"I recently went in for an eye exam and was told my eyes were dry. Optometrist told me to start using systane ultra a few times a day. In the first 4 days of use I've noticed my vision blurred and my contacts bothering me substantially. I've been using the same brand contacts for years and nothing else has changed, so it has to be the drops."

For Eye Redness "I have used Systane for about 9 weeks and have been experiencing severe swelling and irritation of my eyelids, including splitting of the skin and drying out of the sore areas. Have narrowed down the cause as Systane, and not blepharitis."

For Dry Eye Disease "Two years after an "outbreak" of dry eye had come and gone I went to the eye Dr. inquiring about lasek and long story short, she told me I should start and continue using eye drops because my dry eye could flare up again and etc etc For whatever reason I listened to this stupid advice and started using Systane even though I would normally think "why tx it if it's not even a problem. Well, the first day of using Systane, my dry eye symptoms all came back and I've been dealing full blown dry eye, tearing like crazy, raw in the corner of my eye, and eye lashes falling out from constant moisture and itching all night. THANKS DOC.! and Systane."

For Dry Eye Disease "My optometrist suggested I use Systane Ultra in the evening try ease my mild dry eye issues. She suggested that we do not produce tears while sleeping and these were more long lasting than the usual eye drops used for dry eyes. I immediately noticed my eyes were dryer and itchier than normal. I would not recommend these drops , have discarded them, and have informed my optometrist of my experience."

For Eye Redness "Was prescribed this for dry eyes by optometrist, told to use twice daily. Ever since 1st use, eyes stung and got extremely red, vision got worse, blurry vision, redness, itchy, and sensitivity to light. Did not realize it was this until I stopped use. Was told to use every 2 hours and vision was getting worse. This product did not work for me."

"Doctor said my eyes were dry and scratched. Said to use Systane. Now my eyes are dry, scratched, puffy, and red. Eyes worse now then before Systane. Will never, ever use this product again. Into the garbage go these overpriced eye drops. They said other drops were all marketing - guess what, my eyes didn't get puffy and red. "

"I used Systane eye drops for my dry eye and right away noticed that my vision was blurry so I stopped using and at the same time my eye lashes on both eyes fell out. I was puzzled more about the lashes than anything as it was very concerning. My eyelashes grew back in about 2 months, and one morning I grabbed what I thought was my re-wetting drops only it was the Systane. I put it in one eye when I immediately realized that I used the wrong bottle, and guess what.....in about 2 days, my eyelashes in the eye I used the Systane fell out again!!! Very upset about this!! I threw the bottle in trash which is what I should have done in the 1st place...."

For Dry Eye Disease "I usually use Thera Tears but picked up the new Systane Balance on sale. I thought I was going crazy but my eyelashes started falling out! I couldn’t figure out why until I switched back to Thera Tears and they’re finally growing back. Never again!"

For Dry Eye Disease "I was advised to use Systane ultra gel for dry eyes. I woke up one morning and my eyes were blood red! I stopped using Systane for a few days and I was fine. A week later my eyes became dry during the night so I used the Systane. Sure enough, the next morning my eyes were blood red again. In the trash is where these drops will go."

"In preparation for cataract surgery my ophthalmologist told me to use Systane four times a day. After the first eye was done I was also told to use it in the operated eye for irritation as needed. So now after repeated use and both eyes getting worse and worse in terms of dryness , irritation and light sensitivity I finally had the DUH moment and figured out the Systane was making my eyes miserable. It's now been about 19 hours since I stopped the drops and both eyes are SO, SO much improved. Maybe this stuff is okay for an occasional dose, but most certainly not repeatedly."

For Dry Eye Disease "I’ve only used these drops a few times for my dry eyes, as doc recommended, but what I find is they seem like they are just “sitting on top” of my eye without actually absorbing for a long time. Does not feel hydrating, more like irritating. I don’t have any problems with itching or burning, but they do seem to make my eyes blurrier after I put them in for quite a while, and my eyes will not focus as well. Last night, when I was driving home at night after using these about an hour prior to that, it was harder to see and the lights had more of a halo effect. I have had much better luck with simple artificial tear drops."

For Dry Eye Disease "Ophthalmologist recommended Systane drops for my dry eyes. My eyes feel even more dry immediately after using the drops. I’ve tried for several months using different formulas and it’s just gotten worse. I would not recommend these drops."

For Eye Redness "Systane (Long lasting) makes my eyes blurry and they stay blurry for quite a long time. However, Systane Ultra is just terrific. I have been using it for, for glaucoma with dry eyes, a couple of years now and find that it relaxes my eyes, as well as moisturizes them. The Systane (Long lasting) was purchased in error. Went back and got the Systane Ultra again and all is great. I highly recommend it for dry eye problems."

For Dry Eye Disease "A year ago, I was given a small bottle sample of Systane for my dry eyes. But I seldom used it and I observed most of the time my vision is blurry. Recently, after getting a pair of glasses, Optometrist prescribed Systane to me for dry eyes. So I finally bought a twin pack. Been using it occasional days for 2 weeks. and feeling light burning sensation. On the 3rd week, I used it 5 days in a row and on the 3rd day, I started seeing 3-4 dots gray-black floaters in my one eye. On the 5th day, I woke up with too many floaters plus a web like sticky vision that moves whenever I move my eye from left to right. I went back to the Optometrist and relayed about my floaters. She advised me to see an Opthalmologist asap. I even asked her maybe it was caused by Systane and she said, no, Systane doesn't cause floaters. But why I got floaters suddenly after days of using Systane?. Why they are prescribing this to people if it cause eye damage?? I wish someone should investigate this product."

For Dry Eye Disease "Have used Systane Ultra for a few years & found it to be helpful for dry eyes. Since the nozzle of the dispenser has been changed to a flatter design, I find I'm wasting more than using it effectively, even though I follow the dispensing instructions. The drops don't dispense properly as they did with the longer nozzle, with the drops running down the side of the bottle & missing the eyes completely. Hopefully, this problem will be rectified by a change of design back to the original nozzle shape."

For Dry Eye Disease "Side effects HORRIFIC..bloodshot eyes, pain, unbelievable itching..that almost had my eye surgery cancelled. Opthamologist claims it is because only the individual applicators are the only ones that are PRESERVATIVE FREE..and that is what caused the adverse terrible effects. What was worse...the skin under my eyes were literally burnt to a crisp after using 1 week. Ultra, Gel drops and nighttime gel all caused same terrible results...Read carefully what Alcon writes..Preservative free is ONLY in the individual packets..."

For Dry Eye Disease "I had a routine eye appointment with an optometrist yesterday (Saturday) and he recommended Systane Ultra. I used it twice and can no longer see through my glasses - everything is blurry (Sunday) 24 hours later. I'm not using it again and I'm going to go see an ophthalmologist tomorrow. I'm worried it damaged my vision; I hope it goes back to normal."

For Dry Eye Disease "It took me long enough to notice what the culprit was and thought I should warn others. A few years back I started using Systane for dry eye comfort and my left eye got extremely blurry and would not clear. It took months to clear after I stopped using the product, then I was diagnosed with cataracts and had cataract surgery. My eyesight was never so clear till I tried systane again … guess what my vision in the same eye got blurred so I went to see my doctor who told me laser surgery will clear it… fast forward covid hit so six months passed and it cleared by itself after 6 months. Not realizing that systane is the culprit I used it again 2 months ago … guess what? Complete blurry vision in my left eye again for two months now and going … I don’t see how they haven’t been in a class action lawsuit yet for blinding people!!!!! Stay far away from this product"

For Dry Eye Disease "Started using Sustane Complete after the pharmacist recommended it to help with the sudden appearance of floaters. I made an appointment with an optometrist a week away. I started getting light streaks that night after two doses, but I didn't make the connection. Blurry vision as well. I thought it had something to do with the floaters. After a week I had a complete Retinal scan and eye test and was all clear. Nothing wrong. The floaters were normal. I mentioned the light streaks and he said to keep watch for them but he could see no reason for them. I did not mention I was using Systane. On a whim, I decided to look up the side effects. I was shocked and somewhat relieved, that others had the same symptoms...light streaks and blurry vision. Sweet Jesus! This stuff is dangerous! I threw it out...and hope the light streaks stop."

For Dry Eye Disease "I just started using the Systane Complete PF today for my dry eye symptoms. First time I used it this morning it was fine, but when I used it again this evening, I started to feel bad soreness in the back of my left eye which is something that I didn't have before using these drops and it also feels like my eyes are drier than they were before I put the drops in! I think I will be looking for a different drop to help my symptoms."

"I had a tear in my retina and needed to use a good eye drop after my laser surgery. I started using these drops and experienced horrible cramping and diarrhea. My doctor said she had never heard of that side effect but when I googled the active ingredient, it’s used as a laxative! I’m stopping today and finding other drops."

For Dry Eye Disease "My eye doctor prescribed Systane for dry Eye, I started using the product right after my exam once a day and since then I had issues with my Eyes. Some kind of dizziness, sensitivity to light and some eventual blurry vision and pain on the back of my eyes, it came and go. Went back to the doctor at one week to check what was going on as I did not present any of those symptoms before the eye exam. The eye doctor said that I was not using the drops enough times a day!. So, I used them more!. But I started noticing that weird sensation in my eyes after I used them, like very heavy eyes that will last hours. So I started to decrease the use of the drops, and my eyes seem to be getting better but I still have the heaviness that comes from time to time. So I started to research because I have been dealing with this for almost a month and by reading this reviews I am almost sure it is the drops!. I am not using them anymore . Thank God it was not such a long time."
