For Pneumonia "Adverse reaction to Levaquin. Extreme numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes, ongoing dry mouth. First prescribed a few years ago for an infection. After complaining about the numbness, I was told to discard them and given another antibiotic. Went in this time for pneumonia and was given a tablet before I realized this was the same medication I had an adverse reaction to before. Experiencing the same reaction after only one tablet, it's now 3 days later."

For Pneumonia "750 mg dosage for five days apparently cleared pneumonia, but now, six weeks later, I still feel some side effects of pain and swelling in ankles and feet that immobilized me immediately after taking. Additional side effects included internal bleeding in the ankle area, black toes, areas of skin on the lower leg showing bruise-like areas. Difficulty walking due to stiff and painful joints in feet and ankles."

For Bacterial Infection "I have been suffering with a sinus infection for over 2 months. I was on Bactrim for 14 days, prednisone for 10 days, which is a steroid, used OTC allergy medicine, then finally was given this med. After only one dose, my sinus, ear pain, and sore throat caused by post-nasal drip began to disappear. I did experience some coughing the first time I laid down, but guess what? The mucus was no longer greenish-yellow draining, it was super dark green. That was one serious infection! Tried and true, believe me, it worked for me. I had laryngitis for 2 months, and two days after this medication, my voice is back :) Two thumbs up."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 500 mg x 1/day for 7 days for a throat infection yesterday. Two hours after taking Levaquin, I went to bed, and immediately upon lying down, the ends of all my toes went numb. An hour later, I had an extremely rapid heartbeat and sweating, and couldn't sleep. Today, my throat and the rest of my body are significantly better, but my toes are still half numb. It's the weekend, so I called the pharmacist, she advised me to stop taking the medicine and go to my doctor on Monday."

For Kidney Infections "I have taken Levaquin on various occasions for UTI. I never really had side effects after only a week of it. The improvement in the infection was pretty rapid and remarkable. In 2 days, I felt better than I had in 3 months, so I was suffering from this UTI off and on for a while. Doxycycline and Keflex couldn't touch it. I consider Levaquin the gold standard for a UTI. Unfortunately, this time I had a kidney infection as well, so I was really miserable. However, if you take Levaquin for several weeks, you can have tendon and muscle problems. But my gosh, you have to get rid of the infection or you'll die. So I recommend this over Cipro. Cipro sometimes has to be taken again. I always recommend Levaquin to people."

For Streptococcal Infection "Had an on-again, off-again strep virus for the last year. 24 hours later after taking Levaquin, and I can tell a difference. Obviously a powerful medicine. If you are an experienced sinus/throat person and you've tried all of the over-the-counter medicine, alternatives, and weaker antibiotic versions, give this one a try. There are risks to taking this medicine. If you are not too sensitive, do it! This seems to be the only one with any effect that I tried."

For Sinusitis "After being sick for three months and experiencing everything from lung atelectasis to confusion, bleeding nose, and extreme headaches, my doctor put me on Levaquin. It is midday on day three of taking 500 mg once a day. I feel a little lightheaded, and my hands are shaky, but I am starting to feel a bit better. Shaky hands and lightheadedness are nothing compared to pleurisy, collapsed lung, and bleeding infected sinuses. Recommended."

For Bacterial Infection "Levaquin knocked my bacterial or sinus infection out in 20 days. I was having headaches every morning for months and not sleeping well. This really stopped my infection. I could tell that the infection was busting up because my headaches stopped and my sleep improved significantly. The headaches were like something squeezing on my brain that would not allow me to think well most of the day. I was not sleeping well at night and tired most of the day. This made all the difference and has put me back to normal. There is a tremendous difference in my daily work, alert, awake, and sleeping performance after the treatment cleared up my infection."

For Pneumonia "I had a high fever and was treated with Augmentin for a sinus infection but it turned into pneumonia. I was given Levaquin for 14 days 500 mg. It helped the pneumonia but it is hard on your stomach and I have now developed plantar fascitis."

For Bronchitis "I've been taking Levofloxacin for bronchitis (5 days, 750 mg), and I think it's helped a little bit, but it's day five (last dose tonight), and I still feel only a little better than I did before I started. Maybe it's a virus or something, so it isn't responding? Oh well. The biggest problem I've had is the side effects: not as bad as what most people have been talking about (knock on wood), but I have experienced severe, severe nausea and also insomnia. I take it at around 6 p.m., and the nausea usually goes away by the next afternoon. I started taking it with food and also drinking a probiotic, and it seems to be helping a little, though I still feel a bit sick. The insomnia is pretty bad!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Took one 250 mg tab of levofloxacin at 6 p.m. yesterday and am still experiencing side effects 18 hours later. My symptoms are reduced but are replaced with a 6 out of 10 on the pain scale-stomach ache. I have nausea, heart palpitations, dizziness, headache, and joint aches. I've called my doc back today to see about getting an alternative med. I will not take another dose of this medication."

For Pneumonia "I had mild to severe coughing for several months, tried several other antibiotics, and nothing worked until Levaquin. I almost gave up. Two weeks ago, went into the emergency room in Las Vegas with increased breathing and coughing problems. Blood tests, lung x-rays, CAT scan, oxygen, etc., etc. Two to three days after taking some prednisone and a 10-day prescription for Levaquin, all seems to have completely cleared up!!!"

For Pneumonia "Have been on 500mg Levoquin for nine days of a 10 day dosage after being diagnosed with left lower lobe pneumonia. It came with three warnings: prolonged sunlight avoidance, no taking of med within 2 hrs of taking antacid, and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER WHILE TAKING THIS MED. Was also told by dr. to take a probiotic with med to prevent constipation. I complied with all , especially the water, drank about 64 ozs + daily. I only had one side effect and it was on first day, little jittery but it subsided after one day. I have an appointment with doctor in five days, feel SOOOO much better. Hoping x-ray will show clear of pneumonia."

For Pneumonia "Age 63. I developed pneumonia from a respiratory infection passed on from my wife, the school teacher. Once a day, Levaquin knocked out the pneumonia in 5 days, and an X-ray on day 7 showed my lungs were clear. On day 9, I developed tendonitis in my shoulder replacement that had been in place for 3 years. I was prescribed a high-power NSAID by the orthopedic surgeon. After 3 weeks, I turned out fine."

For Sinusitis "I am immunodeficient and need antibiotics often. My doctors try to stay with the older generations of antibiotics for a lot of things, plus I'm allergic to a lot of them now; and Levaquin is prescribed for when I am having acute issues like sinus infection, and it does work very well. I have never had any of the bad side effects from it other than feeling a bit out of sorts, maybe an upset stomach, but I'm also sick while taking it, so I would feel 'off' regardless. Unfortunately (because it's a fairly expensive antibiotic), it has, over the last years, worked quite well, even with me."

For Pneumonia "The doc prescribed Levaquin for pneumonia. After the sixth pill I was no better but a lot worse. Had him run a lipid profile and my lipids were off the charts! The doc was scared, me too. Put me in a Z Pack and all was well in a couple of days."

For Sinusitis "Well, it did the job, and then some. It cleared up my sinus infection, plus I had the lovely experience of having severe acne on my back from the drug. I never break out. Then, a week after I stopped the 10-day medication, I have a UTI and vaginal bleeding (in between periods). I think it is insane that medication for a simple sinus infection can lead to several other complications."

For Sinusitis "Saw a PA for a sinus infection secondary to bronchitis and acute asthma. Prescribed Levaquin daily for 10 days. After the 2nd day on it, I noticed severe right shoulder pain and mild left shoulder pain. I did not make the connection until day 7. I called my pharmacist and was told to stop taking the medication. That was 6 days ago. I now also have pain in my right bicep. I had just finished a course of steroids for my asthma, which may have made me at increased risk for this side effect. Good news is my sinus infection is gone. The public needs more info on the side effects of medication."

For Bronchitis "I have been on this antibiotic for 6 days for pneumonia, and while the cough has slowed way down, I am having severe chest pain. I am thinking it's because when I do have a coughing fit, it's violent, brutal. I only have one more dose at 500 mg, and I am worried I'm relapsing, though no high temp. I feel almost like I started out. I am now trying herbal teas, garlic, rosemary, and kombucha. I just started these, so I'm praying it will all work as a team. No side effects, only a little queasy!"

For Sinusitis "I rarely get a sinus infection. If I take Levaquin for 10 days, I am well. Most Dr.'s will not prescribe it. They give you weak antibiotics, that don't touch a sinus infection. My physician knows me well. I have never had a problem with it. Drink plenty of water and juice."

For Sinusitis "I have been so blessed to start using Levaquin. I have been sick for 1 month so far. I thought it was a cold, but I couldn't recover. After 2 weeks, I took a Z-Pak for 5 days, and my symptoms got better, and then it came back. So, after 4 weeks of sickness, I started the Levaquin, and after the first dose, my ear infection that I also had at the same time was healing quickly. The second dose had me feeling so much better that I believe this sinus infection will be gone soon. Yeah!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "My infections have not been simple cases of uncomplicated UTI, they progressed rapidly into Pyelonephritis. Levaquin should not be the 1st med prescribed for various UNcomplicated infections (think "Resistance") nor should providers refuse to prescribe it. I understand the FDA black box warning, I accept that risk. Problem is, we can literally "google" any drug and find every possible side effect to convince ourselves that the medication is to blame. Yes, Levaquin can be riskier (elderly, drug interactions, etc.) I've fortunately only had diarrhea (most antibiotics cause this-Google that) as a side effect. My doctor recommended taking probiotics along with an antibiotic, and it helps. Google that, too. Levaquin isn't evil."

For Sinusitis "I've been taking Levaquin for a sinus infection. I am on only my second dose, but yesterday after taking my first dose, I felt immediate results. Much less nasal discharge than in the days and even hours prior. I had no problems with sleep, in fact, that night was the first time I slept through the entire night in weeks, without even waking up to go to the bathroom."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed Levaquin 500 mg 1x/day for chronic sinus infections. On day 8 (of a 10-day prescription), I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. Every tendon in my body hurt. Even the tiny ones in my fingers. It took me until the next day to realize it was the Levaquin causing this (no doctor or pharmacist had warned me). I threw out the day 10 pill. This was 3 months ago. For the first two weeks, the pain got worse. I was unable to walk for a week. After that, it gradually began to subside, and I began to be able to walk, albeit very slowly, again. I spent about a month on bed rest. I just saw an ortho yesterday, and she is optimistic about my progress. She said it may take about 1 year for me to heal. I am about 85% better."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 500mg Levaquin to be taken for 7 days for a UTI I developed while on a cruise. I was given this drug because I’m allergic to PCN and Cephalosporins. I read all the bad reviews but the discomfort from my UTI made me desperate for relief. About 6 hours after taking this drug I had severe pain in my lower legs. I contacted my physician at home and was told to discontinue the antibiotic immediately, that I was at serious risk of rupturing my Achilles’ tendon. I only took one pill. Unfortunately, I was on a European vacation that required a lot of walking. I am 27 years old and felt like I was 80, I could barely get around. Completely ruined my vacation. I was terrified I had permanently damaged my muscles or could injure myself and deal with a lifetime of pain. Luckily, the muscle pain went away after 4-5 days. It did take out my UTI, but I would NEVER take this again knowing the risks and side effects. There’s a reason it has a black box warning."
