"I have such difficulty with the limiting dairy. Do you still use dairy? I am not able to keep my urine ph where they recommend it either. How do you all handle these two things? Docs have me taking 1000 mg of vitamin c and d mannose twice a day with it. I have constant stomach upset."

Hiprex (methenamine) "I have had great relief from using Hiprex for recurring bladder infections. I have a Medtronic device due to a distended bladder that wasn't allowing me to empty, but the Hiprex seems to help more than the device. If I miss it, I will get an infection. I take it 2x a day. I am interested in the advice to add vitamin c and cranberry. I take both but not religiously or because of the hiprex."

"I have only been taking methenamine for a week. I was going to take one in the morning and one at night but couldn't sleep at all so have been taking one each morning. I just googled if it was making my urine so acidic it was burning my urethra and it does have that effect so I shall drink plenty of water and see if that helps and I won't drink cranberry juice as well"

"I have a neurogenic bladder due to a spinal cord injury years ago. Unfortunately, I had to go to an Indwell Catheter which usually spells disaster for UTIs. Starting 4 years ago, I got a couple of UTIs a year, and then, after that, in less than one year's time, I had 5 in a row, three of them sending me to the hospital. Both my urologist and GP want to start me on a prophylactic of Macrobid. Well, before I did that, I tried d'mannose and that did not help. Most of us should know we should stay away from antibiotics as much as possible. After my 43 years of being disabled, I have had my share of antibiotics, and I didn't want to become resistant. I went to another urologist, and that's when he prescribed me Hiprex. So, in the past 15 months, I had one UTI. Sure, I'd rather have none, but one in 15 months is better than the five in one year. I have read on the Internet where Hiprex should not be working for me since I have an ID catheter. I take it with an emergen Vitamin C and wait one hour."

"Had a drug resistant UTI and spent almost a year on 8 different antibiotic courses. Nothing has kept away the uti until I started this Hiprex 1mg 2xday with 1000 Vit C. My side effects are intense often disturbing dreams and a constant headache. It’s been 30 days and I’m debating about weaning off because of the headaches but terrified of the UTI returning. Anyone else with headache and bad dreams?"

Hiprex (methenamine) "I was experiencing back-to-back UTIs until being prescribed Hiprex. My only problem is I have trouble swallowing the tablet. It often gets caught in my throat. I don't have any trouble with swallowing other medication."

Hiprex (methenamine) "Have has random recurring UTI's over the last 12 months, one leading to the passing of a kidney stone. Ended up in emergency and was given a strong antibiotic. That worked. This time went straight to the pharmacist and he recommended Hiprex. I took 2 a day and only slightly helped."

Hiprex (methenamine) "After menopause, I started suffering regular UTIs, which would disappear for a few days with antibiotics but would return after finishing the course. Only when I was referred to a Urologist and he prescribed Hiprex for me did I stop getting UTIs. It has made such a difference to my life, giving me the freedom to go out without fear of wetting myself."
