For Diverticulitis "Flagyl cured my diverticulitis, however, my blood pressure went to 200 over 119. I had to be rushed to the emergency room. Afterwards, I checked and saw that this can happen if you are in your 60s or older. Don't exactly know why older people can get this symptom, but I will never use it again. The drug worked, that is why I rated it high, but the side effects are brutal."

For Trichomoniasis "I started the medicine and didn't have any side effects for up to three days, but after the third day, the side effects hit me big time. I was sick to my stomach, and I had vomiting. I didn't have a problem with the taste of the pill, I just threw it in the back of my throat and chugged some juice to make it go away really quickly. My infection seems to have cleared up after the first two days. No discharge or itching. Haven't had intercourse yet to see if the discomfort was gone, but will make another review when that happens. Great medicine!"

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed to take this twice a day for 7 days for bacterial vaginosis. I will never allow a doctor to prescribe me this ever again! The taste comes from nightmares for starters, and good LORD, the side effects are NOT worth it! Constant nausea, dizziness, everything tastes like fecal matter, fevers, restlessness, overall weak and uncomfortable. This cannot be good for you. I didn't even have any side effects with the BV itself, it's this medication that has been making me feel like death!"

For Diverticulitis "Flagyl leaves a bad taste in my mouth after a couple of days, makes my urine smell bad, and causes nausea (so get some anti-nausea meds along with it). That being said, it does the job very well. Noticeable improvement within 1-3 days."

For Bacterial Infection "The medicine seems to be effective, but it is literally the most terrible tasting medicine I've ever had. It has no coating and dissolves instantly on your tongue, leaving a horrid taste behind. It is upsetting to your stomach. I'm taking it because it's effective. I wish they'd add a coating. I dread taking this medicine and have a knot in my stomach when it's almost time to take it."

For Diverticulitis "Flagyl took away all of my energy for 23 hours each day for the first few days. I could not even watch TV. I had almost constant stomach pain, and additional stomach pain at bowel movements. I did a lot of sleeping every day. I also had a headache. I have been off Flagyl for 11 days now, and I still have some stomach pain."

For Diverticulitis "I ended up in the ER with diverticulitis and was given Cipro and Flagyl. Yes, the taste is bitter, and things don't taste so good. However, despite the taste, I have gotten significantly better with the two medicines, and that is the main thing for me. As with any medicines, some of us will experience different side effects, if any, but if this is one of them, this is very minor. I did not experience the nausea or a lot of other ones I read about with these medicines."

For Diverticulitis "Used both Flagyl and Cipro. Also, I found that after 7 days, the color of my urine did not look right, freaked out and did some calling around to pharmacists, only to find out said yes, this is a side effect, although not real common. Of course, I would be the odd ball."

For Bacterial Infection "I went to my doctor following finishing a Z-pack and was having painful urination. I thought I had a UTI, however, it turned out to be bacterial vaginitis (BV). The physician at a local urgent care put me on generic metronidazole, 500 mg, two times daily. I am on day 4 and was unable to work due to severe back pain, headache, and nausea. I have taken this medication before, but I don't think I've ever taken it orally for 7 days. At this point, I'm going back in to see my doctor and ask for something else. I can't afford to miss work the rest of the week!"

For Bacterial Infection "I know the side effects (now), but my doc did not mention anything beyond complete avoidance of alcohol. Take that seriously, not even mouthwash. You will vomit. I am on 500 mg oral twice daily for 7 days. Took about 2 days for side effects to kick in. But the infection was gone by then (symptomatically). Around Day 2, I was getting muscle stomach pain, happened to on cephalexin too. This went away by Day 4. Almost passed out on Day 5, sweating on the back of my neck (first time ever), so winded and weak to the point of not being able to speak. Been trying to force food and water but appetite is gone, repulsed by food. Lots of diffuse weakness from neck to waist. Nausea is terrible. Light sensitivity too. I am sensitive to meds in general but wish I had taken the topical alternative. Be careful if your body is sensitive. Flood yourself with water and if you have no appetite, just try to get as much of your favorite food and eat what you can because food helps. Only thing that helped was sleep."

For Trichomoniasis "Was diagnosed with Trich. Dr. prescribed four 500 mg of Flagyl to take at once. Only complaint was metallic taste, but it made me drink water more often and chew minty gum - I survived. Unfortunately, it did not work. Six weeks and two days later, the discharge, itching, and symptoms returned. Note: I had not been intimate with anyone, so it was not because of sexual contact; Flagyl just didn't work. Returned to Dr., was retested, and it was positive for Trich. Dr. prescribed Tinidazole the second time, which I took yesterday; as soon as I reach or exceed 60-90 days with no symptoms, I will repost."

For Bacterial Infection "I took Flagyl for 10 days, 3X a day to treat a parasite (Blastocystis spp.). Before taking the medication, I was having extremely bad-smelling farts, almost constant diarrhea, and abdominal pain followed by diarrhea. They heavily warned me that this medication sucks, and they were right: it does. That being said, my excessively smelling gas went away within a few days. Days 2-3 and 8-10 seemed to suck the most as far as symptoms. I also experienced mental fog from taking this medication. I really felt not on my game mentally and had a hard time concentrating. I did have some problems sleeping at night while taking this medication and then problems as well once the medication had been finished. For about 4 days after taking the medication, I had oral thrush and whiteness on my tongue. The bad taste in my mouth stayed for a while. I am 9 days finished with this medication, and I feel like I still don’t have any appetite or interest in food. All in all, it was not great, but I would take it again."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Most horrible side effects: bitter taste in mouth even hours after administration, balance problems, confusion, surroundings seem unreal, like walking in a dream (not a good one), concentration problems, general malaise, not able to eat anything but oatmeal and mashed potatoes. Extreme weight loss. Had to stop after 11 doses. Stomach worse than before. I have to add that I also had Amoxicillin and Protonix at the same time, maybe the combination was at fault for this extreme reaction."

For Diverticulitis "I have had three episodes of diverticulitis in the last five years. Because I had pretty rough experiences with the Flagyl/Cipro combination in my previous episodes, I asked the pharmacist to advise me, with my prior history in mind. I really wanted this time to be different. He said the most important advice is DO NOT USE ALCOHOL, which sounds like common sense; but that includes mouthwash. (you might swallow a bit) It's a slow recovery; absolutely. I live in So Cal and this was during a heat wave, but I slept day and night the first few days with a heating pad on my lower abdomen. The pharmacy confirmed Tylenol is okay for pain, also. It's not a walk in the park, but I did better this time, even with other minor side effects."

For Diverticulitis "In 2009, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis, had lots of blood loss. Six years to the month, I had a sudden flare-up, high temp, cramps. Instead of going to the doctor right away, I took amoxicillin that I had. Started feeling better and went out to eat, and bam, cramping started. Went to see my doctor, he put me on Cipro and Flagyl. Been on it for 4 days now, the pain is gone, still have bloating. The meds made my urine dark, and my head feels stuffed up. Burning in my eyes. Don't do what I did, go to your doctor. I'm making an appointment to see a specialist."

For Diverticulitis "First off, don't forget that a lot of people are probably doing excellent with little to no problems with this antibiotic. Sort of like you never really hear from happy customers, usually the unsatisfied ones. Also, that everyone's body reacts differently. ...that being said, Holy Cow, the nausea! Ugh... Stomach cramps and pretty much constant nausea all day today (day 2). Eventually, had to leave work early. Pepto did not help. Going to try taking Nauzene with me to work tomorrow, see if it helps. (OTC nausea medication - a lifesaver in the past) Taking it with Cipro. Been on this combo before for my diverticulitis without so many stomach problems. Still a better option than the huge waves of pain from a flare-up."

For Diverticulitis "Took Cipro and Flagyl for a diverticulitis flare-up. I paid extra for the name brand of Cipro. The generic brand gave me all the nasty side effects people are sharing. I also found that eating something before taking either med made a huge difference. I have had minimal side effects from either eating first, plus I drink a bottle of water with every pill. This was the worst flare-up I've experienced. Hopefully, with some lifestyle changes, it will be my last."

For Diverticulitis "Don't drink alcohol while on this. I had 1 light beer (approx. 0.9 standard drinks) and felt completely ill. Also ironic that you should take this pill after eating, though with acute diverticulitis you shouldn't eat at all. I found drinks like Up & Go (breakfast drink) were a good option. Medication does work, but tastes horrible."

For Diverticulitis "I went to the ER and was told I had diverticulitis. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days. I started taking Cipro and Flagyl. Only side effect is diarrhea, hard to manage when you work full time. Medication does work. On meds for 1 week."

For Diverticulitis "I have been on Flagyl a few times, and it works very well. But, why can't they put it in a gelcap? It is so hard for me to take because of the taste. I take it with cranberry juice, which helps. But, really, it is nasty tasting."

For Bacterial Infection "My NP put me on a regimen of Flagyl 500 mg twice a day for 7 days for urinary symptoms I was having, although my cultures were negative. I followed the regimen for 5 days before finally stopping. My side effects were severe and had me ready to go to the ER: stomach and pelvic cramping, continual discharge, complete loss of appetite, extreme nausea when attempting to force myself to eat solid food, and general nausea when not eating. I felt extremely fatigued, emotional, and anxious. I was on the verge of several full-blown panic attacks at work. I'm not sure if my symptoms are taken care of by Flagyl because the side effects are so much worse. Day 2 off of the drug and having the most severe side effects yet."

For Diverticulitis "The side effects of taking Flagyl are not pleasant, but they're worth it, as this antibiotic certainly seems effective in relieving sporadic attacks of diverticulitis. I have been prescribed it along with Cephalexin for maximum efficacy. As stated elsewhere, do not go near alcohol during medication, i.e., consider yourself on the wagon for the duration of treatment! Finding the right diet (which for me includes no wheat) seems critical in controlling the disease."

For Trichomoniasis "The first time they gave me Flagyl in 4 pills to take all at the same time. It worked great, and I cleared up. The second time I was given the same 4 pill dosage, and the symptoms cleared up for about a week until I got my period. Then the discharge, smell, and itching came back with a vengeance. So back to the doctor I went, and this time they gave me Tindamax."

For Bacterial Infection "My doctor gave me this because I had bacterial vaginosis. Not even 12 hours into my first dose, I got the metallic taste in my mouth, then severe stomach cramps and nausea. I'm on day 5 and have had bouts of nausea throughout the course of my medication. My appetite has gone way, way down, and I'm so tired! I literally will sleep 12 hours and then get up for 2, then go back to bed for another 4! Having trouble staying awake at work, but it is doing its job!"

For Diverticulitis "Was put on Flagyl and Cipro for 1 week. I'm light-headed and only want to sleep! Nauseous, and my mouth tastes awful. I am glad to read all of these posts, and I thought I was getting a secondary sinus infection. My last pills were on a Monday, and today, Wednesday, I still feel 'in the clouds.'"
