For Pneumonia "I was given this horrific medication as my provider thought I had pneumonia, and after taking it for 8 days, I could hardly walk, and my knees were stiff, and I could not get up or put any weight on my legs. My hands were swollen, and I could not make a fist or open my water bottle. This drug should be taken off the market immediately! How can a physician in good conscience prescribe this medication to anyone? I just hope that I am not permanently crippled by this medication. My chest X-ray came back negative, so I did not even need an antibiotic and just needed a cough medicine and Mucinex to clear up my cough. The one time I did not have time to read the drug information because I was moving, and my doctor decides to prescribe me this!"

For Bronchitis "Was given this drug following severe bronchitis due to chronic dental inflammations. By day 3, I realized my left ankle was painful and hobbled. I read the black box warnings and immediately discontinued the drug, however, that ankle and then the other one got progressively worse. I was barely making it to work and back, trying to do eldercare solo and thinking I was going to be crippled for life 6 months later. Was seriously looking into joining a class action lawsuit and probably should have, but no energy left over. Think megadoses of magnesium and supplements plus some homeopathics like Thuja finally tipped the balance, and I gradually was able to walk normally without pain again. Used Oil of Oregano to clear the infections."

For Pneumonia "Took Cipro for a Pseudomonas infection and then five months later took Levaquin. Joint and tendon pain just kept getting worse, and I'm still suffering from these side effects two months after discontinuing."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I react to every antibiotic out there. Levaquin is the only one I can take with no side effects. This is an excellent drug and gets rid of my urinary tract infections fast, with no yeast infection after it."

For Streptococcal Infection "Not allergic to anything. On Day 15 round of antibiotics in February, so needed something stronger to wipe out this diphtheria and strep throat. Could barely swallow yesterday. Took a pill yesterday, went to bed, woke up with a headache that was manageable, along with some dizziness that is getting better. A little bit of pain in joints and some very soft stool this morning, but I was thankful for that. I already can swallow today without much pain and feel about 20% better, so it must be working at a fast rate. I am thankful. Only taking it for 7 days, 500 mg."

For Bronchitis "I was prescribed 500 mg for 5 days for bronchitis, I also suffer from COPD. I couldn't sleep a bit, breathing got a lot worse, headache, palpitations, tendons hurt so bad I couldn't hardly move. I have been off of them for 6 days now, I'm worse than I was. I will never take these again, they are horrible."

For Bronchitis "I am finishing my last pill. I had seven 500 mg pills, and obviously, this is number 7. I have bronchitis, but since I tend to get that, it easily accelerates into pneumonia. I can't take anything besides Levaquin either. I am so sensitive to meds. Well, my advice is STAY IN BED and drink TONS and tons of water. Don't let the side effects (my tendons started acting up, and DO put your feet up on a pillow for that...) worry you unless you have a particularly extreme reaction. Just 'go with the flow.' It makes me sleep = no insomnia! Get out the old movies, the western novels, and keep the lights LOW in your QUIET room. It's worth it. This drug has saved my life."

For Pneumonia "I was prescribed Levaquin for pneumonia. After two days, I felt so much better. I had some lower back pain, which I expected, as I know medications well. I am a practicing RN for 23 years. My appetite was poor but has improved. I had some mouth pain with probable thrush related to the antibiotic. 750 mg x 5 days was worth it!!"

For Bacterial Infection "I have used, even requested it for UTI and upper respiratory infections. It has been my go-to drug from my ENT doctor, prescribed it before there was a generic. I have never suffered any side effects and have always gotten well. I use it once a year, my usual yearly infection."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Took Cipro and Bactrim during chemo and radiation. Did not work, may have been because of the chemo and radiation, just not sure. I am now on my 3rd of 5-day Levaquin dose and passed my AZO UTI over-the-counter test this morning, yeah. Two months of a UTI is a bit much, although I now know what works for the future."

For Prostatitis "I have just started Levofloxacin for prostatitis that I've been battling for 4 months. I've tried Doxy and Cipro with no luck. I'm day two into Levofloxacin, and I'm experiencing pretty bad anxiety. Has anybody else experienced anxiety on this medication? Should I stop taking it or try to push through it? Thank you."

For Bronchitis "I am 54 years old and was put on Levaquin in August. I had side effects from the medication that caused joint and tendon pain and damage. I used to take it when I was younger with a good outcome. It is now January, and I still have very bad knee and tendon pain. Beware of the medication."

For Bacterial Infection "I have been suffering with a sinus infection for over 2 months. I was on Bactrim for 14 days, prednisone for 10 days, which is a steroid, used OTC allergy medicine, then finally was given this med. After only one dose, my sinus, ear pain, and sore throat caused by post-nasal drip began to disappear. I did experience some coughing the first time I laid down, but guess what? The mucus was no longer greenish-yellow draining, it was super dark green. That was one serious infection! Tried and true, believe me, it worked for me. I had laryngitis for 2 months, and two days after this medication, my voice is back :) Two thumbs up."

For Bacterial Infection "Took 500 mgs once a day for a severe sinus infection. By day 3, my nasal passages opened up, sinus pressure and pain eased up. On day 5, I felt 90% better. Infection gone by day 8. Only side effect was I slept a lot, but that could be because I was sick."

For Sinusitis "Was prescribed Levaquin 750 mg/5-day dose on June 22, 2009. First week, no bad symptoms except for insomnia and nightmares. It did knock out the sinus infection temporarily (10 days), but then sinusitis returned. It wasn't until week 3 after using this drug that I started noticing joint pain in elbows, knees, shoulders, and lower back. It's November now, and things haven't improved. Along with tendinitis symptoms, I've also lost muscle strength in calves, biceps, and will experience burning in hamstrings after doing simple things like cutting my lawn. I hope this goes away or somebody offers a remedy to counter these effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "A few hours after the first dose, my arm muscles started burning like I just lifted a bunch of weights, and my neck was hurting on one side, but I think it was because I was so tense and worried about taking it. These symptoms lasted for about two or three more doses, then went away. Took my last pill today, and the only other side effects I had were headache and lightheadedness, and my heart would beat faster every now and then."

For Kidney Infections "I have taken Levaquin on various occasions for UTI. I never really had side effects after only a week of it. The improvement in the infection was pretty rapid and remarkable. In 2 days, I felt better than I had in 3 months, so I was suffering from this UTI off and on for a while. Doxycycline and Keflex couldn't touch it. I consider Levaquin the gold standard for a UTI. Unfortunately, this time I had a kidney infection as well, so I was really miserable. However, if you take Levaquin for several weeks, you can have tendon and muscle problems. But my gosh, you have to get rid of the infection or you'll die. So I recommend this over Cipro. Cipro sometimes has to be taken again. I always recommend Levaquin to people."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 500 mg x 1/day for 7 days for a throat infection yesterday. Two hours after taking Levaquin, I went to bed, and immediately upon lying down, the ends of all my toes went numb. An hour later, I had an extremely rapid heartbeat and sweating, and couldn't sleep. Today, my throat and the rest of my body are significantly better, but my toes are still half numb. It's the weekend, so I called the pharmacist, she advised me to stop taking the medicine and go to my doctor on Monday."

For Pneumonia "Have been on 500 mg Levaquin for nine days of a 10-day dosage after being diagnosed with left lower lobe pneumonia. It came with three warnings: prolonged sunlight avoidance, no taking of med within 2 hrs of taking antacid, and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER WHILE TAKING THIS MED. Was also told by Dr. to take a probiotic with med to prevent constipation. I complied with all, especially the water, drank about 64 oz + daily. I only had one side effect and it was on the first day, a little jittery, but it subsided after one day. I have an appointment with the doctor in five days, feel SOOOO much better. Hoping the x-ray will show clear of pneumonia."

For Sinusitis "I cannot give Levaquin a good rating. I was a healthy, active college student minoring in dance when I took this for a sinus infection. After a few pills, it completely destroyed my life, for an infection that would have cleared on its own. No more than an hour of sleep for over a year due to neurological damage that destroyed my sleep cycle. It gave me dysautonomia, so now I have tachycardia, POTS, heat intolerance, and all sorts of crazy problems. I got peripheral neuropathy, but it got better over the years. Still, I am limited in what I can do, cannot fulfill my dreams, and miss going out in the summer since the heat intolerance causes me to not sweat but actually respond like I have heat exhaustion. No more laying on the beach in July...ever."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 500 mg Levaquin to be taken for 7 days for a UTI I developed while on a cruise. I was given this drug because I’m allergic to PCN and cephalosporins. I read all the bad reviews, but the discomfort from my UTI made me desperate for relief. About 6 hours after taking this drug, I had severe pain in my lower legs. I contacted my physician at home and was told to discontinue the antibiotic immediately, that I was at serious risk of rupturing my Achilles tendon. I only took one pill. Unfortunately, I was on a European vacation that required a lot of walking. I am 27 years old and felt like I was 80, I could barely get around. Completely ruined my vacation. I was terrified I had permanently damaged my muscles or could injure myself and deal with a lifetime of pain. Luckily, the muscle pain went away after 4-5 days. It did take out my UTI, but I would NEVER take this again knowing the risks and side effects. There’s a reason it has a black box warning."

For Bacterial Infection "Levaquin knocked my bacterial or sinus infection out in 20 days. I was having headaches every morning for months and not sleeping well. This really stopped my infection. I could tell that the infection was busting up because my headaches stopped and my sleep improved significantly. The headaches were like something squeezing on my brain that would not allow me to think well most of the day. I was not sleeping well at night and tired most of the day. This made all the difference and has put me back to normal. There is a tremendous difference in my daily work, alert, awake, and sleeping performance after the treatment cleared up my infection."

For Pneumonia "I had mild to severe coughing for several months, tried several other antibiotics, and nothing worked until Levaquin. I almost gave up. Two weeks ago, went into the emergency room in Las Vegas with increased breathing and coughing problems. Blood tests, lung x-rays, CAT scan, oxygen, etc., etc. Two to three days after taking some prednisone and a 10-day prescription for Levaquin, all seems to have completely cleared up!!!"

For Sinusitis "I am immunodeficient and need antibiotics often. My doctors try to stay with the older generations of antibiotics for a lot of things, plus I'm allergic to a lot of them now; and Levaquin is prescribed for when I am having acute issues like sinus infection, and it does work very well. I have never had any of the bad side effects from it other than feeling a bit out of sorts, maybe an upset stomach, but I'm also sick while taking it, so I would feel 'off' regardless. Unfortunately (because it's a fairly expensive antibiotic), it has, over the last years, worked quite well, even with me."
