For Diabetes, Type 1 "My daughter came home from the hospital after being diagnosed with diabetes 1, using Lantus. Our insurance won't cover it and she was switched to Basaglar. We have used 5 pens and each night she is in tears because the dose knob is so hard to push. We are fighting with the insurance to get Lantus, we never had a problem with the pens. I could understand 1 pen being defective, but not 5 from different boxes. Basaglar pens are not made well."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "As with many others, experiencing headaches, anxiety, dizziness, feeling in mental limbo, tired, though some symptoms clear by afternoon or late day. My problem is that the Endocrinologist I was seeing just since February quit at the same time he put me on Basaglar because Lantus was making me itch all over. I had side effects from all meds so my family dr. sent me to him. Hope to see a regular dr. soon who also has diabetes. Maybe she can help? Only good note is that my points are down. Scary that someone checked the "tube" on 4 or 5 and nothing came out. Sad to be a guinea pig or test subject. I'm older and only diagnosed in the last 4 years. Very disheartening to have this malady"

For Diabetes, Type 2 "My quack of a doctor laughed at me and said I was being ridiculous. Lantus and Basaglar are the same thing made by different companies. I was so angry because Basaglar does not work I have to take about twice the dosage to get my sugar to budge and it does not stay in my system long at all. I could miss a dose of Lantus and still have a normal blood sugar. They want to push this cheap alternative to please the Insurance Companies."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "..replying to already in use. I used up the last of my lantus amd my blood sugar levels were in my drs range. I took my 1st injection of basaglar and ate normally, next morning my BSL were over 300 and I was was like what! I took my humalog and tested every 2/3 hrs..my BSL went down and took my basaglar again and ate normally like I would, no big meals..BSL went down after taking more humalog and the next morning again my BSL were around 300. Again tested every 2/3 hrs and went after 3 days I called my Dr with my BSL now waiting to hear back. I tried to figure out if my meter or my insulin was bad. I've had bad vials of insulin, so when the pharmacist says you cant get bad vials they're so wrong. Now I'm having same problems with my new insulin. I'm hoping they call tomorrow and either get me back on lantus or up basaglar. I got new pens so Im gonna try them tomorrow. I think basaglar just isn't working for me. I'm thinking basaglar isn't for TID..anyone else having the same problems?"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I've been type 1 diabetic for over 50 years. I've seen lots of changes, most of them an improvement. However, Basaglar is NOT an improvement over Lantus for me. It is supposed to be Bio "Similar" (whatever that means) but my experience has not been a good one. Basaglar is unpredictable and has caused me much stress and anxiety because my blood sugar is all over the place and my insurance company has given me no choice. My last Hemoglobin A1c was 7.2 on Lantus. I'm going for blood work today. We'll see. A1c may be decent but my quality of life is not. Constant hypo glycemia at night and adjusting dosage ends up with high BS. I feel terrible!"

For Diabetes, Type 2 "The drug is great but the pen gage locks at a number and it’s difficult to load it , I would prefer it sold in vials where I can draw out the dosage with a needle, they only make these in pens, a bit too steep for a beginner"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My experience with basaglar will effect me for the rest of my life, and not in a good way. Of course I doubt there is a Dr that will say results are due to this horrible "biosimilar" creation, but I developed heart failure from basaglar. All started when I went to see a doctor in an area I had just moved to. Without any discussion, or notification, they put me on Basaglar, no change in the number of units that I needed to take. I was on it for a month before I started to feel my worst. Then I looked closer at the medication and realized it was not Lantus which I had been taking for years. I gained 40 pounds. I could not sleep in my bed anymore because I couldn't breathe. My feet were swollen drastically. I could not make it up 13 steps without having to stop multiple times because I could not breathe. I was a very active person before all of this. After multiple trips to the Dr, and a change in Drs they found that my ejection fraction was 15%, Normal is 55-75%"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for many years. Have used different insulins I was forced to start taking basaglar when my insurance would no longer pay. I had never experienced the side effects that this insulin causes. It causes depression and anxiety. Also takes forever to work. I have to take twice as much and blood sugars are still twice as high . Please take this off the market. The diabetes is enough we shouldn't have to have meds for it that don't help. Instead make matters worse!!! Oh and also pins malfunction all the time!!!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My insurance made me switch from Lantus to Basaglar just because Basaglar was a measly 15% cheaper. It did not work for me AT ALL. I don't understand how this drug was ever approved for Type 1 Diabetes. My blood sugar readings went from being predictable into a complete tailspin. I tried to control it with my fast-acting insulin (Novolog) and not even that worked! Complete nightmare. I contacted my doctor's office with blood sugar readings and they put in an emergency authorization request for my Lantus. The only reason I didn't have to go to the hospital or end up in DKA was Lantus. Bottom line: if you are a type 1, try it at your own risk and make sure you still have some of your old long-acting insulin for backup just in case."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have been using Basaglar Quikpen for a couple of years or more. Works the way it is supposed to work until three weeks ago. Control number D113708A, EXP DATE 06 2021, serial no. 051600492428 - as soon as I started using this box my counts went sky high. Stayed this way through 2.5 pens. Switched to another box I had on hand and my counts immediately went back down to my normal range. Seems to me Control number D113708A, EXP DATE 06 2021, serial no. 051600492428 is possibly defective - and the company should replace that box - I still have the 2.5 remaining pens from the box."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have been taking Basaglar for about 1 year now. I have had at least 4 bad pens with the effects others have been describing. Had decent control before moving to Basaglar, then once I switched to another box of pens, sugars went crazy. First one was June 2020 which was accompanied with lower extremity swelling. Had another pen with potency effects in Aug and now I have another. I also had one pen that would not dial at all and was told I had to contact the company. These are not cheap pens by the way! My retail price on a 3 month supply is over $400! Thank goodness my insurance is covering it, but I'm really concerned. I don't feel comfortable taking an unreliable medication that can possibly result in serious complications later! Number on the most recent pen is D170767A with exp of 10/2021"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I used to have excellent control while taking Lantus. Then like most Diabetics have said, insurance switched me. I’ve been taking Basaglar for about 5 years and every day, I have to constantly try to bring down my numbers. I should have stopped taking it many years ago since my energy level suffers. I wish we could all sue Basaglar for not working and stop insurance from ruining our health. Basaglar seems to be like sterile water! I have an appt. in 4 days and I plan on getting back on Lantus so I can finally feel alive again."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Since starting basalglar I have had so many medical issues. Back pain and joint pain has made it difficult to walk and now have pain meds that I never , ever had to take. The fatigue is so overwhelming that I can't function. I am sleeping 20 out of 24 hours. I try to force myself up but within an hour, I feel like I am on anesthesia and cannot fight against the need to sleep. My blood sugars have no rhyme or reason. I eat the same things every day at the same time and I can wake up with a blood sugar of 80 to one of over 300. Two hours after eating, I felt really nauseas and just strange. I tested my blood sugar and it was 42. Drank some orange juice to bring it up to 80. Didn't eat the rest of the day and I tested my blood sugar before bed and I was at 268. I have three meters, so I know it is a true reading. I have spans of two to four days of flu like symptoms with extreme nausea three or four times a month. No one else in the house gets sick."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My insurance switched me to this insulin and ever since I've been taking it, I have extreme low blood sugars in the middle of the night and one night it got down to 15 and my mom called 911 and other times dropped to 40 and I've never had hypoglycemia to this degree as I've had since taking this medication. I'm severely depressed and have anxiety which I've never had before. I also feel sluggish and tired all the time and no energy to do anything. This is garbage insulin and I need to go back to Lantus which has been working for me for the past 17 years. I'm very frustrated and feel so defeated by all of this! Take this off the market!!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Started using Basaglar and have crashed 2 times, 1 day after using it. Had to call 911 as it made my blood sugar drop from 169 to 40 in 1/2 hour. Never had that happen before with Lantus and never had to call 911 for low blood sugar. Will just be taking novolog unless my insurance agrees to let me use Lantus."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Out of the last 3 boxes of Basaglar kwikpen with 15 pens total, SEVEN of the pens have JAMMED. They are defective. Some of them worked for several doses, some of them did not work at all, ever. It is not a problem with needles I change the needle each time and sometimes a whole pen will work and as you see, HALF of them are defective. AT this time I have no more and my prescription cannot be renewed until next week. Will call Dr and beg I guess to get some more insulin. I never had this problem with Lantus in the past."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My insurance made me switch from Lantus. I am still trying to gauge how closely 1 unit of basaglar = 1 unit of Lantus, but I have other issues with the pen. For one thing the numbers are really hard to read. Lantus numbers were very dark and easy to see. I also don't like the silence with injection. It clicked on Lantus and I could hear it was going in. The worst thing is that with the start of every new pen it hiccups and then engages so I don't get a full dose. I will start pushing out some of the insulin first and then start over from now on."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I had always used Lantus for my Type II Diabetes for several years. My new ins company's formulary doesn't cover it. I contacted Sanofi to get a $99 Rx Savings Card, which I used for 2 refills w/out problems. This month my Rx request for Lantus was switched over to Basaglar, which is UNACCEPTABLE and unauthorised. I tried this and it didn't work for me. I can't deal w/the side effects. I find it annoying and unconscionable that insurance companies have the audacity to switch patient meds w/out first consulting a patient's physician to make sure that patients won't experience adverse reactions to a change in med. There shouldn't be able to be doing this. "First Do No Harm" should be their primary focus not their own selfish bottom line. . The FDA DOESN'T consider nor did it approve Basaglar as a biosimilar 2 Lantus cuz Lantus wasn't approved under the Public Health Service Act, so there is no “reference product” for a proposed biosimilar product."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "My doctor placed me on this medication three months ago and I immediately began noticing that I was having trouble staying asleep at night and waking with a dull headache every morning. I also noticed occasional and always unexplainable perspiration on my face and scalp. After about a month of use, lower leg swelling and shortness of breath was added to my symptoms. Upon calling my doctor, I was advised to "stick with the Basaglar" and that it would "get better." And so, I tried. Then I began noticing my weight rapidly increasing and rushed to see my doctor in person. He wasn't there, but his PA immediately said that Basaglar is the culprit for all my ills, including the weight gain, and took me off this terrible med. We are now searching for something that will work in its place. The loss of quality of life just wasn't worth the small amount this medication lowered my A1C."

I increased the dosage from 30 units of Lantus to 40 units of Basalgar, and now my BS is where it should be. I have no idea why my insurance company switched me--maybe some insurance clerks found a way to save some money!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been diabetic for 24 years and have used Lantus for about 20 years until my insurance said this winter that it would not cover it. I was changed to Basaglar and told that it was “basically the same”, but it’s not!!! In 8 months my A1C has jumped to a 10% from a 7-8%. My blood sugar drops really low in the morning without real explanation and then it creeps up to ridiculously high levels no matter what I eat. I am very low carb and I exercise, but nothing helps. I am also unable to lose weight and I feel terrible. This medication is a disgrace!! If you can even call it that. I am glad to see that I’m not alone in having these issues."
