For Bipolar Disorder "This is a cleaner way of taking Trileptal, it really does make both medication management and the side effects easier to manage. On generic Trileptal, I needed to medicate twice daily, and the morning dose really put me in a fog, not to mention how intense the headaches could get about 30 minutes after my 3x evening dose. Now the headaches still come but are far less intense, and the onset is hours later. Also, the lethargy factor is greatly reduced. I take 900 mg at 6 PM, and I'm ready for bed at 10:30, not focused on getting to my pillow all night like I was previously. This medication does interfere with my ability to urinate within 2 hours of taking it. As for the positives, I'm a rapid cycler, and days are most certainly more stable. Give it time."

For Seizures "Was involved in a serious rollover accident a few years back and started having seizures the day after. Had scans done and my neurologist at the time prescribed me Oxtellar XR (oxcarbazepine) and I was 100% seizure-free. Incredible medicine. I had to discontinue use a while back because I couldn't afford it. To be specific, the price was $500.00 a month so I discontinued use and learned to manage my condition, but my seizures are becoming more frequent again. I am fully conscious during my episodes and it was quite painful. I am 29 and without any insurance and am reaching out for a little insight."

"I have primary Erythromelalgia (EM) People with primary have different variants in the scn9a gene causing their em. These different variants make different meds effective for different individuals. For me oxtellar XR was MUCH more effective than mexiletine and caused fewer side effects. I need a high dosage but that’s expected. First medicine to lower/slow my SEVERE flare progression."

"I diagnosed myself with Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) in March of 2020, interment till I went to the dentist in July, sought treatment in September. Started out with 150mg's, because the pain was tolerable currently up to 450 mg which is a low dose. Currently, having severe break through pain for the past week. Touching my head, rubbing my eye, putting on and taking off makeup, brushing my teeth and finally eating all within one week. I am petrified of the pain, which would give anyone anxiety. I tolerate the side effects. Surgery is a last resort for me, but if the medication stops working, I'll be ready for the surgery."

"i switched to this from Trileptal. Trileptal is used off label in the treatment of bipolar disorder and i have cyclothymic episodes in addition to ADHD. My experience with Oxtellar specifically is that it is an improvement over taking instant-release Trileptal. with the IR, I felt it would wear off and reach full strength at inconsistent intervals over the day and that led to spikes in anxiety, physical tension, headaches, mood changes, pretty much everything characteristic of withdrawing from an anticonvulsant. pros are i have been able to deal with triggers with depressive and anger episodes better. my side effects are feeling tired. this pill has caused sodium problems that I take supplements for. With Depakote i felt like more of a people person and inviting but with this medicine i feel like more of the same introvert in terms of always walking with stiff toes. with depakote i didnt have a problem looking people in the eyes and that is sadly absent with this therapy"

For Seizures "I've been on Oxtellar XR 1200 mg/day for several years and it completely controls my partial seizures. I have not noticed any ill side effects. I had been on Trileptal before, but it made me sleepy for a few hours after taking it, and Oxtellar XR does not tire me out. It is very expensive if you don't have a decent prescription plan. As far as I know, there is no generic equivalent available."
