"I’m eighteen and just had my first yeast infection due to an antibiotic. While the YI irritation is... irritating, it's NOTHING compared to the torture that you can experience if you use M1. Thirty minutes in, the itching increased. Thinking this was normal, I did an internet search for reviews. By the time I realized my mistake, I was too far gone. I live in a dorm, and the pain was so bad I had to get to the showers. Showering helps, but staying in there forever isn’t an option. I read that an ice pack was helpful. But alas, I don’t have a freezer. And of course, there is nothing in the communal fridge. I ended up purchasing old-fashioned popsicles and am hoping to help another poor soul make a better decision - with two popsicles wrapped in paper towels between my legs. Long story short - love yourself. Don’t use this. But if you do, rinse and any form of ice pack you can get your hands on."

"O...M...G... Called my gynnie, and she says, 'try the Monistat and come in Monday.' I bought the Monistat 1 day ovule, and 2 hrs later I'm lying in bed squeezing my legs and vag walls together trying to alleviate the itch! What started out as a mild itch intensified times 10. I wouldn't wish this pain and agony on my worst enemy! Meanwhile, my boyfriend is snoring and sleeping in pure bliss. Being a woman really blows sometimes."

"I'm currently lying in bed with a bag of corn between my legs, praying I can catch my train on time. The burning and itching are so freaking intense, I wish I could take my vag off and wash it in my sink. My YI was pretty mild, but I couldn't get the ovule very far up my vagina. This burning itch is so much worse than my initial infection. Hopefully, it goes away soon."

"Antibiotics always give me a YI, but I never learn... I finished a round of Augmentin last Tuesday. On Friday, I felt a little itchy/burny on my outer vulva, so I requested a Diflucan script from my doc. Took the Diflucan Saturday morning. By Monday, everything from the rawness to the chunks had gotten worse, so Tuesday morning I set out to buy this little gem. Inserted at 9:30 a.m. Had to pee at 11:15 a.m., and that seemed to be the accelerant. Yes, it burns. Yes, it’s super uncomfortable. I had to leave work and come home. But by 2 p.m., I was chipper and burn-free. It’s now 11 p.m., and my lady bits feel about 95% back to normal. Granted, the Diflucan also probably helped that a bit. But nothing works like the ovule. I know it’s a “day or night” dose, but I do not recommend trying to be a daytime hero battling this egg internally. It’s a dose of medicine that they also sell spread out over three or seven days. Of course, it’s gonna be a lot more intense. But it WORKS."

"Let me preface by saying that I have a generally high pain tolerance. I took the Monistat ovule combo pack around 12:45 PM, and within two hours, I felt slight relief. I continued to run errands, etc. There is a slight uncomfortable feeling, and it felt like my vagina was slightly swollen, but it wasn’t painful. Around 3 PM, I decided to go to the gym, and that was the WORST decision ever. Once you are active, the Monistat begins to burn and itch like anything. I wanted to wipe it out so many times, but I fought through it. Throughout the course of the day, I felt very uncomfortable, and it only helped when I was sitting down that the pain slightly subsided. Fast forward to the next day in the morning. I have hardly any symptoms, and I feel extremely better. This product is not for everyone if you can’t handle some uncomfortable sensations for a while. Personally, for me, I would use it again just for the quick convenience."

"I'll just discuss the repercussions of this OTC medicine. Without doing any research, I purchased Monistat 1 ovule, and I regret making such a big mistake. Twenty-four hours after using, I had severe swelling, soreness, itching, and irritation of the entire vulva. Indescribable pain when I urinated because my skin had ruptured in certain areas. I thought that I just had a resistant yeast infection, but after seeing my OB/GYN, I came to the realization I had an allergic reaction. She thought I had herpes based on my symptoms and an examination, but it's not possible because I'm married, and my husband and I have been faithful. I was basically bedridden for three days, in debilitating pain. It's been almost a week now and my 'lady business' is still healing."

"Inserted the 1-day Monistat ovule at 11:30, and I woke up at 2 AM with tears because of the burning. The reviews on here stopped me from going to the emergency room, but I haven’t found anything to stop the burning and itching. Would absolutely not recommend, regardless of how well it clears the infection."

"I don’t know anything about the egg like the other users. I used Monistat 1 day cream before reading these reviews, but it was one vial to insert. Simple, easy, slight itching an hour after, but no issues since."

"So I noticed after taking antibiotics I had started itching down there. Decided to use the Equate brand vaginal insert thing. I was driving down the road and literally felt like I was starting to push a 15 lb baby that was on fire out of my vagina. Needless to say, it was all I could do to get back home and shower. Everything is super red/purple and hurts 10,000 times worse than before using the product. Never again!!"

"I am begging you to NOT use this Monistat product. After inserting Monistat 1, a burning and terrible itchy sensation started. I have been in and out of the shower 3 times within the past half hour with the shower nozzle on full blast. I literally feel like somebody put poison ivy up there. I am so desperate, I tried taking the thing out, but unfortunately, it must have dissolved right away. Do yourself a favor and do not take this. All I want to do is sleep, and thanks to this hideous product, I'm in agony.....happy Mother's Day to me....NOT."

"DO NOT BUY. The first hour was fine. The second. OH MY VAGINA. It itches and burns like you can’t even imagine. Maybe go with the Monistat 3. Definitely not the 1. Really regretting this as I am miserable at 2:00 AM, and I’ve taken Benadryl and melatonin just to try and sleep this off..."

"Thank you a million times to all you other ladies who posted! 2100 hour inserted ovulation and went to bed. 0015 awoke to burning, urgent need to pee. Soooooo tender!!! Had to use a damp washcloth to blot myself dry, the thought of wiping with toilet paper was frightening. 0020 - 0200 burning increased, it started to spread backwards as the lava flowed out...ahhh, the burning there as well! 0200 up and looking at side effects/reviews. 0210 in the shower doing squats to push out any remaining medication. Cool water and mild soap. Gentle blotting to dry. 0235, in my kitchen sitting on a wonderful ice pack! THANK YOU ALL FOR POSTING! I thought I would have to go to the ER for this horrible reaction."

"Well, I wish I had read reviews before using Monistat. A nightmare. Why is this even on the market? Seems to be a torture device. And it cost a lot of money, to boot! Do not ever use this product. Will never, ever use again. If I had had any choice and the drugstore had had Canestin, that would have been the choice. Damn."

"So I've had a yeast infection maybe 3 or 4 times. 2/4 went away by themselves. The first time I used Monistat 7 and felt fine. Today I bought Monistat 1 with the egg, and as I'm writing this in bed at 2:40 a.m., all I can think about is how much itchier it is! OMG. I just want to scratch. It's so uncomfortable, and I cannot fall asleep. When I used the 7-day, it worked. This one better work."

"I, of all people, have the highest tolerance to pain. I’ve had a YI before and used Monistat 3-day cream. Fine. Well, I thought, hey... a few years later, I have one again - quick pace it and use Monistat 1. NOOOOOOOOO!! Burns intense. I attempted to handle it. Nope. Attempted to remove the most (someone mentioned tampons). And now I have an ice pack between there. Lord, I’m hoping it’ll be better by tomorrow - this is the worst. I can easily laugh getting a tattoo, apparently, injecting this stuff up your crotch is worse. Smh."

"Oh, what a relief! I treated BV with antibiotics and got a one dose of fluconazole to treat yeast after BV. And that did nothing to me, I was so uncomfortable, I inserted Monistat 1 during the day! The leakage wasn’t bad, but what a relief I feel 24 hours later. No burning whatsoever. If you have a bad yeast infection, this medicine does magic!"

"Terrible! It made everything worse. I ended up with blisters, it burned me so bad. I had to wash it off as soon as I could. Not sure why I thought it would be a good idea to use this product. It should be taken off the shelves."

"I took a shower so that I was clean. Inserted the egg, and directly after, I used the cream. Walked around my house doing chores and such. Had slight cramping and a 'cold' tingle, but nothing crazy. I think the cream numbs the pain. I used it every 4 hours, and I didn't suffer. Highly recommend using a panty liner as the cream discharges as the egg is dissolved."

"Without doing any research, I picked up the Monistat 1, hoping I could find some relief after taking a Diflucan and it not working. Now it’s 3 AM, and I have ice packs in between my legs trying to resolve the burning and itching this medicine caused. I took a shower and put the ovule in, and everything was fine. I was laying in bed and got up to make food when the medication started leaking, and once it hit the outside, I was in awful pain, burning and itching. It was CONSTANT and would not stop. I tried washing it all out, but now I’m in bed trying to find relief still. DO NOT BUY."

"I started showing some signs of a YI on Monday, the 6th, grabbed a Monistat 1, as I have done a few times before and thought nothing of it. I ran out to see a friend and came back in. I rushed to the bathroom due to a burning sensation and knew something was wrong when all the medication was in my shorts. Went to my PCP on Thursday and she didn’t do an exam, just prescribed an antibiotic. After two more days of complete discomfort, primarily when I urinated, it felt like death. I was in tears just about every time I went. Went to the ER where they diagnosed me with herpes, this couldn’t be true because neither my husband nor I have been with other people in our 5-year relationship. Got tested, all negative results. Never will I use this again!"

"Well, damn, I wish I would have read this before. Someone mentioned birthing fire, and I would have to agree. I feel like I took the Walmart version before, and I never experienced this. I remember a friend of mine taking Monistat, and it burned really bad for her, but I thought, oh, I’ll be fine... boy, was I wrong. About 10 minutes after inserting the egg, I was burning and itching. I made the mistake of getting up, and I felt like I was punched in the vag with a white hot branding iron. I took a shower immediately. Luckily, I have a detachable shower head, and I tried hard to clear it all out. I know it’s not completely gone because it still burns, but it doesn’t itch, and it’s nothing like it was before. I also took a Vagisil anti-itch wipe and doused it with witch hazel, and it’s currently resting on my bits. I also have an ice pack and took a pain pill. I’m praying it’ll be better tomorrow. I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it does this."

"Absolutely awful. I wish I would’ve read reviews first. The first 30 minutes with the ovule was okay, now I’ve been in tears on my bathroom floor for over an hour with burning and itching that’s unbearable. Never again will I use any of their products. I don’t even care about the money spent, I wouldn’t wish the way this feels on my worst enemy. Don’t use it. Save yourself."

"Y'all are scaring me! Lol. I've never had a yeast infection. I got it after taking an antibiotic for a recent oral surgery. I wanted a quick solution without having to go to the doctor during Covid. I inserted the pill about 4 hours ago. I went to run errands and noticed slight burning, but nothing crazy. I am typically super sensitive to topicals (I use sensitive soaps, etc.), so I hope this doesn't get worse as the night goes on - will keep you all updated."

"I really wish I would have read these reviews before I tried this awful product, which was probably formulated and approved by men. I had a mild infection, just slight itching and irritation, so I figured I’d try Monistat 1 first before making a big deal out of it and to avoid racking up medical bills... Boy, was that the wrong decision. I inserted what I now assume to be the awful lava egg into my vagina at 11:30 PM. I fell into a deep sleep shortly after, only to wake up out of my slumber at 3:33 AM in excruciating pain. The itchiness, irritation, and burning were now 1,000 times worse! I thought this stuff was supposed to help, not torture me! It felt like Lucifer himself unlocked the fiery gates of hell inside me. And there was nothing I could do to soothe it. I didn’t sleep at all, and I’ve been using ice packs and cold washcloths, but it barely helps. It’s now 9 AM, and I’m not sure I can go to work today."

"Yes, it burns, but that's how you know it's working! This is my third time using this particular one, and I recommend it over the Monistat 3 or 7. It's only one night of burning and maybe a little bit the next morning. But it works! And for $20, it's a lot less expensive than paying for a doctor's visit."
