"So far, the med has me feeling terrible akathisia when I take it at night. I'm switching from risperidone 2 mg to Latuda 80 mg, and I dread taking the pill at night because I know I'll feel like I'm jumping out of my skin."

"Just started it today. Doctor wants to stop the Haldol and taper off the Zyprexa. I also take something for ADD, which helps the intrusive thoughts, which then allows me to finally concentrate. No nausea as others have stated, and just a mild sleepiness. See doctor in 2 weeks."

"I have been taking Latuda for schizoaffective for the past 14 months. I have been sleeping like a baby and have no delusions whatsoever. BUT I have been very addicted to temptations. I have been drinking a lot more than usual, and I gained a total of 20 kg in these 14 months. My lifestyle is not helping either. I just feel empty, careless, disorganized, and unhappy. I do not have motivation to even wash the dishes or dress up like I used to. I am ready to switch to another medication, but this med is good for delusions. One of the severe side effects that I have experienced is I have been talking to myself, repeating my thoughts out loud all day, every day."

"Been on Latuda 40 mg for six weeks. Doctor put me at 80 yesterday, and the restlessness I experienced last night was unbearable. All day I haven't been able to stop moving my feet and legs. Called the doctor today, and she said continue taking it and go to the emergency room if the symptoms get worse. PLEASE HELP. Does the restlessness go away!!????"

"Currently transitioning to Latuda because Zyprexa's metabolic side effects were too much for me. So far, it's going well. I'm on 60 mg, and I sleep, eat, and live pretty normally. My voices aren't completely gone, but they're manageable. Decreased anxiety and depression. Aside from helping my schizoaffective disorder, it seems like my PTSD is under control as I have fewer freak-outs and nightmares."

"I have been taking this medication for 2 years now. The first year, it worked like a wonder pill. Minimal side effects such as nausea and drowsiness after ingesting it. Sometimes I would have a feeling of impending doom, like if my life was going to end after I took the pill. Later, this medicine turned out horrible. I don't know what a night's sleep is. It causes me severe insomnia. I feel always tired, even after sleeping 15 hours. I'm suffering from severe depression from this medicine. It makes me irritable and angry. It drains me of motivation. The only thing I can say good about this medicine is that it has caused me no weight gain whatsoever. This medication drains me from being able to live life."

"Latuda made me so sleepy that I had to start taking it before going to sleep. This helped and I wasn't sleepy during the next day. However, Latuda also negatively affected my mood, and my anxiety got worse. I had to switch to another drug because of that. Latuda usually helps with depression, but my experience is different. What works for other people doesn't necessarily work for you. If you try Latuda, make sure to take it with food because otherwise, it won't get absorbed."

"I have been on this med for a year, both at 20 and 40 mg. I have a better experience taking this medication without food. I would get the akathisia so many have talked about when I took this med with food, especially at the 40 mg dose. The 40 mg dose helped control my mood swings. I go through a whole range of good and bad moods within a single day. It makes it hard to live with myself, especially if I don't get proper sleep. I take Trazodone also. The use of these two medications together is supposed to be monitored closely."

"We have heard of the Latuda 20-40 mg restlessness/sense of muscle quiver being controlled by a small 0.5 mg Benztropine daily dosage taken with the Latuda. Both were taken in the evening as it seemed to help with sleep. I believe Benztropine may normally be given for Parkinson's. This was suggested by an experienced psychiatrist who reviewed medications looking for one that had the side effect to address and to help with the sense of muscle quiver."

"Latuda has been a hero in my battle against schizophrenia. Aside from having to take it with food and having trouble cooling off in hot weather, I am very glad to have Latuda. This drug makes it impossible for me to function acceptably in life due to side effects such as sedation and other cognitive issues. So I accept that gladly as it cures my schizophrenia. I take 120 mg each day. I try to save my pill as late in the day as I can, but usually take it around one o'clock. So I cannot function at a job acceptably and need help functioning at home occasionally, but my schizophrenia is entirely in check for the most part."

"Latuda sucks. I was only on 20 mg once a day for 4 weeks and on 40 mg once a day for 2 weeks. This med made suicidal ideations worse, and I ended up self-harming. I had facial muscle spasms, paranoia, and anxiety, and the depression worsened. I had to take leave off work because of all of this. Before, I was on risperidone, and I was tired at work, so I asked for a new medicine so I could work more hours at work without being tired and falling asleep standing up. I'd take that overall, this nonsense Latuda gave me. Now, I haven't worked for 2 months. I'm behind on bills. I am on permanent disability, but that's not something anyone can live off of. It's why I need this job and why I need medicine that will help me so I can work more than 4 hours a day."

"I took Latuda for about 5 months. First two weeks at 20 mg - worked fine. Thought clearer, overall better mood. Two weeks later, I was bumped up to 40 mg - problems ensued. Severe restlessness (akathisia). Was then bumped up to 80 mg, then 120, then down to 100... the akathisia became more unbearable at every dose. That, and my brain started feeling overly stimulated and my body gained this sense of underlying fear. Plus, I gained TERRIBLE anxiety. I can verify the anxiety stemmed from the Latuda because I forgot to take my meds one night, and it was gone by the following morning. I'm giving Latuda a 6 because I know how it felt when it worked properly, and I know it benefits many. Unfortunately, things just didn't work out for me big picture."

"I started Latuda last May for my schizophrenia. I developed schizophrenia when I was 16 (4 years ago), but after being on like 6 billion types of medications, this one seemed to work best. The side effects were the worst! I remember one experience clearly. I was on vacation at the beach last summer, and I took a Latuda pill before going out to eat with my family. It kicked in after 30 minutes. All of a sudden, I began feeling extremely sleepy, dizzy, and I had EXTREME akathisia. So terrible, I couldn't explain it, and to top it off, my heart was racing, I was having a panic attack in the restaurant! And at the same time, I was sleepy as hell, but I kept my cool. My mum took me back to the hotel, where I immediately fell asleep. Terrible."

"I have depression (lifelong dysthymia) and anxiety and trouble falling/staying asleep. I've started Latuda to replace amitriptyline, in addition to Cymbalta and Buspar. I was taking amitriptyline for over a year, but it was no longer helping me fall asleep or stay asleep very long, nor helping my depression. At 20 mg of Latuda, I noticed no benefits for falling/staying asleep and kept taking 25 mg of amitriptyline with my other meds. It caused me to dream a lot of vivid dreams, which I enjoy because it is a much-needed break from reality. But unfortunately, there were no mood benefits. So the Latuda was doubled to 40 mg and amitriptyline was discontinued again. I've been sleeping much better and am still having crazy/fun/amusing vivid dreams. I think my mood has definitely improved too, but it is hard to tell. But now I am super tired when I get up and have fallen asleep again a few times today. I'm gonna give it 3 more weeks to see if my body can wake up a little more, or I'll ask to change Latuda to 30 mg. Aside from being tired, I actually do feel hopeful that this is working."

"I was told that Latuda is a better tablet than taking my older tablet, which is Stelazine 10 mg a day. The only side effect was that it made me tired all the time, and I was sleeping-that's all. So I'm now on 60 mg a day. I had side effects, bad ones, and the worse thing happened tonight. I have never in my life been so aggressive against my daughter and my husband. Never had I been like that on Stelazine. Never. My husband was in tears tonight because of my attitude and my aggressive behavior. I didn't feel any remorse whatsoever. Definitely not a good tablet for me. I have both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and depression. I don't care how hard it is to get Stelazine, but I'm going to go back on the Stelazine, it's so much better for me and my family."

"I was really excited about this med when I started on 40 mg in the psych ward. I didn't feel any side effects and felt more hopeful. I've been on it for a month now on 60 mg, and the voices and delusions have gone way down, not entirely gone yet. The only problem I have is the anxiety, it's a very intense, nauseous anxiety that is worst about an hour or two after I take the Latuda med with dinner. I thought I could deal with it, but it's gotten a bit worse. I feel it throughout the day now. I asked a doc yesterday for something to help with it, and I got buspirone. It doesn't seem to help much. I'm really sad that I might have to find a new med as others I've tried have had worse side effects. I've tried Zyprexa, risperidone, and Abilify. I want Latuda to work so badly but am losing hope."

"It worked for some days the first time I tried it for my schizoaffective disorder. Then I had severe anxiety when I upped the dose, so I stopped. Tried the lower dose again, 20 mg, and it caused panic attacks, hard breathing, severe anxiety. Not worth it for me, I couldn't even think at all, just anxiety and fear."

"I took this medication for nearly two years at the highest dose of 120 mg for schizophrenia. It completely helped with my hallucinations and delusional thinking. I had been on 650 mg of Seroquel prior to starting Latuda, and I would still hear voices. I take Latuda with a snack at 8 p.m., and I am ready for sleep between 9:30 - 10 p.m. and sleep well through the night. My only complaint is that it does cause an increase in appetite and weight gain. At this present time, I take 900 mg lithium, 150 mg Luvox, 72 mg Concerta, and Latuda dose has been lowered to 80 mg. I have noticed that my appetite has decreased. Delusions and hallucinations have not returned."

"I have been taking Latuda for about 4 years now. I have to say the results have been amazing! Thank God! I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Hearing voices in my head was not my ideal life. The voices had me all over the place! With Latuda, I’ve been able to live a normal life again. Clear thoughts! The only thing is the price and some insomnia I experience, but with a prescription for insomnia it balances out. Definitely would recommend."

"I've only been on this medication for 2 days, but at 60 mg once daily, it dries my mouth out terribly, and my mind is blank when around people. Hoping to move down to 40 mg, and if that doesn't work, 20 mg, if my doctor lets me. Trying to get the right dose is so stressful."

"I struggle with weight gain on antipsychotics. Latuda hardly if at all affects my metabolism or hunger. I take only the starting dose because I also take Seroquel, which strangely also doesn't affect my weight. The one thing I love about Latuda is the lift of depression, the ability to laugh again. All my psychotic symptoms are alleviated. I get violently nauseous with Latuda. I have to take ondansetron when taking Latuda, or it would not be possible to take it. This extreme nausea has never resolved. But I really like Latuda. I do not have to take ondansetron all day and night, just when it comes to taking it. If my dose is increased, I can have an awful need to move my body like restless legs but all over. With other antipsychotics, I could not lose weight no matter what I did, but I can now with exercise and good food. I really like Latuda. Weight gain really bothers me, especially with a history of an eating disorder. So overall, this med is great, but especially because it hasn’t caused ridiculous weight gain."

"After years on a number of meds, all these arguments in my head are starting to quiet down some and starting to make sense. 50 pounds later and completely isolated from the world, feeling like I can make a reality check and at least have hope of a better and brighter day. Just checked out after an episode and hope they got it right finally. Started at 40 and just ate and took my first 60... Feeling positive at least with sample packs."

"I have only been taking Latuda for 4 weeks, so I'm aware that I might be talking too early. But I don't care. I think I've found a miracle cure! I've taken antipsychotics since 2019... Olanzapine was okayish but made me put on weight, and I went from 76 kgs to 96 kgs in 3 months! Risperidone didn't help much. For the first time in 3 years, I feel back to my normal self (nearly) after 4 weeks of taking Latuda/Lurasidone. The violent and paralyzing visions I've been experiencing have been suppressed, almost from the first dose. I can't wait to tell my story! But I don't know if it's side effects or what? About one week ago, I experienced sharp pain around my waist, as though the pressure I used to feel in my head had moved to my waist. I went and saw the doctor. He said it must be muscular pain and it will settle down. Sure enough, the pain has eased. I am so happy with Latuda, I can't wait to tell everyone!"

"I’ve been on Latuda for nearly four years now for schizophrenia. It gets rid of the auditory hallucinations and delusions completely, so cognitively I am back to normal. Side effects include leaking breasts, weight gain of approx 25 kg, though it happened gradually, and inability to orgasm on 160 mg. My psychiatrist has put the dose down to 120 mg to see if that deals with the sexual side effects, but that was only yesterday, so I don’t know yet if it worked. I also get hot overnight (I take it in the evening) and sometimes get a tremor in my hands during the night. I have also tried Seroquel and Abilify, but Latuda is better for side effects (except for the sexual ones). Given how awful antipsychotic meds are, this one is not too bad really."

"Latuda worked really well at controlling my schizophrenia for the 2 years I was on it, but I occasionally did hear some voices on it still at 80 mg. Unfortunately, it had some side effects on me that I didn't like - gained weight, lost libido, and slept 12-13 hours a day on it. So eventually, the side effects just got to me and I changed to a different antipsychotic. Now I'm on Rexulti, and my voices have gone away completely and have no side effects. So I would say Latuda was an OK medication for me, could have been better, could have been worse."
