"Earlier this week, I was prescribed levofloxacin for a sinus infection. I took one dose. I strength train and diet year-round. I haven't felt like working out since I took it Monday. Very fatigued and weak. Last night, I became extremely sensitive to cold. My hands became incredibly numb and cold, and there was no blood in my fingers for the first couple of inches. There's a poisonous taste in my mouth that won't go away, and I have a rash on my back and my chest. My Achilles tendons are so tight I'm afraid I'll rupture them."

"I have just taken my 2nd dose, see no difference yet, but slept better last night! I have been on three different antibiotics in the last 3 months, and none of them worked for my sinuses, but I hope this one does!"

"Levaquin is the ONLY antibiotic that gets rid of my 4x/year sinus infections. I switched doctors in November and came down with an infection just after making my first appointment. I agreed to try a different antibiotic—Cefuroxime—because I HAVE experienced tendon injury after taking Levaquin (I was sprinting a couple of months later and not aware of the warnings). I “sort of” got over the November sinusitis and then came down with another in January. I honestly don't think the first one ever went away, leading to the second flare-up. I again agreed to try a different antibiotic, Doxycycline (I’m still babying those tendons from 3 years ago, so why not avoid the Levaquin, right?). Was on the Doxy for 10 days, and now, three days after finishing, I am no better. I’m calling my doc’s office and insisting on the Levaquin tomorrow. I just won’t be doing sprints."

"Took one day and felt so sick, so I pulled up information. This medicine has been given a black box warning by the FDA! I immediately stopped using and am requesting something else. There are other options, so this drug is not worth it."

"Seemed to clear up sinus infection, but side effects were scary. Had anxiety and felt very cold. Then the shaking started, mainly leg muscles. Was resolved after about an hour by taking Ativan. Blood pressure was very high the next few days - can't say for sure if that was related. Also had nosebleeds."

"41/F. I had a serious sinus infection for over a year after having Covid. I took so many antibiotics that didn’t help at all: Augmentin, doxycycline, amoxicillin, and a few others. Then they took several cultures that showed the bacteria Citrobacter k. present, which is resistant to most antibiotics. I was put on Cipro for 20 days, then again for 14 days. Didn’t help much. The only other option for oral/non-IV antibiotics for this bacteria was Levaquin. I’m on Day 5 of 14 and already seeing a huge improvement, unlike any other antibiotic used. I’m hopeful it will eventually go away completely. I haven’t noticed any side effects. I have a physical job, and I’m physically active, and I haven’t noticed any issues with tendons, etc. When I asked about the side effects some people get, namely the issues with tendons and joints, my physician said that is more likely if you’re overweight or over 60."

"I took Levaquin for a sinus infection. It cleared the infection but had terrible side effects. My heart was racing, pulse was like I had run a marathon. It shot my potassium levels off the charts (had to take medication to flush my system of that)."

"I used this medicine for over 20 years for chronic sinusitis. The recent 3 times I have taken it, I broke out in hives all over my body that lasted for 2 hours. Has anyone else had a similar reaction? Not sure how, after all these years, I have an allergic reaction to something. The doctor gave me Sulfamethoxazole-TMP in lieu of Levaquin, and I am scared out of my mind to take something new. I have an 11-year history of random allergies to food and medications."

"I only took ONE Levaquin, and within a 6-hour period, my back 'popped' and felt as though it was going out. I'd say the warning about this medicine causing tendon/muscle weakness is highly accurate! My doctor agreed and changed my meds immediately...nothing like taking a $100 pill."

"I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. I have a lot of sinus infections. I have been on quite a few antibiotics. I had an allergic reaction from Amoxicillin earlier this year. Hives and sores all over for 1 month. I am on day 4 of Levaquin, and yesterday I had mild chest pains, which went away after I took a dose. Maybe it was from the sinus infection. Have been sleeping okay, though. Today my thigh bone has started hurting. Never has before. Will see what tomorrow brings."

"This is my 4th antibiotic for a sinus infection. On day 5 and not feeling any different. Just wanted to give my experience... I ate yogurt in the morning and afternoon and took a probiotic. I had none of the side effects but slight joint pain. Keep in mind everyone is different. Drink plenty of water. Blood test done yesterday and it shows I have an infection, but no antibiotic touching it. This has been going on for 2 months. Have a CT scan on Monday."

"Trying out this medication for a severe ear infection. 10 days of Amoxicillin did not work, so the doctor told me to take this. The side effects sound scary, but the long-term result of no ear infection should outweigh the other stuff. I will try and report my findings after the 10-day run."

"Never, ever take this drug or those part of the fluoroquinolone family (Cipro, etc.). I didn't realize that this was a blacklisted drug; it should be illegal to prescribe such a thing, and the doctor who prescribed this to me failed to tell me about the side effects. When I asked her what the side effects were, she said 'lightheadedness.' Thankfully, I only took about 750 mg in total and am going to do whatever I can to expel this poison from my body. Warn everyone you know to NEVER take this drug."

"I started taking Levaquin about 12 hours ago. My muscles are very weak, I'm dizzy, restless, didn't sleep last night, and having a very hard time focusing. I'm sure this is a great drug if you need to go to these extremes, but it's a little much for me. I'm calling the doctor to get off of it this morning."

"Great for the sinus infection. Feeling much better after a couple of days. However, on day 5, much tendon tenderness and tightness during exercise. I read about the side effects, and this is one listed. It is worth it to get rid of the sinus infection."

"Well, prescribed this medicine because I had an earache due to sinus buildup. Once I started taking the medication, everything was fine, but a few days later, I developed hives and ringing of the ears for some reason. I am allergic to penicillin, but I have never had an antibiotic do this to me."

"My doctor put me on Levaquin to help my sinusitis and also a tummy issue I've been having. So far, so good. I feel better already with increased energy, but I'm not sleeping. I have dry mouth, but solved that by keeping a bottle of water by the bed. Just took a sip every time I woke up (which was like every 1/2 hour)."

"I have been taking Levaquin now for 4 days and feeling great. I have been suffering with a severe sinus infection. For the first 4 days, the doctor put me on 2000 mg/day of amoxicillin, but I continued to be sick. After the 2nd dose of Levaquin, I began my recovery. I had difficulty waking up during the night due to head pain prior to taking the Levaquin, but have experienced some insomnia and vivid dreams while cat-napping. Just about passed out at the cost of the 10-day prescription, but weighing the relief makes it worth it."

"Had a severe sinus infection caused by allergy and polyps. Treated the infection with Zithromax and would get relief as long as treatment lasted. Within days, symptoms would start to return. First Zithromax treatment was for 5 days, then twice in 14 days. Went to a specialist, and he recommended surgery for the polyps and prescribed Levaquin for the infection. Felt relief within days, and weeks later, no recurrence of the infection. Will still need the surgery. I've had it twice before. The recovery time from surgery is about 3-4 weeks and very miserable, but worth the agony for the relief it brings. Due to the side effects, etc., be sure it's an infection and not just a virus prior to starting antibiotic treatment."

"Prescribed this for sinus and double ear infection, which was not cleared by a 3-day course of Zithromax 500 mg. After 2 doses of one pill per day, I had severe stomach pains and was told by the doctor to discontinue use."

"Was just given Levaquin for sinus issues, but after reading all the reviews, I am pretty scared to actually take it. I'm only allergic to sulfa medicines, but I had psoriasis as it is, so don't need excess drying or itching!"

"I've taken four doses for a sinus infection. So far, no real improvement, but I'm not worse either. I'll wait a few more days before calling the doc. Hope it works for me as it did for all of you. I was itchy the first night, but that went away."

"So many complaints about this I find comical. I just used this medication for a sinus infection last week. Used it numerous times before. I still work out on it, no issues. You people crying that now you have tendon pain years later have got it bad. Went snowboarding yesterday with kids on my last dose. Must have been a miracle because even though, yeah, I had diarrhea and didn’t have as much energy, I still had a great time. Going to CrossFit after this response. To sum it up, I never had issues with this medication. People’s posts are 100% different from my experience."
