"Use it to clear my dry eyes and thought it's doing good. But no... I am experiencing blurred vision now. Reading all the reviews, I have proven it is from the use of this Systane Balance eye drop. So sad... instead of helping my eyes, it made it worse."

"My optometrist suggested I use Systane Ultra in the evening to try to ease my mild dry eye issues. She suggested that we do not produce tears while sleeping and these were more long-lasting than the usual eye drops used for dry eyes. I immediately noticed my eyes were drier and itchier than normal. I would not recommend these drops, have discarded them, and have informed my optometrist of my experience."

"Two years after an 'outbreak' of dry eye had come and gone, I went to the eye Dr. inquiring about LASEK, and long story short, she told me I should start and continue using eye drops because my dry eye could flare up again, etc., etc. For whatever reason, I listened to this stupid advice and started using Systane, even though I would normally think, 'Why treat it if it's not even a problem?' Well, the first day of using Systane, my dry eye symptoms all came back, and I've been dealing with full-blown dry eye, tearing like crazy, raw in the corner of my eye, and eyelashes falling out from constant moisture and itching all night. THANKS, DOC.! and Systane."

"The product works well for my dry eye, but the new nano droplet design is terrible. I keep missing my eye. The drops run down the side and all over, contaminating the drop. I wasted half the bottle because the drops did not go in my eye."

"Ophthalmologist recommended Systane drops for my dry eyes. My eyes feel even more dry immediately after using the drops. I’ve tried for several months using different formulas, and it’s just gotten worse. I would not recommend these drops."

"I usually use Thera Tears but picked up the new Systane Balance on sale. I thought I was going crazy, but my eyelashes started falling out! I couldn’t figure out why until I switched back to Thera Tears, and they’re finally growing back. Never again!"

"Have used Systane Ultra for a few years and found it to be helpful for dry eyes. Since the nozzle of the dispenser has been changed to a flatter design, I find I'm wasting more than using it effectively, even though I follow the dispensing instructions. The drops don't dispense properly as they did with the longer nozzle, with the drops running down the side of the bottle and missing the eyes completely. Hopefully, this problem will be rectified by a change of design back to the original nozzle shape."

"I had a routine eye appointment with an optometrist yesterday (Saturday), and he recommended Systane Ultra. I used it twice and can no longer see through my glasses - everything is blurry (Sunday) 24 hours later. I'm not using it again, and I'm going to go see an ophthalmologist tomorrow. I'm worried it damaged my vision; I hope it goes back to normal."

"I was advised to use Systane Ultra gel for dry eyes. I woke up one morning and my eyes were blood red! I stopped using Systane for a few days, and I was fine. A week later, my eyes became dry during the night, so I used the Systane. Sure enough, the next morning my eyes were blood red again. In the trash is where these drops will go."

"It took me long enough to notice what the culprit was and thought I should warn others. A few years back, I started using Systane for dry eye comfort, and my left eye got extremely blurry and would not clear. It took months to clear after I stopped using the product, then I was diagnosed with cataracts and had cataract surgery. My eyesight was never so clear until I tried Systane again … guess what? My vision in the same eye got blurred, so I went to see my doctor, who told me laser surgery will clear it… fast forward, COVID hit, so six months passed and it cleared by itself after six months. Not realizing that Systane is the culprit, I used it again two months ago … guess what? Complete blurry vision in my left eye again for two months now and going … I don’t see how they haven’t been in a class action lawsuit yet for blinding people!!!!! Stay far away from this product."

"I just started using the Systane Complete PF today for my dry eye symptoms. The first time I used it this morning, it was fine, but when I used it again this evening, I started to feel bad soreness in the back of my left eye, which is something that I didn't have before using these drops, and it also feels like my eyes are drier than they were before I put the drops in! I think I will be looking for a different drop to help my symptoms."

"A year ago, I was given a small bottle sample of Systane for my dry eyes. But I seldom used it, and I observed most of the time my vision is blurry. Recently, after getting a pair of glasses, the optometrist prescribed Systane to me for dry eyes. So I finally bought a twin pack. Been using it on occasional days for 2 weeks and feeling a light burning sensation. On the 3rd week, I used it for 5 days in a row, and on the 3rd day, I started seeing 3-4 gray-black floaters in one eye. On the 5th day, I woke up with too many floaters plus a web-like sticky vision that moves whenever I move my eye from left to right. I went back to the optometrist and relayed about my floaters. She advised me to see an ophthalmologist ASAP. I even asked her maybe it was caused by Systane, and she said no, Systane doesn't cause floaters. But why did I get floaters suddenly after days of using Systane? Why are they prescribing this to people if it causes eye damage? I wish someone would investigate this product."

"Side effects horrific. Bloodshot eyes, pain, unbelievable itching that almost had my eye surgery canceled. Ophthalmologist claims it is because only the individual applicators are the only ones that are preservative-free, and that is what caused the adverse terrible effects. What was worse, the skin under my eyes was literally burnt to a crisp after using 1 week. Ultra, gel drops, and nighttime gel all caused the same terrible results. Read carefully what Alcon writes: preservative-free is only in the individual packets."

"I’ve only used these drops a few times for my dry eyes, as the doc recommended, but what I find is they seem like they are just “sitting on top” of my eye without actually absorbing for a long time. Does not feel hydrating, more like irritating. I don’t have any problems with itching or burning, but they do seem to make my eyes blurrier after I put them in for quite a while, and my eyes will not focus as well. Last night, when I was driving home at night after using these about an hour prior to that, it was harder to see and the lights had more of a halo effect. I have had much better luck with simple artificial tear drops."

"I only used Systane for 3 days for mild blepharitis. It caused blurriness and extremely pronounced puffiness under the eyes (with a red vein very pronounced). It also caused a migraine. Over-the-counter allergy pills seem to have a better effect on relieving most of the symptoms. Will not use it again."

"I bought a two-pack of your new complete from my eye doctor, and I used it a few days. Each time, a bad burning in both eyes. Can't use it. I would like to make others aware of this product and for you to figure it out. I switched to TheraTears with no problems."

"Started using Systane Complete after the pharmacist recommended it to help with the sudden appearance of floaters. I made an appointment with an optometrist a week away. I started getting light streaks that night after two doses, but I didn't make the connection. Blurry vision as well. I thought it had something to do with the floaters. After a week, I had a complete retinal scan and eye test and was all clear. Nothing wrong. The floaters were normal. I mentioned the light streaks, and he said to keep watch for them, but he could see no reason for them. I did not mention I was using Systane. On a whim, I decided to look up the side effects. I was shocked and somewhat relieved that others had the same symptoms...light streaks and blurry vision. Sweet Jesus! This stuff is dangerous! I threw it out...and hope the light streaks stop."

"My eye doctor prescribed Systane for dry eye. I started using the product right after my exam, once a day, and since then I had issues with my eyes. Some kind of dizziness, sensitivity to light, and some eventual blurry vision and pain in the back of my eyes, it came and went. I went back to the doctor after one week to check what was going on, as I did not present any of those symptoms before the eye exam. The eye doctor said that I was not using the drops enough times a day. So, I used them more. But I started noticing that weird sensation in my eyes after I used them, like very heavy eyes that would last for hours. So I started to decrease the use of the drops, and my eyes seemed to be getting better, but I still have the heaviness that comes from time to time. So I started to research because I have been dealing with this for almost a month, and by reading these reviews, I am almost sure it is the drops. I am not using them anymore. Thank God it was not such a long time."

"I actually just did a search, “Systane causing grainy residue,” and I was shocked to find that other people have had side effects from these drops. I have also experienced worsened itching, burning, and blurred vision. I will not use these. I will inform the optometrist who recommended it."

"Just picked a bottle of 'Complete' based on a doctor's recommendation. The bottle's in the trash after a second use. The eyes felt MUCH worse after use than before. Maybe the gel would be better, but with $10 up in smoke, it won't be Systane."

"So glad I found this site. I have had dry eyes for years. I used different kinds of eye drops, but mostly Systane Ultra and gel. Three months ago, I had YAG laser treatment for post-cataract surgery. Ever since then, I had cloudy vision due to floaters. One month ago, we moved, and I only had the Systane Ultra on hand, not the gel. So I just used Ultra. The floaters started clearing up. Three days ago, I bought the gel and started using it. Now the floaters are back. I am going to trash all the Systane bottles and find something that won't affect my vision."

"Has severe dry eyes and my eye doctor recommended the Systane Gel Eye drops - they were uncomfortable at first to use as they seemed to make my vision a bit blurry and eyelashes sticky, but prior to using them, my eye doctor had warned me of this and recommended taking it once only before bed instead. It's a medication that isn't really supposed to be used long-term and multiple times a day (I've seen other comments where people have apparently been told to use them 4 times a day for 4 weeks, which sounds very excessive...). All in all, Systane worked well for me as I didn't use it frequently as per my eye doctor's recommendation. It would be blurry and a bit 'sticky' before bed, but in the morning my eyes did feel less scratchy, and I supplemented these with other single-use eyedrops during the day to keep my eyes nice and wet. So far so good! I've been told to use it for only two weeks and no more than that, so one more week to go and no real ill effects so far."

"I notice this week my eyes were dry, I placed 2 eye drops of Systane Ultra High Performing Dry Eye Relief in each of my eyes. Within minutes, the back right side of my head began to hurt and throb. I knew this eye drop caused the pain. I read about the main ingredient polyethylene glycol 400 0.4 can cause head pain."

"I was using Systane Ultra and Complete as recommended by my eye specialist. I also use Azopt and Lumigan drops for glaucoma. I had been using the glaucoma drops for at least 2 years without problems. Shortly after starting to use the Systane, it became very uncomfortable installing the Azopt and Lumigan drops. After approx. a couple of months of Systane use, I decided to try to figure out why my eyes had become so sensitive to light and why it hurt so much when installing my glaucoma drops. I stopped the use of Systane, and after a couple of days or so, no more eye stinging or sensitivity to light. Not everyone will have my same problems, but just giving Systane users a heads up.....Don Little"

"I do not like Systane UD, as it does not help my dry eye. The drops are too thick and do not dissolve too easily in the eye. It makes my eye and around it too sticky, and I have to wash the eyelid after use. It gives me more gritty eyes. Unfortunately, I bought three boxes in one go but had to stop using them after a few days. I have to bin the rest of these expensive eye drops. Never again buy any Systane products."
