For High Blood Pressure "Nifedipine XL 30 mg: Worst feeling on this medication! On it because I want to fall pregnant, very few hypertensives on the market that are safe. - This medication increased my HR by 20 bpm on the first day. - The second day was similar, and my BP only remained down in the morning, not evening (which is typical for me anyway without meds). - Third day contemplated stopping due to the BPM increasing, and I should have. I called a paramedic because my resting HR got to 120-130 BPM, triggered anxiety, felt chest fluttering, and flushed feeling and funny sensation as if my heart would give out or pass out. Upon checking my BP: 180/120!!! How can a medication trigger anxiety-type effects and not control BP? This was all provoked by the medication, it was only at the 11-12h mark did I start to feel better. My usual BPM is 65-75. I will not continue this medication. An effect like that is very harmful for myself, I cannot imagine what it could do to the child if I had conceived on this med!"

For High Blood Pressure "Doctor started me on 60 mg to control my BP, later increased to 90 mg. The drug worked great in controlling my BP, and I had no side effects for about 3 months. Then the ankle swelling started. It got to a point where I was limping, and it was painful to walk down stairs. Doctor decreased dosage to 30 mg and added Coversyl about 2 months ago. Ankle swelling is almost gone, and mobility in my ankles is almost back to 100%."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I suffer from acute Raynaud's, in that I suffer it 24/7, even if in the warm, my feet especially can turn into ''blocks of ice,'' and I have painful stiffness of the hands and feet and a painful tingling rotating from one to the other all the time. If I get cold, it is much worse. I was initially put on nifedipine 5 mg three times a day, which helped with the worst symptoms for two months, but the body adapted and it no longer helped as much. After tests, my GP raised the dosage to 10 mg three times a day, which has helped the Raynaud's somewhat, but I cannot cope with the side effects of dizziness, sternum pain, and extreme exhaustion, so I will have to revert to the lesser dosage of 5 mg, which doesn't help me really. I am most disappointed and frustrated and wonder if there is any other help out there?"

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on Nifedipine 30 mg ER (CC) for 4 months and could not figure out why I felt terrible all day long with severe dizziness, increased pulse, palpitations, shakiness, and swelling in feet and ankles. I called my doctor, and he told me to stop taking the dosage in the morning because I take a dose in the morning and evening. He also stated Nifedipine stays in your system for 12 hours, no wonder I was severely dizzy. This medication needs to be off the market. The plan is to stop it altogether and try another medication for my high blood pressure."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "The past several winters, the tips of some of my toes turned black and were ice cold, but would return to normal when the weather warmed up. I had tests done at a vascular specialist and had some diminished circulation to my feet, but nothing that required any type of surgery. I was prescribed nifedipine, and within a week or two, my toes returned to normal and my feet were much warmer. I only take this drug during the colder months."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I am 55 years of age and have primary Raynaud's. Onset was at about age 45, and for many years, I just wore multiple pairs of gloves and used hand warmers when out in cold weather or avoided cold weather activity. I finally asked my doctor about medication when it became difficult to even grocery shop in the freezer section or go to stores and restaurants that were very cool. I was tired of wearing gloves in the summer! I have taken nifedipine for about nine months (all winter), and it has been great. No side effects to report and even notice that I have a better sense of touch when feeling for pulses (I am a nurse)."

For High Blood Pressure "I get stomach cramps, a growling gurgling sound, passing gas a lot, urinate frequently, mucus in my stool, I even pass the pill in my stool whole. I am scared to take it, but it works for my blood pressure. I will see my Dr today to report it. On it now for 3 months."

For High Blood Pressure "Been taking Nifedipine and Lisinopril for 10 years or more, Dr. raised my Nifedipine to 90 mg from 30 mg. My ankles swell to the size of a grapefruit during the day. I take it at night, and I urinate about 5 times, and I mean urinate. By morning my ankles look normal, but it starts all over again! I take Lasix too with little results to the swelling. See Dr. tomorrow and will switch to something not sure?"

Procardia (nifedipine) for Raynaud's Syndrome "I started the nifedipine/Procardia this morning. About 4 hours later, the rare side effects kicked in. Heart palpitations, dizziness, headache, and I was FREEZING. Even at 43, I still call my mommy. She wasn't thrilled I was going to take it anyway since I have perfect blood pressure. But she recommended laying on my left side. That did help, even if it did take a while for me to get warm again. The headache is still lingering."

For High Blood Pressure "I was put on this medication after the birth of my daughter. It controlled my blood pressure to a point, keeping it around 135/92, which was an improvement. I experienced leg pain and swelling in my legs and ankles, dizziness, and a feeling of being out of it. I went off it and on lisinopril and feel better. My blood pressure is now, on average, 120/80."

For High Blood Pressure "My blood pressure is very high, and the cardiologist suggested taking Nifedipine, Losartan, and Chlorthalidone. I only took 1 pill of Nifedipine 60 mg, and 3 hours later, I was on my way to the ER. I felt something stuck in my throat and had a hard time breathing. My hands, legs, and feet were completely numb, I felt needles in my hands, as well as weakness and pressure in my lower back. Never ever taking this med again. I do not care if they say it works, but for me, it was killing me."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I do not have circulation issues, but I do have Raynaud's, likely as a result of lupus. I also have BP on the low side. I take this once a day in the winter and have not noticed any of the side effects mentioned (headaches, dizziness), but my already bad leg/foot cramps get much worse -- sometimes debilitating. To counteract that, I take magnesium in the form of Calm at night... my cramps are much better!! I guess I recommend both... I am wondering what time of day is best to take this... I can have sleep issues and don't want to make that worse."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I rated this at 50% because I'm not quite sure what's going on and how I feel about it. I have Raynaud's syndrome, and my hands and feet are constantly cold, blue, white, etc. If I'm in the heat or long showers, my feet turn bright red and get painful. If I'm doing physical activities, my hands get red and swollen. Anyway, I took this medicine for the first time at about 8:30 last night. It's now 4 AM, and my feet are bright red, swollen, and painful, and my only minor relief is to keep my feet elevated (which can get tricky at work). They are warm, and my hands are warm, which is much different than usual, but this swelling is very bothersome. I'm not sure which is worse-before the meds or now. Right now, I think I'd rather take the cold."

Nifedical XL (nifedipine) for Raynaud's Syndrome "I've been taking this medication for quite a while for Raynaud's. I was concerned about my naturally low blood pressure, but the doctor said it wouldn't be affected. Seems that is the case. As far as Raynaud's, there are a few medicines I take that I describe as 'I'm sure it helps, I'm not sure how much, don't want to find out what it's like without it.' Also, my Raynaud's is accompanied by mixed connective tissue disease to complicate matters."

Adalat (nifedipine) for Raynaud's Syndrome "I took this for my Raynaud's, and it did help when it was cold, but when I was warm, I found myself getting really hot and sweaty when no one else was. Another thing is DO NOT DRINK WHILE ON THIS TABLET! I did one night and had lots of problems. Apart from that, it does what it says."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I have been taking 1 tablet of nifedipine XL 30 mg ER for almost 2 years. I stop in the summer and start again when it gets cold, and that works well for me. I haven't had any of the side effects, such as rashes or headaches, but I have been very tired, and now that I think of it, it's probably because I've been taking it during the day instead of at night like I used to. The only problem with that is if you like to have a cocktail, and for times like that, I just don't take it."

For High Blood Pressure "30 mg twice a day, blood pressure averages 140/85. 60 mg twice a day blood pressure averages 112/69. After 6 hours, blood pressure goes up to 170/110. Unfortunate side effect of erectile dysfunction. 20 mg of Levitra helps a little. Doctor is now trying me on Terazosin, so we'll see."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I have been dealing with Raynaud's for 15 years. I live in the South, so for 4 months a year, I invest in those hot packs to keep my fingers warm when outside. I also use warm water to warm up my fingers and toes. I love to snow ski but pretty much gave that up. I tried various medications hoping to find something that would help. Amlodipine did not help me. I also tried a couple of other drugs that didn't work. I saw this site and asked my doctor for nifedipine, and I'm taking the one that you take 3 times a day, 10 mg each. It started working the first day! A week later, it still works! I haven't had to run warm water over my fingers, they haven't turned white or my toes! Because I enjoy wine and after reading some of the other reviews, I asked my doctor if I could just take two a day (7 am and 2 pm), and she said that was fine. I have had no problems with doing this for the last 4 days. I plan to just take this med during the cold months only."

For High Blood Pressure "I was put on nifedipine 60 mg twice a day two months ago. I had been taking clonidine 0.3 mg for years. The nifedipine does lower my blood pressure, but not as low as it used to be. Now it runs 145/65. The problem is the terrible fluid retention in my legs and ankles. I am relatively slender, and I gained almost 20 lbs in fluid since I started on nifedipine. I can barely walk by the end of the day. I stopped taking it a few days ago (I still take my clonidine) and will be switching to something else tomorrow with my doctor. Just not worth it."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on 30 mg Nifedipine for almost 2 months now. I feel warmth (something like a low-grade heat) on the left side of my body from face to toe. The symptoms seem to go away if I miss a dose for a day or two. I am also on Valsartan, but I do not believe that it is the cause of these symptoms, as I have been on Valsartan for more than 2 years and have never had these symptoms. It has completely killed my libido and erection. I will have to contact my doctor to find a remedy, or I will drop this medication. My blood pressure control has not been that effective (averaging 130/85 and I am only 53) for me to trade sexual enjoyment."

For High Blood Pressure "Nifedipine did drop my high blood pressure. But I also felt tired, lousy, dizzy, difficulty sleeping, lightheaded, shortness of breath (used Ventolin to get a full breath), and my doctor said to stop it after two weeks now. I hope there are other options. Lisinopril seems to be a favorite among my peers. Wish me luck."

For High Blood Pressure "Dr. increased my Lisinopril from 10 mg 2x daily to 20 mg 2x daily, yet BP high. Dr. added Nifedipine Extended Release 30 mg 2x daily. First pill PM: 1/2 hour very warm face, mild headache, voice changed. 1 hour BP down, I was thrilled. Face stayed warm, ears felt a bit itchy, throat sore, plugged, voice raspy. 2nd pill in AM: face very warm, throat sore, ears itchy, BP still down. Felt good about results and figured side effects better than high BP. THEN third pill in PM: very sore throat, voice cuts in and out, raspy, and I lose my voice 50% of words said. Feels like my throat is cut with razors. Mild headache, ears feel plugged, face very warm, throat swollen under jaw, both sides (balls size of walnuts), can’t sleep, it is 1 AM and my husband is monitoring me as I lay with a bag of frozen corn on my neck to help reduce swelling and throat pain. I won't take another and feel like if I did, my throat would close off. Bottom of my mouth feels fluid-filled and fleshy."

For Premature Labor "I was given this medication at 36 weeks of pregnancy because they tried to stop the contractions. My doctor suggested this medication as a last resort. I was admitted a week later with no fetal heartbeat. Subsequently, this medication stopped the blood flow to the placenta, ultimately causing my son Jayden to have a heart attack. It was not given approval to be administered on pregnant females and was in testing phases for preterm labor. This drug has cost me a lifetime of agony."
