For Asthma "Prednisone does wonders for my breathing when I'm at the point of struggling to take a deep breath, yawning to catch a breath, coughing and constantly coughing up thick mucus. The side effects don't bother me like they did when I first started taking prednisone. It has really been a benefit to me."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I was diagnosed with RA and had the opinion and experimentation of drugs from 6 different doctors and none worked. Until one day, my 7th Dr prescribed prednisolone (prednisone). Less than 24hrs after taking it, I felt so much better. I began to do things on my own again like hold a teacup, stand or walk faster than I had in almost 2 years. The pain I felt every night and woke with evey morning was now manageable. The moon face, weight gain were small prices to pay to be able to comb my own hair. I've weaned off from 20mg to 2.5mg per day and that was great. But after a flare I was forced to up my dosage again. Learning how to manage it with prednisone helps. Side effects of long term use is important, but having the ability to live a normal life while having RA is a gift. Do what works for you."

For Skin Rash "I have dealt with an itching face for several months. I was embarrassed for anyone to see my face. After purchasing numerous over-the-counter creams, without any results, I decided it was time to see the doctor. Thank God for prednisone...the itching went away and my skin is clear."

For Gouty Arthritis "I've had chronic gout for about 10 years now. I've been to the doctor multiple times and the ER when it gets really bad. Tried many home remedies including black tart cherry juice with no relief. Trust me when I say this! Prednisone is the ONLY thing that has ever helped. I tell the doctor to not even prescribe me painkillers anymore cause it doesn't help. Prednisone is a miracle for my gout flare-ups. VERY FAST RESULTS!!!!"

For Allergic Reactions "I had a severe itch for almost a month. The doctor couldn't make a formal diagnosis. I had red itchy spots all over me, and I was MISERABLE. I was prescribed a prednisone pack of 21 pills 10mg to take over a span of 5 or 6 days, and by the third day, the itching and scratching had subsided tremendously. I'm not sure if it was an allergic reaction to something I came in contact with as I have never had a problem like this before. This medicine truly saved me... It did make me have an appetite, but since it took care of my problem, that issue was insignificant."

For Asthma "I'm using self-prescribed short courses of prednisone (40mg a day for 2-5 days) to control mild asthma symptoms when inhalers were not doing the job. The prednisone brings me back to feeling normal very quickly. Since doctors are not too interested in using it like this though."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "My grandfather was diagnosed with RA in his 30s. Following knee replacement surgery at 61, he was put on Prednisone. At 66, he went to the hospital, within 2 hours he was put on life support and died the following day. It was New Year’s Eve. Cause of death - pneumonia. Prednisone masked his symptoms until it was too late. He never even knew he was sick. Prednisone is a miracle worker for most people. I’ve taken it for short periods of time to get my severe eczema under control, but I protest every time. I’m always afraid to take it even briefly because of how I lost my best friend; my hero. It’s a cruel joke, really. My grandpa was in the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal, survived Korea, came home from Vietnam...taken out by a tiny pill. For those in pain, I know how desperately you search for relief and when you find it, you never want to let go. This one, in my opinion, should not be taken indefinitely. If Prednisone works for you, please just take with caution."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I had a full bone scan and found arthritis in almost every joint, the worst being knee, wrists, fingers, feet, and neck. I was prescribed Prednisone, and within 1-2 days they worked. However, one of the side effects is weight gain. I do recommend them if you don't mind putting on a lot of weight. I didn't stay on them because of this but have taken full-strength Glucosamine every day for years. I think over time they have gradually repaired some damage to the joints. A lot of times I could feel an attack of arthritis coming on, I would feel extremely tired, words even slurred so I would take 1/2 to 1 Prednisone, no pain the next day."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I had COPD with chest pain, also I had shoulder pain due to lifting heavy objects last year. I had started prednisone 20mg x 2 two days back. I shall take it for 5 days. I felt much better on the second day only. Today is the third day and I am feeling much better. My COPD symptoms improved very much. Also, reduced swelling in my shoulder magically. I had not taken it for shoulder pain but it improved very much. Now I can raise my hand 90 degrees which was impossible two days back. My breathless due to smoking-related COPD is getting cured. improved up to 60%. Three more days to go, I shall update you."

Last night I woke once with a light cough, but easily went back to sleep. I am taking 10 mg pills, 5 a day for 2 days, then 4 a day for 2 days, then 3 a day for 2 days, then 2 a day for 2 days, then 1 a day for 2 days."

For Fibromyalgia "I have just taken prednisalone for the first time for a moderate exacerbation of asthma. For the first time in 28 years I was pain free. I kept telling my husband that despite how sick I was with pneumonia I felt so relaxed and I realised I had no pain. Now I know how normal people feel I could cry. You can't take it forever due to the effects on your body but gosh I sure wish they could work on something that worked the same without the side effects.meanwhile I am trying to readjust to pain again and feeling heartbroken that I have to live with fibromyalgia."

For Allergic Reactions "I had a severe allergic reaction to poison ivy. Both arms, from my wrist to my elbow, were covered in hives. I had to run to the sink every 10 minutes because it felt like arms were on fire and the worst itch imaginable. I was averaging 1 to 2 hours of sleep a night for weeks. Prednisone saved me, literally. I was going crazy from the intense burning feeling, severe itching and no sleep. I am on my 4th round of prednisone, since most doctors prescribe way too low a dose for this severe of a reaction. Finally find the right doctor who gave me the correct dosage. I can finally get some sleep and my arms are not on fire. If it was not for this medication I think I would be in the loony bin somewhere scratching the skin off my arms."

For Inflammatory Conditions "It started as a muscle pain, much like fibro, but it hurt three times worse. It started in my shoulders, then my neck, then my arms and legs and then my back and hips. My dr did blood tests and my inflammatory markers were all above the normal ranges. This pain became excruciating.. Unbearable until I woke one morning and could not raise my head off my pillow.. I had to literally roll out of my bed onto the floor . I tried every pain pill from Lyrica to opioids..nothing touched the pain..it was debilitating. I searched thru my med books . Finally I went to my Dr and told him ..Ithink I have polymyalgia rheumatica..I had every single symptom in the book!! And the tests also were conclusive.. So, after2 days..pain was gone"

For Polymyalgia Rheumatica "I was diagnosed with PMR a year ago and was prescribed 30 mg of Prednisone to start. After ruling out GCA, my doc began a tapering protocol which reduced my dosage by 2.5 every three weeks. I got down to taking 5 mg a day a believed that I could just stop and go the natural route. Well, joint and muscle pain came back with a vengeance. I had a setback big time. I’m back up to 10MG and back to 5mg after 10 days. So, I’m a believer that prednisone works for this condition, but hate that other meds must be taken to manage other side effects like a PPI to protect the stomach lining. For those who are not seeing a difference, unfortunately may need to start at a high tee dose than taper slowly. Hope this helps someone."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have polymyalgia rheumatoiditis in my joints. The only thing for this disease is prednisone, so I take it. I have had 10 lbs of weight gain, hot flashes all the time, excessive urination (at least 5 times during the night) but the pain in my joints is gone. I am slowly working my way off of prednisone I and a half tabs right now) within 12 - 15 weeks, I should be off, and my disease should be gone. So I'm a lucky one."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I am a 55-year-old female and have been living with RA for 8 years. Prednisone has made a MAJOR difference in the quality of my life together with a combination of CoxFlam, Nivaquine, Arava, Salezepyrin, and Methotrexate. I still have to go for regular blood tests and Cortisone IVs every 6-8 months, but thanks to the medication and my wonderful rheumatologist, I can live a normal and productive life. I am a Senior IT Manager in a very demanding job. Although I had to slow down my pace a bit (as I am totally adrenaline-driven), I am still managing my career very well and hope to remain in my career for another 10 years."

For Fibromyalgia "I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. Since that time, I have been in constant pain. I have pain in knees, hips, wrists, legs, low back, neck, jaw, hands and fingers. I also suffer from chronic sinusitis, which can usually be controlled by a nasal steroid, antibiotic nasal rinse, allergy medication. During this time, I have been prescribed prednisone to help with the sinus infection. These are the only two times I have had no pain in 15 years. I will be speaking to my Dr about prescribing me a low dose of prednisone. I am off the prednisone and back to pain and no energy again."

It was red burning itching like be lit on fire I read that using lavender essential oils ( can be mixed with almond or coconut carrier oils) can work wonders and I had some on hand. I got a cotton ball and started rubbing on my legs and arms It was like a miracle ! It can be bought at Walmart in the vitamin isle for 5-7 dollars also the carrier oils too."

For Skin Rash "You're all being under prescribed. I was treated by an urgent care doctor and put on a 2 week plan at 20mg a day and it did nothing. A second visit i was told to apply over the counter creams (like hydrocortisone) and take antihistamines (like benadryl). 6 months of small lingering patches later and i know have full blown severe rashes and open sores across over 50% of my body. My dermatologist laughed at my original treatment plan. I'm two days into a 60mg a day 3 week plan and it's already greatly improved. However i do have heart burn as a side affect but it's doing its job."

My only relief was brought by Prednisone treatment. Although, I am a person who does not take medicines just for anything, I was very open to prednisone."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I am 45 years old and have had one of the most acute cases of bronchial asthma in the world. I have been prescribed prednisone since I was a little girl. This is how prednisone works: If you take a high dose and taper over about a week, you should feel relief from just about any pain caused by inflammation, rash and asthma by day two. for that, nothing works better. If you have to take prednisone for a longer period of time, you'll suffer from huge weight gain, acne, moon-face, body aches, hyperactivity, sleeplessness and severe moodiness. I was just released from a four week stay in ICU for asthma and double pneumonia on 125 mg every four hours. I gained 60 lbs and my face looked like Miss Piggy. They had to treat the prednisone symptoms!"

For Bursitis "As a nurse, I can tell you that oral cortisone should be taken early in the day (and with food, of course) to avoid it interfering with normal sleep patterns. I would suggest taking it with breakfast. And as you probably know, it is not advisable to take cortisone for longer than two weeks (on a tapering dose) in order to avoid side effects."
