Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "For the first few years, I had my OB/GYN monitoring my thyroid and adjusting my Levothyroxine… What a mistake! I never felt good, and come to find out, he was doing it wrong. Not doing the right test to monitor my levels and decreasing my dose when he should've been increasing. I started to see an endocrinologist, and WOW! What a difference. He switched me to name-brand Synthroid only (which made a difference) and checks my levels twice a year to make sure I'm on the correct dose. I feel amazing for the first time in years!"

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had half my thyroid out almost three months ago. Started taking medication about five weeks post-op. I have become depressed and stressed. Everything bothers me and I cannot let it go. I go days without sleeping and live on black coffee. I have the shakes and hate everybody and everything. I cannot rid myself of the stress. I do not know if this is the medicine but that is the only new medicine I have been taking."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking Levothyroxine around 2 months ago, building up from 50 to 75. Recently had blood test back, and my results have come back as normal now! I went from nearly collapsing while out walking my dog. Having aches and pains. Brain fog, no energy at all... falling asleep at the drop of a hat! Fights with hubby, because I was so fatigued! Was going on like that for years, until Doctor gave me the blood test, and realized it was a medical condition. I thought it was me, just being tired and irritable. Now I am starting to recover, slowly, weight gain. Went from 9 stone to 12.2. 3 stone. now I have to lose all this weight because of hypothyroidism... nightmare! But I feel more awake, more energy, hope this review helps someone!"

Tirosint (levothyroxine) for Hashimoto's disease "I am not the patient but have power of attorney for her. She's my mother in law and I've been caring for her medical needs for more than 15 years. She has Alzheimers disease and is now in memory care. I've been unable to visit her since the Covid started. We can talk through the mobile phone and see her through a window. She is so frail now. Losing weight. Won't eat much. Sleeps almost continually. Begs to see her family. Was changed from Levothyroxine about 3 months ago to Tirosint. Going downhill continually. 95 years old and getting good care in her memory facility (we are lucky). But this drug seems to be making her worse. Get used to it. This is what Socialized Medicine looks like."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "I've been taking Synthroid since October 2010 for my underactive thyroid and am also a type 2 diabetic. It is now February 2011 and things are wonderful. After about two weeks, my mood improved. After 6 weeks, I was able to get a haircut (prior to this my hair kept breaking off at the ends) and my hair shines again. I've also lost a total of 15.5 pounds and counting. My doctor says it's because the Synthroid has corrected my metabolism. No bad side effects to date (fingers crossed for the future too). I am on a low dose...25mg. Monday through to Friday only...Weekends off."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "My wife has been taking this medication for about 5 years now. She has terrible paranoia, is always in a bad mood, has sleep problems, hair loss, and irritation. Her doctor tests her levels all the time and tells her she is fine. However, I do not agree! She goes out drinking when she gets upset."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "MUST be taken at night - and it absolutely seems to work for me. No more brain fog - and for someone who was always a go-getter - the brain fog was devastating. No more night sweats either. Those were the worst."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "While it brought the TSH into the appropriate range, the exhaustion, lethargy, constipation, etc. was unbearable. For 20 hours out of the day, felt drowsy, unmotivated, and sleepy. This is no way to live. Got on Tirosint and what a difference."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have hypothyroid but still have my thyroid. So Levo works well for me. Lowers my TSH and even aided in weight loss. I always have better bowel movements when taking this medication. It stopped my hair from stripping out. BUT, at first, it did cause my heart to race when I was bumped up to 0.75, and it does cause fatigue. I would get really sweaty when I started taking the 0.75. I see now why they don't want you taking this if you've been experiencing heart attack symptoms because boy did this make me feel like I was having one. Only issues I had with taking 0.50 were the fatigue, but my TSH was steady going down. The side effects have subsided. Guess I just needed to stick it out. I feel better on levothyroxine than without it. It works. Prayers for healing for us all <3"

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been taking levothyroxine for a week and a half now, and before it, I would fall asleep at work, when I was driving, or just watching TV. There was a time that I went through 5 different sleep medications in 2 months to try and figure out the right one because nothing was working for me. My whole body ached, and worst of all, my hair was falling out. The first couple of days taking the medication, my body ached really bad, but it got better. I lost 12 pounds already, and my hair stopped falling out. I am also able to get through the day without falling asleep, and because I don't fall asleep during the day, I get tired during the night! I love it."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "Great medication for those who have absorption issues (Celiac, dairy intolerances, etc.) and no T3 conversion problems. On that note, you will find that a specific dose of Tirosint will feel much higher than that same dose in regular Levothyroxine, for example. As a gel cap with no fillers, more medication is able to absorb into your system. Start with a much lower dose than you think you need and work your way up. Over the past 10 years, I've tried Armour Thyroid, NP Thyroid, NatureThroid, Levothyroxine, and Synthroid. With all the other medications, I always felt like I was constantly increasing my dose. At one point, I was on 200 mcg of Levothyroxine. I'm now taking 25 mcg of Tirosint 5-6 days a week. My levels have never been as 'steady' as they are with Tirosint, and it's nice to know I only need a small dose of it as opposed to depending on such a large dose on a daily basis. The only downside is the price, but it makes a world of difference."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) for Hashimoto's disease "I started taking this drug, Tirosint, a year ago and initially felt more awake, energetic, and happier. I lost some weight and was back to a comfortable maintenance weight pre-thyroid issues, but in the past few months, I have gained it all back and then some more. I honestly notice no difference in my energy levels now and, in fact, notice my immune system is much worse than before. I think this may all be due to the recent change in manufacturer, as all the side effects have shown up since early this year, but I’m ready to be off this drug."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "I've been on Synthroid (Levothyroxine) for about a year and a half now. They've changed my dose 4 times so far and I'm currently at 100 mcg. Once they keep me on a dose for a bit, I feel okay, but with every change I have a few annoying side effects. I can say that if you take it every day like you're supposed to, it will work eventually. You have to be patient, it won't make you feel great right away. It took me about 3 months. But it helped with my lethargy, weight, and even depression. It's pretty good if you take it as prescribed. If you stop taking it suddenly, the effects of hypothyroidism come back pretty quickly and severely, so I recommend taking it as your doctor states."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "Originally, my doctor put me on Levothyroxine when I first had symptoms of hypothyroidism. I continued to have the symptoms and ended up putting on a total of 43 lb! I then asked to see an endocrinologist and begged them to put me on Nature-Throid. Due to my persistence, they put me on 82.75 mcg of Nature-Throid. After 3 weeks of it in my system, I began to have energy again, stomach aches went away, slept better, and was able to work out daily again! My new endocrinologist insisted that Synthroid was better than Nature-Throid, so I will switch to Synthroid. Unfortunately, stomach aches and fatigue came back. Synthroid and Levothyroxine don't help."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hashimoto's disease "I've been on Synthroid for over 15 years due to Hashimoto's Disease and also partial thyroidectomy due to a nodule. For anyone who is on the medication and says they are feeling depressed, tired, etc., check into the symptoms of hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's disease as it may be that your medication is not at the right dose. My doctor considers 'normal' TSH to be between 1 and 3, while the AMA lists it as between 1 and 5. When I am at a 4, I do not feel well and have all the symptoms. DON'T just STOP taking this medication on your own as you can have severe side effects. GO back to your doctor and discuss how you feel. I cannot take the generics as they do not work for me. Only SYNTHROID for me! (I'm on 225 a day!)"

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "Before Synthroid, I was achy and tired. Now I have headaches, bloating, stomach pain, loose stools, and the feeling of being in a fog. I'm only on day 4 of the lowest dose cut in half. I'm stopping it. I was put on it before and it made my heart go to sinus tach, but the new doctor insisted I try it again! Hell no! I felt better before the medication!"

Tirosint (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "I was on a low dose for 2 weeks and developed a rash and sore throat. I thought it was a virus. After 2 more weeks, I developed a severe headache, neck pain, and dizziness. Stopped the medication 5 days ago and am still having issues, but the severe headache is less. Not sure how long it will be before it is all out of my system."

Euthyrox (levothyroxine) for TSH Suppression "I was given Euthyrox 50 mcg by Walmart instead of my usual thyroid medication. My doctors did not request Euthyrox or that the medication should be changed. I have been taking Euthyrox for 3 months and have experienced hives/welts on my left neck hairline and lower back. I am also experiencing headaches that are different from other headaches, along with joint and back pain. I may be a coincidence, but have requested Walmart to refill to my original prescription."

For Underactive Thyroid "Just diagnosed, my TSH has been in the 20s-30s, my T3 and T4 are at the low low range. Doctor says I have subclinical hypothyroidism. I refused the medicine for a month, lost 15 pounds, ate healthy, exercised, quit smoking, and was perfect. Unfortunately, TSH did NOT change. Started the medicine -- felt euphoric first few days. Around day 5... I felt like something was 'coming back'. A feeling that I lost 11 years ago when I was 18 years old (something I gave up trying to fix when I was 20 years old). I'm excited by the possibility that perhaps it was my thyroid and I can treat it now. Eager to see how I feel in a couple of months! I think I need more than 75 mcg. I have no side effects at all."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "Since being diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1999. First, I was given antidepressants for being tired and gaining weight (eyeroll). I have been on 88mcg of Synthroid daily. My blood work has always come back with my TSH at the high end of normal. Former doctor retired years ago, so no continuum of care (walk-in clinic). Recently, a new doctor suggested we adjust meds to bring down the TSH level. Started with 100mcg of Levothyroxine 5 days & Synthroid 88 - 2 days a week. In a few months' time, I suffered some pretty severe side effects - extreme dizziness/weakness, lack of energy, mood extremes, weight is either climbing or stagnant, racing pulse/heart rate. We checked levels, and now TSH reads at the extreme low end of normal. I'm scared, please help."

Tirosint (levothyroxine) for Underactive Thyroid "I was on Tirosint for over 6 months, and during that time, I've had fluctuating blood pressure, a sore neck and throat, sleepless nights, nervousness, and generally not feeling well. While it may work for some, it didn't work for me. I am now on the natural hormone Armour Thyroid, and I hope to stay on it."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Many doctors have begun to realize that many people are allergic to the ten or more additives in Synthroid. I had papillary thyroid cancer over 30 years ago. I had surgery, and I have been sick for over 30 years. The brain fog was terrible. I have fired more than 20 doctors over this time. They always said, 'Your lab report says your levels are fine.' On my second visit to a holistic doctor, she changed me to Tirosint, which has no additives. Tirosint is relatively new and is produced in Europe. TRY TIROSINT. Please…. You will not be sorry."

Levoxyl (levothyroxine) for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Brand name only! Levoxyl brought me back to life after being on Synthroid for the past 6 years. I was on Levoxyl since my thyroidectomy, then was forced to switch to Synthroid when it was recalled. On Synthroid, I was barely functioning, horribly depressed, very tired, moody, painful heavy periods, horrible thoughts, migraines, and motion sickness all the time! Miserable! I finally told my Dr I want to get back on Levoxyl. Thank GOD I did, almost immediately all the bad symptoms stopped and I feel amazing! I’m back to the land of the living! If you are feeling like I did on Synthroid, do not hesitate and switch to BRAND NAME Levoxyl!"

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hashimoto's disease "I was drinking Levoxyl, and I was living a normal life, but my doctor changed me to Synthroid, and it's been a living nightmare. My doctor doesn't want to change me back to Levoxyl because he thinks it's just my mind."

Synthroid (levothyroxine) for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had my thyroid removed almost a year ago, and I can agree that while I have not lost any weight using this drug, I have not gained any either. I have had horrible mood swings and lost a great deal of my hair. My doctor refuses to change the dosage because she says 'I'm within normal range' — whatever that means. I do feel like I'm experiencing memory loss or having problems concentrating."
