts in a biscuit. I had twice in life had the shock and felt this coming on. Strangely, it didn't progress to a full reaction, but the symptoms I was getting were a strange taste, a bit of swelling in my mouth and hands and feet. Underneath my skin was feeling increasingly itchy, but it's blood running under the skin. The doctor at A&E gave me about 10 tablets of this prednisone. I had never been given or suggested it before, and he said this can take a few hours, but in 5 minutes, my symptoms had gone. It is an amazing drug, but he said most GPs wouldn't prescribe it to me. I now carry 2 for an emergency. It is an amazing drug, my body had a quick reaction to it. Recommended."

"Horrible drug whose side effects are worse than the condition. Really messed me up for months on a six-day course starting at 24 mg, then reducing by 4 mg daily for 5 days. Panic attacks, vision problems, ulcer or gastritis, hip pain, racing heartbeat, hip pain, and didn't do anything for the allergic sinus condition. Getting out of polluted Bakersfield, California did cure the allergy but spent a month on the side effects after ending use. Doctors and pharmacists never warned of possible side effects."

"This drug might be great for others, but for the few, it is destructive. As it was for me. I had an allergic reaction from a bug bite on my knee, causing pain and swelling. So the doctor prescribed prednisone. Over 4 days, I experienced excruciating joint pain that led me to the emergency room (side effect of prednisone). I stopped it immediately, but over a year later, I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the hip (bone death). I'm getting both hips replaced now, and I'm a 28-year-old male with no prior medical problems. Look up other people's bad experiences with it, this drug made my life very difficult."

"Over the years, I have broken out in hives on several occasions due to the binder in some medications, scraping my legs on a briny ladder in the ocean, and most recently after a wasp sting on my hand. The only thing that works for me is a Prednisone taper: 10 mg tablets—4 for 3 days, 3 for 3 days, then 2 and 1. Always wipes out the hives, and I get the added benefit that my osteoarthritis stops hurting. They do make me feel weird and interfere somewhat with sleep, but I can manage that and am grateful that I can get reliable relief from the hives."

"An ear infection and nerve compression resulted in Bell's palsy when my doctor prescribed prednisone tablet Omnacortil 20 mg, a full tablet morning and evening for five days, and then reduced the dose slowly for the next five days, then only half a tablet in a day for the next five days. As this drug can cause severe side effects such as confusion and allergies. This tablet worked for me for the infection, BUT as soon as I stopped using it, my face and neck started itching badly with severe acne all over them, and then I went to a skin specialist, and the acne went off in a week but left black spots all over. It’s better to take any other substitute for this drug because I have read a lot of reviews on this drug causing side effects and now my own worst experience."

"Prednisone took away first experience with hives but caused a seizure the day of withdrawal from the drug. No underlying conditions, no interaction with any other drug. Suffered with pins and needles in arms and legs for over two days after stopping the drug. Only on it for 4 days. No hives, but side effects scary and uncomfortable."

"Had a severe allergic reaction to acne medication Tactuo on my face. Took one 50 mg tablet, and the next day the chemical burn on my face is no longer hot, swollen, or painful. For short term, I highly recommend, provided relief for one of the most painful experiences of my life."

"I had hives. Got prescribed this. About 4 days into taking it, every time I shut my eyes, something I was scared of would fly at my face, making me jolt up and open my eyes. I didn't sleep for about 36 hours. Even me knowing and thinking it was not real did not help even the slightest. Nothing helped, I just had to wait until it was out of my system enough for it to stop. But every single noise was amplified and scary. My boyfriend would knock into something, and it would send me into a panic. He would say something or even move enough for my vision to catch it, and I would actually jump and get scared. Basically, everything was terrifying, and I couldn't shut my eyes for more than about 2 seconds without it happening."

"I took prednisone before, and it was very helpful for asthma, and it was great. Now, though, I took 20 mgs, and I'm EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. My face hurts and stings. My ears feel like they're full of cotton or something. My anxiety is very bad. Struggling to just lay down and wait it out. My face burns but isn't red."

"I was exposed to numerous midgee bites all over my body, which I'm extremely allergic to. I was prescribed Prednisone 25 mg tablets and Betnovate 1 mg cream, and on day 2, I have seen fantastic results. Swelling has gone down, and itching has almost completely disappeared."

"Took away my poison ivy rash, made me gain weight, and made me psychotic. I hate that doctors can write prescriptions to take one thing away, have to write another prescription to fix that problem. A bunch of greedy, money-making machines they are."

"I sought prednisone after a severe poison ivy reaction. I was given a 12-day prescription of 10 mg pills (6x2, 5x2, 4x2, 3x2, 2x2, 1x2). My initial reaction at 60 mg doses was hyper alertness, which tapered each day, but nonetheless, endless energy and focus. I got so much accomplished. On day 8, the poison ivy had almost completely healed, but my entire upper torso began itching constantly. No hives or marks of any kind. Almost like a million bugs crawling all over me. So bad that it woke me from sleep every night."

"Thank the gods for prednisone. My allergies crept up on me a week and a half later and to top it off, I had hair braiding extensions added to my hair. My scalp started to leak, ooze, and burn. Then I physically got ill by way of vomiting and dizziness. People, please don't believe everything you read. Do your research, and DO NOT USE PEROXIDE. More importantly, if you start experiencing severe itching and warm scalp abrasions, you should go to your local emergency room to get the 5-day Prednisone and begin to reverse the trauma of your allergic reaction. I'm still taking it one day at a time, and I recommend Prednisone 1000%."

"Sandoz methylprednisolone has been prescribed for me twice this year, and I have not been able to use it because it is causing anaphylaxis. I have a severely depressed immune system due to nickel poisoning. Subsequent Hashimoto's syndrome and lymphedema flare-ups are currently being treated with antibiotics and prednisone. Until this year, the Sandoz methylprednisolone did not cause any problems."

"Was put on 60 mg prednisone for 4 days due to an allergic reaction to penicillin. Day one was okay, day two insomnia, increased anxiety, and hot flashes. Day three mental mood changes including depressed mood, a crying spell, and more severe anxiety to the point I thought I was going crazy, my heart rate was elevated as well. Stopped the medication, and over the course of 2 days, I’m slowly feeling better, perhaps a lower dose would have been better."

"Taking prednisone for lupus flare. Have taken it many times before this. While it's calming the flare a bit, this is the first time I've had seriously weird side effects. Ovary pains, severe headaches, and leg aches with my third dose @30 mgs. I wonder if the ingredients are changed or if my body is just rejecting it? Asked my doc, she is still telling me to stay on, but I don't agree as the pain is not bearable. I guess a new rheumy might be in order. FWIW."

"Well, I used hair dye in my hair Tuesday, 11 June 2019. Everything was fine. Woke up Wednesday, had a bit of swelling on my head. Thought nothing of it. Later that day, my head started itching, so I put paw paw ointment on. Thursday was the same. Woke up this morning, 14 June 2019, and one side of my face had swelled up so bad, more in my eye area. My eye is so puffy, don't feel pain or anything. Went to the doctor and got prescribed prednisone, 25 mg, take one twice daily. Swelling is worse at the moment, but I am hoping it goes away ASAP."

"I was prescribed prednisone drops 4 times daily for 2 weeks, then 2 times daily for 2 weeks for cataract surgery. As soon as I stopped entirely, I started getting a rash on my shin, feet, hips, abdomen, lower back, arms/shoulders, and scalp. It's spreading and becoming more severe daily. Since there have been no other changes in habit, diet, or environment, I am attributing the rash to possible prednisone rebound. I had a similar rash 2 years ago after a course of penicillin. (Side note: while on the drops, the puffiness and drooping nature of my eyelid disappeared so that my two eyes looked very different. Too bad the drug has so many side effects-it could be used instead of eyelid surgery.)"

"I was given prednisone 50 mg for 5 days due to a contact allergic reaction all over my body. After 2 hours, the itch subsided greatly, and the rash slowly disappeared. I did become very anxious, then tired. After sleeping for two hours, insomnia kicked in, and I was up for 4 hours. After the initial problems, it seems to be working great. Remember to take it at the same time every day. I was one hour late, and the rash came right back."

"I was prescribed prednisone for a skin rash. After taking it, I started noticing improvements in the rash after 2 days, and then the rash eventually went away after my prescription dosage ended. I still have no idea what caused the rash, but I'm so glad the prednisone made it go away!"
