"I've been on oxybutynin for 3 weeks, 5 mg twice a day. It completely stopped my generalized hyperhidrosis. I had to discontinue due to side effects. I felt like my lower back was on fire, difficulty swallowing, and stomach not emptying. I tried glycopyrrolate and had similar side effects. Anyone who has tried a different oral medication to recommend?"

"I’m 27 and have been suffering from severe underarm hyperhidrosis since I was a teen. Someone in a support group I’m in recommended Oxybutynin to me, and they said it changed their lives. After trying it for myself, it changed mine too! I’m on 10 mg tablets, and all my perspiration is gone within an hour of taking it. No more sticking paper towels under my arms all day. No more changing my shirt several times a day. This medication truly gave me my life - and personal comfort - back. I have had no side effects either."

"I've given this stuff a try a couple of times, and I'm surprised more people don't complain about the side effects! I didn't really notice a difference in dryness, but I sure felt terrible! I could barely function on this stuff: pressure headache, lethargy, and dizziness! I'm glad it works for some people; wish I was one of them!"

"I have been telling my GP about these debilitating sweats for years, and he had no clue as to what may help. I came across this site yesterday before my GP appointment and started taking oxybutynin in the afternoon and this morning and have hardly had a drop of sweat. Feeling great. I was so down at the thought of living, sweating like this forever. Happy now."

"Female, 40 yrs - age. Started getting axillary hyperhidrosis at age 24 yrs. Not known if hereditary, so Dr. said wasn't primary but secondary. I basically begged my Dr. as it had major effects on my QOL. At my wit's end, willing to try anything, just want it to be over! On day 4 of 2.5 mg per day. I took the 1st dose in the afternoon (fine), the 2nd dose just before dinner (not good! Found myself dizzy and tired), the 3rd and 4th doses before bed (fine). On the 4th day, starting to get a slight dry throat, not major. Sweat seems to have decreased a little. Not confident to wear anything not black. Can't be certain as to improvement as sometimes clothing feels wet, but when I feel my armpit, it feels dry, weird. Will be brave tomorrow and wear color. Will keep updating over weeks."

"It works! I only use it occasionally when it’s partially hot or sticky. I have 5 mg pills, which work well and fairly quick, it seems. Though sometimes I split them in half, which still works for the sweating but lessens the side effects, which for me is feeling a tiny bit shaky, and - while not nausea - does make me not feel as hungry and a sort of butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling. Also, I definitely get dry mouth."

"I have been on this a couple of months as directed by my surgeon (one 5 mg a day), and I am still soaking all my clothes, mainly back, buttocks, thighs, torso, and underarms. I even have to wear disposable incontinence panties, as the sweat just pours into regular ones and leaves wet marks on seats if I don't. (I am 40, so it's not a big deal for me to wear them.) I had the surgery (2008) for cranial facial sweating, and it was marvelous. Now in 2015, my head and face are still sweat-free, while the compensatory sweating is out of control. I drink many liters of water a day, but with the amount of sweat I produce, I have to keep drinking or my throat and mouth get so dry that food sticks in it. Waiting for word on surgery number two."

"I was so negative about Oxybutynin as an alternative to Propantheline Bromide (a supply issue from China caused this). From day one of taking, I think this medication has totally changed and improved my QOF. I take 10 mg first thing, but don't have to wait till I feel really dry before doing anything as I did with Propantheline, which is great. I can get on with my day, and I can eat without choking with a normal dry mouth. I'm not sweating making or eating dinner, and at night just relax watching TV. I'm no longer sleeping with a fan on to stay cool. Absolutely love these tablets and am so happy I'm not sweating from my head/face."

"Have hyperhidrosis of my scalp and head, chest, torso, and bum. Hyperhidrosis of the scalp and head bothers me, especially with sweat in my eyes. I don’t have to do anything but go outside in the heat and humidity. Unfortunately, oxybutynin exacerbates another condition—brachioradial pruritus (itchy arms)—and therefore I cannot use this. I already have two other anti-cholinergics: myrbetriq for overactive bladder and diphenhydramine to sleep."

"I have suffered with hyperhidrosis for years, with even a small amount of exertion. I was at wit's end and nearly begging my doctor when she prescribed 5 mg of oxybutynin. I noticed a big improvement on just the second day. Taken twice a day has given me complete relief. Yes, I have a dry mouth, but it beats walking around all sweaty. What a relief!"

"I am female, 73 years old, and started taking oxybutynin, which for a while seemed to help with my incontinence episodes. However, I started having a dry mouth and had to use more medication for my dry mouth. Constipation, having to use more medication for this, oral meds to relieve the constipation, suppositories just to go, eventually small enemas after suppositories! Had indigestion, having to use more medicine to relieve that. I have had, in the past, hyperparathyroidism with surgery, and noticed some of my urinary labs were getting bad. My GP wanted to start ultrasounds for liver and GB (I had GB surgery in the 90s). Once I stopped oxybutynin, all the above symptoms cleared up! Not sure about the labs as of this date. Still have incontinence and have to continue wearing diapers! I wrote this because this medication is not for everyone, as any medication is not for everyone. Learn about the side effects of all your medications and report them to your doctor!"

"I’ve had sweating issues since I was about 22. I am now 65. I’ve tried every remedy under the sun, but the symptoms always came back. The doctors said there’s nothing else they can do for me. Two weeks ago, I came across the family planning clinic (which I thought was only for pregnant women). The lady doctor was very understanding and put me on 2.5 mg twice a day. I’ve noticed a slight difference, and it’s great. Next week, I go up to three times a day, and on the following week, I can have 5 mg twice a day. I can’t wait. I definitely say it’ll work for me. Fingers crossed."

"Oxybutynin hydrochloride is amazing. I've had primary and secondary hyperhidrosis since I was around 10 (I'm 24 now) and tried different treatments since I didn't want to take tablets. Finally saw a specialist who recommended Lyrinel XL, so I gave it a go, and it is a miracle. Totally dry at all times unless I'm extra stressed. Only side effect is dry mouth (thirsty the majority of the time!)."

"I'm 52, going through menopause, and also on medication called venlafaxine for my mental health. I sweat so bad, it's destroying my life. My doctor gave me 2.5 twice a day, although this week has upped it to 5 mg twice a day. Has anyone had this, and it hasn't worked? Would really love some help to see what else is out there. Thanks so much."

"I am on another medication for an unrelated medical issue. The medicine I am taking gives me a wide variety of unpleasant side effects, but I need it to get through each day for the time being. One of the major side effects I get from it is uncontrollable sweating and hot flashes. They plagued me multiple times a day on a daily basis, and at work it was the worst having to stop and run to the bathroom to try and remedy it. Ever since being on oxybutynin, my life has gotten much more controllable. I recently went on to 10 mg and believe I had OAB before this because the sweating and hot flashes are gone, but I pee in a much more regular fashion as well."

"Suffer from excessive sweating on my face, and when in a hot climate, it spreads to my back too. I begged for help from my GP, who tried me on propantheline, which left me in agony due to difficulty passing urine and a cystitis-type reaction after 3 days of use. I was then passed to the dermatology department at the hospital, who just said nothing could be done! Oh, the wonder of the UK's NHS!! I was told to try propanano, which again did not work. So, I did my own research and went 'cap in hand' back to my GP and BEGGED to try oxybutynin. He said there was no solid evidence it works and that it's just a placebo for hyperhidrosis. Anyway, he gave in and said I could try 5 mg a day. I started it 5 days ago, and I feel better, so I'm upping the dose to 10 mg (at night), as it makes me drowsy."

"Oxybutynin is a gift from above. I have had an issue with social sweating. It could come on suddenly and was usually associated with trying to hide my true feelings about a situation (i.e., with my boss). It got so bad that I was becoming non-functional at work, I was afraid to meet customers! My doctor put me on beta blockers at first, which had no effect. I found out about oxybutynin and asked to be put on that. The results were immediate and fantastic. Here are some tips: (1) I take it at least 30 minutes before I might need it. (2) One mg or less is highly effective, so I have to divide my pills. (3) 5 mg will cause a 'brain freeze' in me. I will suddenly forget my train of thought. This is embarrassing if you are giving a speech. So, I have learned to be very careful about dosages. It cost me a promotion, I feel. Even at 1 mg, I have urination issues, i.e., not being able to empty my bladder completely. My wife used it through menopause, and it was highly effective for her."

"I decided to have ETS when I was in my early 30s after suffering for many years from acute underarm sweating. While successful, subsequent compensatory sweating (including gustatory sweating) created a whole new set of problems. This has mostly been easier to disguise and manage, but it is a constant worry and a nightmare in the summer months. Twenty years later, I discovered propantheline bromide and then Lyrinel XL. The former did have a noticeable benefit when taken early morning, well before food, but efficacy deteriorated with subsequent top-ups in the day. The Lyrinel XL, if allowed to build up a few days, seems much longer lasting and has fewer side effects. Early days and not a complete cure, but a massive improvement."

"It works! I was suffering from extreme sweating from a side effect of a medication. I was sweating even in cold weather. Having since been put on the extended-release form, my life has returned to normal. The excessive sweating has dissipated after having been on it for a few months. I have no bad side effects at all. I am able to take this at night so when I wake up, it's ready in my system. I am now dry and not drenched in sweat. This truly is a godsend drug!"

"I really wanted this to work for my hyperhidrosis; however, I only took 2.5 mg last night before bed, and today I have found the side effects intolerable: dry eyes, headache, drowsiness, lethargy, dry nose. So, unfortunately, I can't continue on and see if it's effective in reducing my sweating."

"I have suffered from hyperhidrosis since I could remember. The hands and feet didn't really bother me much in the beginning, but about 4 years ago, the armpits started, and it was just depressing. This thing just takes over, and you can't control it. I've tried medicines, Botox, Miradry with no lasting or permanent relief. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, surprise, surprise, it just went downhill from there because 2 years ago it just spread to my entire body. It is just THOUGHT CONSUMING and EMBARRASSING. I just came from my doctor today, and she prescribed oxybutynin, I really hope it works and be one of the lucky ones. Can't wait to start it. Will give an update in a month."

"I have suffered from facial sweating since my teens. I am now 46 and feeling like my life was over. I became suicidal. I was asked often if I'd swum to get there. Just getting out of my car and I would be dripping with sweat. It affected me so much, I stopped going out, stopped seeing people, and basically locked myself in. I started taking this medicine two days ago, and I haven't noticed a difference, but with these reviews, I'm very hopeful."

"I am 59 years old. I have been taking Oxybutynin for approximately 7 years now. Since I was a child, I have always experienced excessive hand and feet sweating. It was so debilitating, especially when needing to shake hands. When I turned 50, I had a ruptured Brain Aneurysm which required me to be in the ICU for a month. I had a catheter for all that time. It caused problems with my bladder. Talking with my internal medical doctor, she thought this drug may help for both of my conditions. Overactive bladder and hyperhidrosis. She was correct. It works like a charm. I take one 5 mg pill in the morning daily. I am so thankful. This has changed my life."

"I just want to say thanks to everyone who left a review with this medication for hyperhidrosis (HH)! I’ve been dealing with HH for years and known to carry fans around and suffer in silence. I was miserable."

"Thank goodness I found oxybutynin. Within 3 days of usage, I'm free from hyperhidrosis. I'm 19 and in college, studying Kinesiology, which can be physically demanding. From my early teenage years, I'd sweat excessively, especially on my palms, either when I'm anxious/nervous or not. I secrete so much sweat, I'd always place an extra sheet of paper under my wrist so I can write without staining or making my book damp. I have a collection of face towels because of my condition. I was always too ashamed to shake hands or even hug anyone. Going to college, I knew my condition was only going to be more of a nightmare, as we do practical physical activities. At times, I don't attend class or would fake an injury because the littlest of activity makes me drip sweat. I am nervous about the public shame this condition caused me because I have sensitive skin, so somehow excessive secretion of sweat gave me discoloration on my hands. I hope the discoloration will heal."
