Piroxicam "Have used it for about 15 years as the condition is progressing. Only use it until pain subsides and stop as soon as I can. The maximum time required has been one week, and in most cases, two or three days are sufficient. There have been long periods between the strong pains, and I wait for it to be quite bad before using medication, so I do not want to overuse and lose the ability to use the milder drugs."

Piroxicam "I have severe osteoarthritis in my left knee since an infection from surgery in 1972. I started using Feldene around 1983 when I had a severe flare-up of pain. I have a strong aversion to pills of any sort, but I regard Feldene as a miracle drug. My pain cleared up in days. A 30-day supply would last me for better than a year since I would only take it when needed. I've found that it works best when taken in conjunction with exercise because it is the exercise that is the true 'cure' for the problem. It seems to smooth the arthritis and perhaps provide other natural relief. The Feldene makes the activity more tolerable and leads to a faster cure. When I get lazy and inactive, the problem comes back."

"I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. Several times a week, I experience back pain, which resembles pulled muscles. Neck, shoulder blades, and kneecaps are all affected. Piroxicam is lightly rubbed on in all affected areas after a warm bath, and I usually wake the next day with the pain completely gone. It's the most effective gel I could recommend."

"I have been taking piroxicam 20 mg once daily for several years, mostly for bad knees and as a general anti-inflammatory. I take it in the morning with breakfast. It works very well for me, with no side effects at all. I am very careful to always take it with food and milk, and I have my liver enzymes tested yearly. I chose this NSAID for several reasons: 1) It is a low dosage taken once a day; 2) It appeared to have fewer gastrointestinal issues than others; 3) I cannot take naproxen; 5) Unlike Lodine or Vioxx, it does not give me any sensation of being mentally 'drugged'; 6) As a generic, it is EXTREMELY inexpensive (< $10/100 pills)."

Piroxicam "Taking 20 mg of Feldene with a small snack to lessen any irritation has helped the inflammation of osteoarthritis in my spine. I have had pretty good results by paying attention to that. That said, NSAIDs have their limit as far as advanced OA goes, and I have had to add other things, but it does what it's supposed to do: reduce inflammation pain. One happy side effect, reduced monthly pains at that time of the month."

"I was given this because of swelling on top of my right hand and pain in my arm. I have a Baker's cyst in my left knee and was told I have osteoarthritis. I am 61, and the pain and swelling came on suddenly. I have been on this medicine for 2 weeks and do not feel any difference."

"Piroxicam (20 mg) one capsule daily with Prilosec was prescribed by my physician for swelling in the knee. This swelling was supposed to be associated with osteoarthritis. The swelling in the knee started about 3 months ago. I am in physical therapy 3 times per week. The point is that after taking Prilosec with Piroxicam, my legs and ankles began to swell. I am also taking a blood pressure medicine, one half tablet of Triam/HCTZ 37.5, which I take in about 1 hour after Piroxicam with Prilosec."
